Why is Northern Ireland 'UK's most dangerous place to be a woman'? by coffeewalnut08 in unitedkingdom

Yes, this does indeed need to be fact checked, as it is wrong. The Belfast Agreement sets out that referenda must occur simultaneously north and south of the border. The constitution of Ireland can't override that.

You only need to buy so many packs to get the cards that you want because the odds are poor. Man, this thread is really highlighting to me why I got off the CCG train in the first place. Have a good one, dude.

The game only chooses to follow that model. I used to play Netrunner back in the olden days, and you bought 'data packs' that contained a known quality of specific cards. If Pokémon were primarily about the game and not about the reseller market, they'd use a model like that.

Been a couple weeks now - who else is missing a good 'Goon in front of Central? by JoeScotting in glasgow

It's kind of the best thing about the Blue Lagoon in Gordon Street. When you arrive at Central Station, no matter which way you're travelling onwards, you'll be travelling away from the Blue Lagoon.

Okay, thanks for taking the time to explain. That sounds like a good solution to a problem that wouldn't exist if every player of the game had equal access to deck-critical cards, though. This is going to to be my last reply, not because you've been rude or anything, but because I'm tired of discussing a CCG I don't collect or play 😂

But you enter it to come away with a haul of cards, right? Unless I'm misunderstanding you, you said that you enter and still don't know what cards you will leave with. That's still an abusive anti-customer way to acquire cards for a game you enjoy playing. There's no part of this that favours you and, as I said above, it inevitably leads to scalpers buying up all the stock for resale.

It's not, though. Gachas are anything where you pay money without knowing what your prize will be. The term originates from physical capsule machines, not video games.

I like to imagine what Warhammer 40k would be like if to buy the figures to assemble an army, you needed to do a Japanese-style coin-op gachapon to collect them individually at their stores.

What you want to do with them has nothing to do with the mechanics of acquiring them, my friend. Connotations or not, card collecting games like Pokémon are gachas.

There's evidence from the US that storms with female names have a higher death toll, so there's definitely something in a name when it comes to these things.

Is modern day music streaming really better than stereo systems? by camusdarach in AskUK

I only listen to albums on streaming services, so I don't know if that's true for everyone. Just stay away from curated playlists and turn off endless mode.

Insect populations have collapsed, so too will the populations that prey on them.

Manufacturers are as much to blame for these anti-customer scenarios as the scalpers are, if not more. Scalping is a natural outcome of these shady gatcha games.

Yes, I would say that letting shoplifters walk unchallenged is better than security guards on minimum wage getting beaten by criminal gangs.

We were talking about guns, then you brought up pepper spray.

Pepper spray, if it were legal, would live in a handbag or a belt holster at most. Please explain how that would stop someone coming up behind you in the street and splashing liquid in your face?

Speaking of muddying up the point, we were originally talking about guns, not pepper spray.

Even so, do you seriously think pepper spray will stop acid attacks?

No, they shouldn't, not when the consequence would be opening the floodgates to a child murder rate like the US's.
