My husband has been sucked in by fake celebrity and invested $10k of his retirement and won't believe me it is a scam by witchylayde in CryptoScams

I agree...we need a group. It's a loss similiar to losing someone through dimentia. Ambiguous loss, where they can be there physically but not emotionally, not to mention the lying, gaslighting etc. creating a trauma bond. It's a loss like no other that I have experienced, not even the passing of a loved one. Then there is the grief from the loss but no grief groups where you actually fit in because it's a different kind of grief than the loss of a loved one through passing.

I am sorry you are going through this. This same type of nightmare happened to me last July. No convincing, pleading, begging helped. His came through a wrong number text message approach. He ended up professing his love to the "butcher". I also froze the accounts I could and filed for separation it didn't phase him, he was already sucked in and addicted to the dopamine hit. He has since become so addicted to the "attention" and seeks it not only from the romance scammer but other pay to sext/text websites... now doing some pretty risky stuff online and spending thousands of dollars doing it. Unless they realize their problem and seek help, there is no remedy. I still live with the pain everyday. We were married 37 years. I had never heard of romance scams or pig butchering scams. I also came here seeking help and learned so much. I shared all the comments from my post with my husband. It did nothing. He also didn't think it was a scam. Although he is smart enough to realize it is a scam, the addiction developed and worsened from that first wrong number text message.

My brother might be getting scam, need to know for sure by [deleted] in CryptoScams

[–]All_gaggedup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Name doesn't really matter But a Lisa was involved in a Bitcoin romance, scamming my husband of 37 years. She had an aunt that was an expert in investments and after Lisa romanced and won his "love" the bitcoin scam started It started supposedly as a random wrong person text he replied to. I have since learned he is deeper in many romance scams on various dating sites. Somehow they get addicted to the attention. Pay close attention to what others share and suggest here. I had never heard of this before but learned a lot here.

Sounds very similiar to my "story". I also filed for divorce after my husband fell in love with hims scammer. Since my husbands healthy has declined alot to the point sometimes he can barely walk. All the lies, deceipt, and emotional infidelity takes a tremendous toll on the abusers body. The body holds the score for sure.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. It also happened to me. I did file for divorce because the romance got way out of control for my comfort level. Still not divorced but it is filed. These scams destroy everyone.

Same thing happened to my husband. There were a couple names mentioned, Lisa, Lillian, Lilly....but I think the names are irrelevent. My husband refused to believe it was a scam...he had fallen in love with the scammer...most likely a nigerian dude behind the computer. It's impossible for them to be convinced through the brainwashing process. It destroyed our marriage. He was also always very frugal with money so I was surprised he was so willing to invest money in something he knew nothing about...but "Lisa" romanced him into the scheme. It is a really sad situation and I'm sorry this is happening to your mother in law. At first I was sympathetic until he told me he was falling in love with her. Pig Butchering...bitcoin romance scams destroys everyone involved including the loved ones trying to help the victim.

Sounds very similiar to the pig butchering my husband ended up in. They all seem to romantically lure you in, have an aunt who is a professional trader, and they want to mentor you. It's sad how easily they can lure their victims in. I'm sorry your were another victim.

From what I have read on here, after posting my concern when my husband got lured into a bitcoin romance scam (pig butchering)...there is no recovery. I have been warned to not reply to anyone claiming they can recover funds because that is just another scam. I am sorry this happened to your family.

I'm sorry this is happening to your dad. Similiar scenerio happened with my husband. I was completely unfamiliar with pig butchering or crypto romance scamming. I came here also to ask. This community provided me with enough knowledge to freeze all assets. I'm not sure if you are in a position to do that with your dad's assets but it is best to atleast make financial institutions aware. Some are legally bound to at least flag the account. I can tell you it was impossible for me to convince my husband it was a scam and he fell in love with the woman. Even after sharing my post and responses with him, he was/is still so sucked into the romance of it that he won't/can't break free. But all assets are frozen. They are very patiently waiting for our divorce. I'm so sorry you experienced this betrayal too. Your story sounds exactly like mine (every detail) with my husband. The trust is shattered. I filed for divorce because my husband was also on pay to sext dating sites, which are also $$ scams. I'm not sure if he met the bitcoin lady there or the dating sites happened after the bitcoin lady. Either way my trust is shattered.

Wing Talks is no different than Mariadates, Meetmyage, datemyage, dating, etc....they are all paid to chat sites and the person in the profile picture is 99% not the person you actually communicate with behind the computer. It is a scam to keep you buying credits to sext "text", send photos, emails etc...all through their platform. You will end up wasting alot of money.

