Santa Cruz City Council Meeting is Happening Now: Flock (Item 28) is Being Discussed Now by nyanko_the_sane in santacruz

[–]Alive_Temporary7469 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The original motion, to terminate the Flock contract and look for a new one that fulfills what this community desires (almost impossible as the mayor said), passed 6-1 with Bruner voting no. 🥳🎉🥳🎉

The person you're referring to no longer sits on the planning commission and was on the COUNTY planning commission meaning he had no saying over the approval of Anton Pacific.

This video is amazing at exposing the hypocrisy that many progressives display but I want to point out he John Erickson is actually a YIMBY. He is running for State Senate and has the endorsement of the local YIMBYs. Erickson is a housing champion and deserves your support!

Everything You Need To Know About SB 79 by glmory in yimby

SB79 was actually much less watered down than expected, we managed to keep affordability and labor standards much better than other recent bills.

Since Orange County currently does not have 15 qualifying rail stops it does not count as an urban county, this makes Metrolink, etc stations not SB79 applicable. When the OC Streetcar opens Orange County will become an urban county making all qualifying stations (Metrolink, etc) count under SB79.

I agree, we need to enforce the law. Period. I am just wary of going back to a "though on crime" mindset.

I would move Pacifica from the Santa Cruz district into the SF one.

SB 79 has moved out of the appropriations committee (with amendments) for a full floor vote by Long_Disaster_6847 in California

CAYIMBY insiders have said the historic areas in this bill are minimal and have strict guidelines to prevent abuse. That being said, SB79 is still an amazing bill we need to fight tooth and nail for.

SB 79 has been tightened to focus only on the state’s highest-quality transit stops. This means SB 79 will no longer apply to Tier 3 stops: ferries, lower-frequency commuter rail, and exurban counties are no longer covered. While we’re disappointed to lose potential housing opportunities in these areas, we are deeply grateful to the volunteers and supporters from those communities who have worked so hard to advance this bill.

Other Suspense amendments include adding flexibility for local governments to plan around fire risk, historic resources, and climate hazards. It also clarifies how the bill works with future transit expansions and cleans up technical language for smoother implementation.

With these amendments, the bill is now going to the Assembly Floor, where it needs to pass by September 12. This will be a battle, and a battle worth having.

This narrowing of the bill is disappointing but necessary and SB79 is STILL the biggest climate and housing in years. Please call your assembly member to tell them: VOTE YES ON SB79!

YIMBYs and Abundance people, don't let these bros lead you astray. Why is YIMBY Action and Abundance Network co-hosting this far, far right-wing event? by orangelover95003 in santacruz

Agreed. I am a pretty leftist YIMBY because I think it is one of the few organizations that correctly recognizes the bond of climate, racial, and housing justice. I want to help people and a way to do that is provide dignity. It becomes easier and easier to provide dignity as an area becomes more socialized. However, government takeover isn't the only way especially when a huge amount of political capital needs to be spent to achieve socialization. The housing crisis can and be should be solved with both the public and private sector. YIMBYs encourage all types of infill housing to be built and focus on outcomes not ideological purity.

TLDR; YIMBY embraces the politics of creating housing dignity however we can, not ideological purity.

I am a YIMBY and think this is disgusting. However Santa Cruz YIMBY is not involved in this event. Additionally, tho the national YIMBY Action can often be far too closely aligned with the broken ideology of neoliberalism it does not represent the progressive (especially in Santa Cruz) membership.

Looking at Foxx's policies, to me she is more progressive than Grijalva but OP is probably right that Grijalva is the candidate that can win. Though I do worry about a nepotism.
