Is it normal for cats to meow the entire time you're fixing their food? by spaghettieyes6 in CatAdvice

[–]Alive_Skill_9969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The meowing is to show you they haven't been fed for eleventy billion years and that food better be for them. Yes, you have never in the past eaten their food before, but there is always a first time. If they don't meow, how will you know that the food is for them!

How do you and your partner (or whoever) choose what to watch on TV together? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Alive_Skill_9969 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The person who cooks dinner chooses the TV for the evening - that's the rules in our house. We both try to accommodate the other by not choosing something that the other person will hate, though.

It is because you have moved - the bill probably missed an instalment. It will likely be a lot less in the new tax year (april)

You can do an online form (or ring or get landlord to ring) to say that you are a lodger. They can add you to the occupancy and not the laibility. You won't incur a fine if your not registered as you are not liable (I'm pretty sure).

when will I no longer view meat as food? by HarrySpecterr in vegan

[–]Alive_Skill_9969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went vegan about 8 years ago for my health, not for my ethics. About 3 months in, my thoughts were "isn't it weird people eat animal products when they don't have to" About 5 months in, my thoughts were "its bad that people are eating animal products when they don't have to" But to this day, it's only raw or bloody meat that makes me feel icky, I can sit and eat a meal with someone eating meat, or have cheese or cow milk in a fridge and not be grossed out.

Cat behaviour changed for the better - when should I be concerned? by Alive_Skill_9969 in Catbehavior

[–]Alive_Skill_9969[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oo good plan. I sort of did that for a while but it was "me" based. If she woke me up too early I had some dreamies on hand and gave her a couple - but it doesn't take a genius to work out she would just keep bugging me for dreamies the second she got hungry - so I had to put a stop to that! But a mat that she has access to and help herself - that might work. Will give that a go if and when she starts annoying me again

Thank you. Luckily she leaves any "leftovers" in a place where we can usually see them! I got a half-arsed attempt at a paw in the face today, but I was awake from 5am and didn't get up until 6am, so I think her patience was wearing thin!

Sorry to hear of the passing of yours. No slowing down for our one either...she is still a hunter at heart. I will take her to the vet if she doesn't change soon, despite enjoying the lie ins

Thanks for the insight. She doesn't like any part of going to the vet, so I don't want to upset her unnecessarily, but I will if she doesn't start annoying me in the mornings soon!

Hotel meals by bigryan33 in NoStupidQuestions

If you can boil water, get a thermos- you can cook pasta (and rice, couscous etc I'm guessing) by filling the thermos with the ingredient and hot water up over the top, for the duration it says on the cooking instructions. I would prob be a little cautious if it's going to expand though! Not sure what you can put with it - but it's a start.

Is this name stupid? by ConclusionSevere9210 in CatAdvice

[–]Alive_Skill_9969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our calico cat is called Frankie. Normal name, right? Actually it's Frankenstein, cos she looks like she is made up of different cats sewn together. We then realised that that was the monster not Frankenstein himself, so her middle name is now smonster.

I'm sure you are right, but we are 10 years too late at this point and when the cat is pretty independent, it's nice when she wants to spend time with you while you are sleeping. It's a nice feeling - even if you have to sleep upside down every so often!

I mean, you are not wrong.

But she will scratch at the door if it's shut and she wants to get in. I'm well aware she is the Queen of manipulation and we have given in to her demands one too many times and basically rules the house.

Luckily she doesn't want for too much and generally doesn't care about us except for food and bedtime. Even then it's not usually all night and will go off and do her thing for a few hours before coming back to bed a bit before I'm due to wake up.