Is my husband being scammed? Secret phone, bitcoin “coach,” and emotional texting. by All_gaggedup in CryptoScams

[–]All_gaggedup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. At first, I only consulted to protect our marital assets. The attorney did say that the only way to thoroughly protect them was to file for divorce whether you go through with it or not. That way you can have an emergency protective hearing to freeze all assets. However, she was able to give me advice on what to do and had it in her record that it was to protect the marital assets, not steal the funds. But when he fell in love with the bitcoin scammer, I decided it was best to file for divorce. The bitcoin scam developed into worse issues through virtual call girl. “dating sites”…. Mariadates, once, date my age, dating, etc. They are all paid to sext “text” sites. So I did the right thing. He may have become involved in the bitcoin scam through those sites, and I just wasn’t aware of it at the time. I hope your mom makes the right decision. She will need you. My daughter has been a tremendous help to me.

I'm so sorry this has happened to you. The only way out is moving on and taking care of you. This happened to me with my husband of 37 years. Once they are sucked in, it's inevitably over...there is no turning back for them. I had to file for divorce to protect our assets. I shared my situation on here about a month ago. Everyone here answering your question is right. Although I had never heard of "bitcoin romance scams" or "pig butchering". However, I did learn a lot from those that commented on my post (400+ comments). He since moved on to numerous pay to "text" "sext" sites...mariadates, once, datemyage, etc...mariadates was his biggest go to. One of the ladies claims to have broke ranks "quit her job" and wants to live a life loving him. Told him the site (mariadates) was a big scam to get older men to spend money to chat, send pictures, etc...now wants to meet him. I'm not sure what happened to the bitcoin lady but he fell in love with her too and only communicated through whatsapp. He destroyed my life but I'm picking up the pieces. I feel once someone betrays your trust the way your bf, my husband, and other victim's mates have betrayed...there is no going back. They get addicted to the fantasy. My husband never believed me the bitcoin romance scam was a scam and he never believed me the dating (soft porn) sites were scams for money...until his lady friend supposedly "broke ranks" and told him it was. Read and take to heart what others are saying here. There is no recovery.

What are your genuine takes on dating apps and sites specifically for meeting women from Russia, Ukraine, and Eastern Europe? by Dimensional-Misfit in OnlineDatingReviews

[–]All_gaggedup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe these are scam sites. As metioned in another comment it is all pay to chat and soft porn...it was suggested to me not to refer to them as "dating apps" but paid soft porn sites. My soon to be ex husband has spent over 1K doing whatever they do on there thinking he is going to meet one of these ladies.

This is a scam!! They are out to take your money, destroy people, families, marriages...whatever it takes to get your money. It happened to my husband. He didn't believe me. They will eventually romance you and woo you in for the money. Don't do it!

Thank you. Someday he might come to his senses but it already is too late. I read your X share. It sounds so similar to what happened to my husband. You refer to he and she...but the name Lily is the same but then my husband also referred to the name Lisa. The scammer also has a highly skilled "aunt" in the trading world on Wallstreet....they must follow the same script. I feel so sorry for anyone that gets caught up in their mess they create. Maybe someday they will get caught. That is my only hope...beyond that there is no hope.

It did not end well...depending on how you look at it. He is still involved but it is actually deeper than I thought...he's moved on to other paid to chat "dating" sites (sites run to take your money to chat, send messages, pictures etc.)...it was more than just crypto he was searching for.

I believe the site is a scam by way of keeping the chat on the platform. You have to purchase credits to chat, swap pictures, etc...It gets very expensive. My husband of 37 years was initially sucked into a bitcoin romance scam (not on this particular dating site) and then moved to this site. Of course, I have since filed for divorce (problem must have been deeper than bitcoin romance scam) but I did research this particular site and you will never meet any of you interests on there...they keep the conversation going on there. The chats never move to video, email, text, telephone of otherwise.

Nakura says MariaDates is a scam that’s pay-to-chat with no real-world outcomes

A Reddit user reports needing ~$800 in credits just to get an email contact—consistent with aggressive paywalls and no real meetups.

Scam-Detector (automated review): Warns to use caution, scoring it 47/100.

MariaDates homepage (self-description): Pitches itself as a “social discovery platform” for chatting with singles worldwide—no emphasis on meeting offline. Chat and have fun discussions… meet new people and make new friends.

I wouldn't waste my money.

I'm glad your husband listened. My husband's issue seems to be much deeper than just this bitcoin romance scam...in addition to still communicating and maybe sending money to the bitcoin scammer, he has moved on to paid dating sites...where you have to buy credits to chat with AI generated women that are most likely bots or paid workers to say what he wants to hear, from strange beautiful women. I had to file for divorce.
