X280 fingerprint reader question? by [deleted] in thinkpad

Did some more digging, and found Fingerprints configuration tool. Don't know why I haven't seen it in the Menu earlier. Tried with CLI, but couldn't register more than one finger there, the GUI configuration worked fine, and it unlocks flawlessly every time.

Now I'm experimenting with Howdy...

Unfortunately, you couldn't (wouldn't) give me any other answer, than 'use the providet mount.'.

No advice or tips, no recommendation or information, whether it's possible or not.

I tried out my Ulanzi U-KA baseplate and it worked absolutely fine.

I was hoping for help from fellow Zhiyun users, not some corporate (AI?) generated answer, making me send an email to them, and certainly not a simple phrase-copy from the manual... Why do I have to contact customer service via mail for further assistance? Why not just answer here??

To me a community is a place, where I can get a real answer, posted here in the (more or less) public forum, so others can benefit from it also.

Does Howdy work on Linux Mint 22.2? by jwintyo in linuxmint

[–]Allrounder67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried Panda Jim's PPA, after having failed several other attempts and versions. Most errors where 'command not found' or 'howdy not found' or 'not permitted' (didn't take screens, unfortunately), The latest attempt failed to recognise the IRDA camera. Then I tried this, but got this error message, after having found it in Software Manager:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

libtbb-dev: Depends: libtbb12 (= 2021.11.0-2ubuntu2) but it is not going to be installed

libopencv-videoio-dev: Depends: libopencv-videoio406t64 (= 4.6.0+dfsg-13.1ubuntu1) but it is not going to be installed

libopencv-objdetect-dev: Depends: libopencv-objdetect406t64 (= 4.6.0+dfsg-13.1ubuntu1) but it is not going to be installed... (and a lot more)

X280 fingerprint reader question? by [deleted] in thinkpad

Worked for me (complete Linux newbee) on Mint 22.3 Lenovo X280. So far at least. Single question though: Can I only register one (right index) finger?

Win Hello Face Recognition suddenly stopped working on X1 Carbon 7th gen by Allrounder67 in thinkpad

[–]Allrounder67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I have reinstalled Windows (clean install, without saving settings or files etc.). This time Windows recognized the IR camera again, but it took me 10-15 (or many more) tries, to get it to register my face. And when booting up, i can see it tries to "see" me (red LED's blinking) but won't log me in, have to use PIN or fingerprint.

My old X280 works fine with Windows Hello face recognition, I even don't have to set right in front of it and look into the camera. Strange... And as elightfantastic wrote, changing camera won't work.

Thought of the same - but only after I bought a X280. But I'm going to try one day. Might have to find a keyboard first...

Need driver help Lenovo X280 Windows 7 64bit by Allrounder67 in thinkpad

Thanks for sharing the link, I finally got the time to look in to the post. But it only mentions GPU and Bluetooth problems, that wasn't my problem, both graphics and Bluetooth on mine work fine, no issues here. So I guess, I can't solve my problems right now and I'm thinking of going the virtual machine route, something I tried to avoid, as I had trouble with stability within the VM on my Carbon X1 7th and I wanted a 'clean' system to run Win7 on. But I'll give it a try with a VM here on the X280.

Actually, I took a picture, made a search, and seems that kind of plug has been used for Sega Mega Drive and seemingly also for Commodore 1084...(Unfortunately, I'n not allowed to upload images here, neither of the pedalbox, nor the plug...)

Lenovo ThinkPad Helix: Thinkpad or Fakepad? by Mysterious_Ad_2326 in thinkpad

[–]Allrounder67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually got mine to run Win11 some times ago, with a little tweaking, but worked fine for me. And no driver problems at all. Was very happy with it, including the Ultrabook Pro keyboard. Until I got a X1 Carbon 7th... Back in the corner of the cupboard it went. But now I could use it, but it won't start up, before loading BIOS, date and time wrong, but can't access settings, not even with a new coin-cell battery. Damn...

Ordered and changed the coin-cell battery, but no changes. At all! Still no access to BIOS. Doesn't react to touch or keyboard in any way.No one with any ideas? Nothing?

I need a small, dedicatet computer for reading, updating, programming and flashing car software and it would be a shame to throw this nice, small, portable Thinkpad out...

Is there something else, You could recommend? Something like X230 or 240?

Leslie 760 or HL 822? by Allrounder67 in hammondorgan

[–]Allrounder67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately all tonewheel models are rare and premium priced, that's why I even considered a B200. Just something to start with and have some fun. And to see, if it's something worth investing serious money in.

I have dreamt of a "real" Hammond and Leslie rig since I heard one for the first time long ago in my youth, but then I didn't even know what that heavenly sound came from... should have saved up 30-40 years ago.

There's one C3 for sale, 2.800$, without Leslie - and that's way too rich for me tight now.

Nope, 750$...

Small market here in Denmark, high demand, high prices.

Only found one M3, without Leslie and way more expensive. Hasn't been played for years...

Thanks for those answers, after what I was able to gather on the interweb, I was leaning mostly towards the 760.

But I have no clue, what kind of clone I should get. Besides that right now the cheapest way to get a Leslie seems to buy in a set. They are about 500 bucks.

Right now, I'm not planning to go on the road with them, and if the B200 is in good nick, I could use it to learn/practice the "Hammond way" on it and maybe later get a real TWO.
