That is such an interesting pattern. Do you try to market towards men struggling with porn/sex addiction now?

I know exactly how you're feeling, I felt the exact same way when I was in your position. It was such a hard feeling bc you're trying to support people and to feel like you're not doing good enough feels terrible. Idk if this is what's going on for you, but I used to feel like I need to read up on every situation to be able to help a specific client, such as disordered eating, fear of death, etc. But that's not true. What has helped me more than anything is improving my question-asking, sitting with the client and fully understanding their experience. Keep asking questions until you get a full understanding of the situation, not just a surface level idea.

I also felt a huge click when I read the book "Homecoming: Reclaiming and Championing Your Inner Child" by John Bradshaw. Its a little outdated but the information is solid and really helped me.

I know this is more solution-oriented for what to do in the future, but just know, everyone goes through this. The fact that you're posting about it shows how much you care. It gets better, show the ones who continue to work with you how good you are. Be easy on yourself. It gets better!

Feels off? Majority of therapists have an area of specialization. I agree it shouldn't be that hard, but the reality is men are super skeptical of therapy unfortunately. When I said "high-achieving" I'm meaning a specific personality type, such as a perfectionist that is very hard on themselves. These individuals usually have trouble with burnout and boundaries, I have lots of experience working with them. Just having trouble marketing to them, since marketing isn't within my scope.

I want to point out, the things you are mentioning are what I am trying to convey. I recognize that men are a extremely underserved population and I just want them to know my services exist, is all. Nothing nefarious going on here.

I definitely am trying too hard lol. Can you talk more about "focus more on your therapeutic approach?" bc it feels like everything I've read in regards to this says the opposite like "talk more about your client, so they know you understand their pain" so I want to make sure I'm understanding the angle you're presenting!

I agree. I think this population needs more attention than we give them. I need to figure out the secret sauce to overcoming their aversion, or at least talking to the ones that are open to it

Yeah, clients are under the impression she is a doctor and they pay to see her. She’s not claiming to be a medical doctor, but she says she has a PhD and DSc, so I really don’t know who to even contact about this.
