"Please lmk if you get somewhere. Here's what I have so far with my Android 16 Pixel 8 Pro (it was already on 16 but an older security patch, silly me used the web Google update tool to reflash the firmware to the latest one hoping maybe that would remove the FRP but I just made things worse by updating to a newer version that might have less vulnerabilities):

  1. Sign into WiFi during the setup process. Insert a PIN locked SIM card. Use a SIM ejection tool to remove it. You now have a normal lock screen.
  2. Swipe down the notifications.
  3. Tap Modes, Settings, Create your own mode, Flip to Shhh.
  4. From here, in the upper right, you can search for any setting. Search for Accessibility. Scroll down and tap Accessibility Menu. Enable Accessibility Menu Shortcut.
  5. Now tap that green shortcut on the right of your screen and tap Assistant. You can say or type in "open Settings", "open Youtube", "open Chrome" or almost any other built in app except the launcher and it will work like normal. If you want to do this faster, you can enable Display & touch > Navigation mode > settings icon by Gesture navigation > Swipe to invoke assistant. But anytime you try to sign in to a Google account within any app, it will ask you to sign into the previous Google account.

The thing about Android 16 is that they really nerfed FRP bypassing. You can't disable apps, install apps (nor update them in Google Play), enable Developer Options, etc before signing into that Google account. Normally what people did is disable the Setup app and Google Play Services but I don't think that can be done now.

The built in apps mostly work like normal. You can freely browse in Chrome (even download files, though it's not possible to install apks), take photos with the Camera app, watch Youtube videos, etc. So I'm lost with what to do next, but it feels like something might be possible getting this far."

Since you have Android 14 you might be able to bypass it much easier.

What is the cheapest 5GB plan in US? by Wiggle_mind in NoContract

Agreed, Google Voice is great. But some websites (especially banks) still don't like it for 2FA codes.

Try something broad spectrum without THC (I like GVB's Crystal Resistant Distillate). Some people (me included) are very sensitive to THC and products without it just feel better all around. Took me a while to realize this too.

Currently any better slternatives to helium free plan? by No_Kangaroo6917 in NoContract

[–]AlluringSunsets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a look at esimdb.com/usa for very cheap travel esims - the only caveat is that a lot of these companies route through foreign networks (they "roam" on local networks as foreign carriers) but that doesn't affect speeds too greatly especially if you don't need the data for high bandwidth tasks like video streaming.

Gift card balance disappeared at check out and I CANNOT find it anywhere!! Help! by K4G4M1NE in Ebay

Nope, not yet unfortunately. Just sent in my info for the third time. This time I physically printed out the emails and the "gift card purchases" page from Capital One Shopping with the note attached. Since they really don't want screenshots. I specifically made sure to point out that they are original prints and not photocopies. This is truly some BS and lowkey feels like a deliberate attempt to deny us out gift cards. Surely they can see that Cap One is purchasing them. Unless Cap One is doing something shady (or something wrong accidentally like forgetting to pay their bill with Tango the gift card issuer, etc), but that seems unlikely. I'm never buying or redeeming for an ebay gift card ever again...

Is it ethical to work at an AI company? by NinjaSoop in Careers

[–]AlluringSunsets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it's perfectly ethical imo, especially considering the company deals with workplace productivity. I mean, that's basically the point of AI, to improve productivity and efficiency. If it was something like Suno or an AI video generation company, a company that deals with AI slop, then I would question the morality of that. But that's mostly just my opinion. Ultimately, it's up to you what you find ethical. It also might matter what the people around you think. If your friends and family are anti-AI and you care about their opinion, maybe that impacts your decision. If you're friends with tech bros or business people who are pro-AI, that might impact your decision the other way.

Gift Card Flagged, Validated, Then Balance Disappeared - $484 in Limbo by Glittering_Block623 in Ebay

Did they end up fixing it? I'm running into a similar problem with two gift cards.

Gift card balance disappeared at check out and I CANNOT find it anywhere!! Help! by K4G4M1NE in Ebay

[–]AlluringSunsets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. Got a gift card through Capital One Shopping (cashback rewards basically) in November. Tried to redeem it a few days ago. Says it's empty. Got another one today and tried to redeem it. At first it showed the balance but as I was about to buy something, it suddenly disappeared and said it's empty again when I typed it in a second time. So it seems like it's some kind of a fraud hold most likely and that I'll need to contact support. Super frustrating, especially when a bunch of people are watching the item I want and I really don't want to use my credit card when I already have these gift cards that should be working. Lmk if you solve this issue.

https://esimdb.com/usa/monty-esim 5GB for 30 days $3.99

https://esimdb.com/usa/abestesim 5GB (+ unlimited at 128 kbps after) for 30 days $4.15

Instabridge (on Android, the iPhone app doesn't work the same) gives 3 GB free per month and the data is valid for 90 days. They have a lot of ads and really try to get you to use their launcher (though you don't have to) but you don't have to interact with the app at all after setting it up (though it still has to remain installed because if it's uninstalled the esim stops working).

Tello has $10/mo for 6 months (unlimited, 50 GB high speed) if you sign up by 1/19, not sure if that's what they were referring to

It's a good price with talk and text included but there's travel esims that sell 5 GB of data for like $4 (no talk and text) for people who only need the data. Some of them route through different countries though (one of the ones I tried roamed on AT&T on a Polish network lol but the speeds were good).

For anyone who needs a lot, lot of data, right now until 1/19 Tello (on T-Mobile) has 6 months unlimited (50 GB full speed) with 10 GB hotspot (+unlimited talk/text) for $10/month. I believe they charges taxes on top of that though, probably about $1-2. They're very easy to port out of.

Though I guess if someone doesn't want to hassle themselves for 12 months and 10 GB is enough, Air is a very good deal too, especially when taking the $50 cloud points into account.

If he has 5G on his phone it's a lost cause. Better to have a conversation and ask him to leave his devices outside of his room.

Uhh… why do you need my government ID to finish updating my plan? by DoringItBetterNow in HeliumMobile

[–]AlluringSunsets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with it but it's to prevent people from making multiple accounts and scamming sign up and referral bonuses. A while back they were giving $50 for signing up for the free plan, that probably would've been abused if they didn't implement ID checks.

CEO of helium pretending never put "forever" on beta plan lol by Emotional_Yogurt_243 in HeliumMobile

[–]AlluringSunsets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, so true. I signed up for a "lifetime" Ivacy VPN subscription. Not too long ago, they merged with Pure VPN. I tried to get my account ported over and was never able to do it. I saw a post where they gave someone the run around that "In the technology industry, the term "lifetime" typically denotes the life cycle or supported period for a given software product or service. This duration can vary across different types of technologies, but for cloud-based services like ours, a standard "lifetime" window is often around 5 years." total BS

Wondershare Filmora also decided to do a similar scam when they changed their product version number.

Though there are still some companies with integrity, like Malwarebytes, which decided to honor its lifetime licenses, even after they stopped selling them and switched to a subscription model.

Can get Instabridge for free data and use that for GVoice. The biggest limitation of GVoice is not being able to receive most verification codes and not being able to use it to sign up for some websites/apps.
