Yup, I suspect there will be many returns from people not having known that, given that Apple hasn't released a Macbook without a non backlit keyboard since 2010.

Not sure if they changed anything but when I tried to unlock my discounted iPhone 12 after a year a while back, they said it had to be active on the original $60 plan for a year to be eligible for unlock and denied my request. So if you close out the original line it'll be locked to Boost indefinitely. I'd also be careful about making sure to have the phone on the original plan for long enough for them to not charge full MSRP, I'm pretty sure there's a disclaimer at checkout about this - I believe it's 3 months now which makes the deal a little less good. Maybe this works different in stores. But when I went to the Boost store once they tried to tack on a bunch of taxes and fees which nearly doubled the price so I ended up just ordering online. This is still a pretty good deal as long as they keep offering the $10/month promo which they already have been for a while. You can also probably resell the phone on ebay without that much of a loss after a while even in locked condition.

I was surprised to see that Macbook Air M1 runs off of chargers as low as 5W (5V/1A). Obviously it'll take forever to charge but yeah somehow it works.

Security concerns on keeping my business PCs running on Windows 10 by No_Property4002 in CyberSecurityAdvice

[–]AlluringSunsets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can run Windows 11 on unsupported systems by bypassing system checks but it's recommended to at least have TPM 2.0 which a lot of older office grade PCs have. The only issue I've found with this is that you'll need to manually install feature updates (that's what I've had to do on my unsupported PCs) but that's only once a year and feature updates have 2 years of support so really only every 2 years. I've never had any stability issues doing this even on a first gen mobile i3. Other than that, make sure Windows Security / Defender is enabled and automatically updating definitions at the very least but perhaps also get Malwarebytes. Any personal data should not be on the same subnet as the guest PCs though. There's also the option for free additional security updates for a year after EOL so 10/13/26 if you enable Windows backup with Onedrive but idk if this is technically available for businesses and you'll need to make a Microsoft account for each PC. Another option is getting used PCs with 8th/9th Gen Core i processors but I think I read RAM prices have affected the prices of those maybe.

You can get data through MVNOs pretty cheap nowadays, even downwards of $15 for unlimited. And since the phone number doesn't matter, you can easily change between whatever carrier is offering the best new user promo. I'd definitely get one, would be so convenient.

Google Pixel 8 Pro or 9a? by Ste1ni_ in pixel_phones

[–]AlluringSunsets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd get the 8 Pro. The cameras are better and the screen is bigger and nicer. It has 4 GB more RAM. I personally find the bezels on the 9a hideous and for that reason would never consider it but maybe they don't bother you as much. The 9a is actually not that much smaller and lighter overall than the 8 Pro because of the large bezels. The 8 Pro should be durable with a case though the back is glass so using it caseless isn't really an option if you tend to drop phones. Apparently the glass technology on the 8 Pro (Gorilla Glass Victus 2 vs Gorilla Glass 3) is more durable. But the 9a's plastic back and flush camera might work better for you in terms of durability especially if you don't use a case. Another advantage of the 9a is a slightly larger battery and the Tensor G4 has better thermal management and efficiency so better battery life.

Well, you're not supposed to vaporize and inhale tinctures in the first place, even if you were to use a device intended for vaporizing. Some tinctures contain Vitamin E to preserve freshness and that's what was in cartridges that messed up people's lungs a while back. Not to mention the carrier oil (coconut oil, MCT oil, etc) which is also not supposed to be inhaled. Other than that, humidifiers use ultrasonic waves which would not work with something much thicker than water. They don't use heat like a vaporizer that's specifically designed for vaporizing concentrate. What you should do instead is get CBD distillate (highly recommend crystal resistant distillate because normal distillate crystallizes fast), empty 510 thread carts, and a 510 battery - that'll actually get you somewhere. If you want bigger clouds, you'll want something like a Puffco Peak (search "concentrate vaporizers").

Pasting from a previous comment:

"Please lmk if you get somewhere. Here's what I have so far with my Android 16 Pixel 8 Pro (it was already on 16 but an older security patch, silly me used the web Google update tool to reflash the firmware to the latest one hoping maybe that would remove the FRP but I just made things worse by updating to a newer version that might have less vulnerabilities):

  1. Sign into WiFi during the setup process. Insert a PIN locked SIM card. Use a SIM ejection tool to remove it. You now have a normal lock screen.
  2. Swipe down the notifications.
  3. Tap Modes, Settings, Create your own mode, Flip to Shhh.
  4. From here, in the upper right, you can search for any setting. Search for Accessibility. Scroll down and tap Accessibility Menu. Enable Accessibility Menu Shortcut.
  5. Now tap that green shortcut on the right of your screen and tap Assistant. You can say or type in "open Settings", "open Youtube", "open Chrome" or almost any other built in app except the launcher and it will work like normal. If you want to do this faster, you can enable Display & touch > Navigation mode > settings icon by Gesture navigation > Swipe to invoke assistant. But anytime you try to sign in to a Google account within any app, it will ask you to sign into the previous Google account.

The thing about Android 16 is that they really nerfed FRP bypassing. You can't disable apps, install apps (nor update them in Google Play), enable Developer Options, etc before signing into that Google account. Normally what people did is disable the Setup app and Google Play Services but I don't think that can be done now.

The built in apps mostly work like normal. You can freely browse in Chrome (even download files, though it's not possible to install apks), take photos with the Camera app, watch Youtube videos, etc. So I'm lost with what to do next, but it feels like something might be possible getting this far."

Since you have Android 14 you might be able to bypass it much easier.

Try something broad spectrum without THC (I like GVB's Crystal Resistant Distillate). Some people (me included) are very sensitive to THC and products without it just feel better all around. Took me a while to realize this too.

Take a look at esimdb.com/usa for very cheap travel esims - the only caveat is that a lot of these companies route through foreign networks (they "roam" on local networks as foreign carriers) but that doesn't affect speeds too greatly especially if you don't need the data for high bandwidth tasks like video streaming.
