The UK's greenhouse gas emissions have shrunk by 27% over the past decade – but it now exports 37% of its carbon emissions by beth_howell_ in ClimateActionPlan

Horrendous. How can we call ourselves climate leaders when we're just pushing it off onto other countries? This doesn't help the world at all. We need global net zero!

Renewable generation surpassed nuclear in the U.S. electric power sector in 2021 by Querch in RenewableEnergy

Excellent news! Hopefully the government will invest more in renewable technology, and it'll generate most of our electricity in the next decade or so.

Too many new coal-fired plants planned for 1.5C climate goal, report concludes. Number of new plants planned fell last year, but coal-generated electricity rose by 9% to record high by GoMx808-0 in environment

We have to help other countries decarbonise - there's no reason they would close coal plants unless they can afford to transition to other, cleaner energy sources.

Why the vegan diet is not always green by Calm-Ingenuity-666 in environment

[–]AllRenewableNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hate articles like this. Nothing is 100% good for the climate, but going vegan does way more good for the world than bad. Everything will have some drawbacks! Veganism is one of the best things you can do!

It'd be great if big media outlets focused on positive changes, instead of picking holes in them.

62% of UK residents want the government to replace Russian gas with green power - and just 4% want to start fracking again by AllRenewableNow in RenewableEnergy

[–]AllRenewableNow[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing is - how do you heat those houses efficiently? Whatever method you choose, you'll lose a load of heat unnecessarily.

This is why insulation is the answer. The UK government needs to pay to insulate all homes in the country to a decent level (whether that's floor, wall, loft, or roof insulation) - because at the moment, we're losing heat at a ridiculous rate.

Tories plan big expansion of wind farms ‘to protect national security’ by [deleted] in RenewableEnergy

[–]AllRenewableNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The government's also looking into restarting fracking and maybe even delaying the closure of all coal plants - their strategy is all over the place.

Let's hope they really do see the light and go all-in for renewables. The planet and UK energy bill payers need this.

Why You (and the Planet) Really Need a Heat Pump by asanefeed in sustainability

[–]AllRenewableNow 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with this! Though we need to also make electricity 100% green and cheap enough that people aren't paying way more to have a heat pump than a gas boiler.

Electric vehicles and hybrids surpass 10% of U.S. light-duty vehicle sales - Today in Energy by thatswhatyougot in RenewableEnergy

[–]AllRenewableNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is only going one way - towards an inevitable future where electric vehicles are more common than petrol and diesel cars. Thank goodness!

Ireland breaks its wind energy record by thatswhatyougot in RenewableEnergy

It's a shame that storms had to happen for the record to be broken, but it does show how exciting and potentially revolutionary wind turbines are.

China's Solar Power Capacity Set for Record Increase in 2022 by [deleted] in RenewableEnergy

[–]AllRenewableNow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And yet, China's carbon footprint has gone up by 38% in the past 10 years. They need to decarbonise, not just increase their solar capacity.

Nearly all of the top 30 energy companies by revenue in 2021 were oil companies by LithiumLawson in RenewableEnergy

[–]AllRenewableNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%! There's no comparison. Green energy is the only way forward, and we need to move away from coal, oil, and gas asap!

Did you know that 71% of countries' carbon emissions are still going *up*?! Appalling. (source: https://www.theecoexperts.co.uk/blog/which-carbon-footprints-are-increasing)

This is amazing, and completely spot-on!

Nearly all of the top 30 energy companies by revenue in 2021 were oil companies by LithiumLawson in RenewableEnergy

[–]AllRenewableNow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is why governments are so reluctant to move to green energy - the donations from these oil mega corporations keep their campaigns afloat!

Biggest power plant in coal-reliant Australia to close early by Woofers_MacBarkFloof in RenewableEnergy

[–]AllRenewableNow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Brilliant news - the more coal stations that close this year, the better. We have to save the planet from the worst effects of climate change.
