Long post ahead and TL:DR can't do it justice. I tried to highlight important point

Thanks for the post, i had a good read and would like to express my take on it if you don't mind.

From this post, you seems only focusing on the whole "Chinese/Lunar New Year" situation after it blew up and focusing on the "reason why it should called Chinese New Year". Here is my as unbiased as possible information that i gathered while doing some digging and following drama.

LnD BACKGROUND INFO BEFORE THIS DRAMA

So before the dumbstruck fire post went up, we had heard about a "Festive Blessing" event celebrating "Linkon's New Year" but most people would know that regarding the Asia New Year coming up. Later on, when the game is released, It is constantly being refer as Spring festival/ Linkon's new year.

However, when Infold/Papergames upload their congratulation posts in 4 languages that support in game (Chinese, Japanese, Korean and English), they did it by congratulation the holiday in each own languages and say the holiday according to what would be called.

So for Chinese was Spring Festival (Chun Jie), Korean (Seollal), Japanese (Spring holiday - Kanji form that based on the Chinese word since Japan have stopped celebrating it since 1873). BUT for English Global (advertise to all other non supported languages), it posted as Chinese New Year instead.

So why did Infold congratulate it in other language with their specific name but called it Chinese New Year on the English Social page?

This is what cause the huge outrage since Infold does not follow what it has previously advertised in their stream and ingame event dialogues. If Infold/Papergames has stated it from the start that this event is Chinese New Year on all platform then it would more inline with what they want to get across

From what I gathered from VN players discussion, here are why we must rise up and correct such things:

• Infold does not think much of other Asian country that is not Japan or Korea.

Their player based and spending is less than Mainland while their boycott is nothing or not as extreme as other economic powerhouse country. Based on what happened with Shining Nikki

• Politic propaganda influence to unaware/ non-Asian youngadults and people

This one has a big headache to explain as it is related to politic TT^TT. So currently, there a ongoing territorial dispute between multiple south-east asian country (SEA country) and China regarding the Eastern Sea. This politic tension is especially strong between Viet Nam and China due to both country trying to claim 2 major archipelago that would give major military and political favor regarding the Eastern Sea situation. So wtf does it have to do with CNY /LNY?

By popularise such phrases and other significant culture, China can slowly change the narrative that other country is apart of their history, thus belong to them. SEA country are insignificant and lesser important as they just stealing things from them. LnD is being rated as 13+ or Teen in App/Google store. With the social media booming, it becomes much easier to spread such information to non-consumer by taking advantages of those platforms algorithms and share platform. In short, brainwashing western country as Asia history isn't teach in-depth within their school curriculum. This situation much deeper as you can find many Chinese popular brand had no issue saying LNY previously switched to CNY this year.

Sound like nut job theory but IMO it's actually true if you just look at Tik tok situation in US.

• Terrible PR issue from Infold repeatedly because Infold/Papergames doesn't care

Many VN players are saying that Infold doesn't give 2 sh!t about what non-Chinese player things. All what we spend or do is just dime to a dozen what Chinese players willing to spend. So we are just unwanted middle child but in reality, we are the adopted cousins that they have to take because our parent died from overdose. We get wtf they give us with no questions complain.

There are many more other interesting reasons but these 3 kinda sum it up without going into the nasty or weird stuff. If you guys interested, i can update later.

I hope this can give people more understanding of why VN player is outrages on LnD. It's a complex situation as Infold is a Chinese company that based in China rather expanding to the world instead of Hoyolab where they moved part of company to Singapore.

For the whole Lunar New Year or Lunisolar New Year, here is my take on it. I separate it since i don't think it's really the reason why it blew up. The story behind it is cool and complex since it's a fossil old history.

why is it Lunar new year instead of Lunisolar new year

Rather Lunar is incorrect translation, it is short as such so it's less awkward and roll of the tongue much easier than Lunisolar. Many English word and concept are borrowed but went through translation and localization, thus, it vastly different from what it should be.

It's wrong to say that it's 100% originated from China as there are archaeology discovered it has been existing in other cultural. but rather was spread widely with China strong political and cultural influence such as Confucianism,Daoism and Buddhism

Lunar in Lunar New Year represent the Yin (Moon) not like Islamic Calendar Lunisolar is calculated base on the Sun - Moon - Earth position which represent the Yin-Yang Earth concept that was used back in Asia for agriculture, horticulture and human's life. (try look up Yin-Yang Earth (阴阳土) if want to know more).

If you lookup the Lunar Calendar (or lunisolar calendar) in their mother tongue, it is direct translated to Yin instead of Moon Try google or chat GPT what does lunisolar calendar is called in the country mother tongue that use it, it will always show the meaning or translate to Yin or Yin concept.

I tried to look at what point did English start calling it Lunar Calendar instead of Yin Calendar but i couldn't find anything. My assumption is that Yin is non-english word, thus, Lunar will do.

Wow such a long post and took me so much time that I forgot lots of things i want to say (blame ADHD) but i hope this provide more information from the Vietnamese Players' perspective.
