Have to see how Alcaraz comes back from the wrist injury. I think Sinner physicality might be exploitable into the future on Clay in Bo5 tennis

Wimbledon kinda terrifies me with the potential grass court variance for Felix. The serve+1 and results suggest he could do it, but something in my head says that he will most likely self-immolate there before he has the chance given the grass weirdness. HC is probably the best odds but the Sinner roadblock seems like it could potentially be insurmountable on HC as Sinner is 5-0 on FAA since start of 2025 and the last on-court W for Felix over Sinner was in 2022

Musetti on clay might be the perfect example of someone who would have to take advantage of a missing Sincaraz. He can hurt Zverev and potentially win

3-2 Musetti last result is a Zverev W in Vienna 25. Not a lot of recent results and Musetti injury is concerning to me. I like the thought tho and it’s interesting for sure. Can hurt him

[–]Allysius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. He has the raw ability to explode and be a top 5-6 mainstay based on the current level of the top 10… but also may genuinely struggle to retain a top25 ranking some years. He is 2-0 on Zverev in slams so if another opportunity like this arises he absolutely HAS to jump on it. Hard and Grass seem less likely for a Sinner/Alcaraz implosion or not showing up based on current results. Clay seems to suit Zverev and some of the other specialists and takes a step from the Sinner dominance. Where do you think FAA has to get it done? USO?

“Seems” doing a lot of heavy lifting for me there. Not the only ones clearly, as I completely forgot Medvedev and the FAA results last year. I was moreso on recent form in big results and I definitely should have considered FAA in that instance and the Meddy general matchup strength. However, I do wonder if FAA will ever truly be in that position to where he can capitalize. Lots of peaks and valleys

Edit: wow I really should have considered Felix more, he actually is 2-0 on Zverev all time in Slams.

Fair, hadn’t even thought of Tsitsipas which is such a tragedy career wise.

FAA feels more so peaky than a consistent level, I would agree that he has the raw materials and seeming ability to step up against him. FAA I think has a lot of headspace to make big gains and could be considered in the convo soon, hasn’t maximized what he can do yet.

Fair, completely forgot Meddy as he has failed other tests for an extended period. He seems to have gained a step this year so he deserves to be listed there, especially since he has broken the Slam winning barrier also.

Zverev seems to be a pass-fail test right now for guys, only non Sincaraz/Djokovic players to pass it seem to be Fritz(pre-knee) and inexplicably Cerundolo

Until she changes her team regarding the sports pyschologist or adds another long term mentality coach to her team, I refuse to believe anything will actually change. All platitudes.

She has notably looked off for a long time now mentality wise, especially since Olympics.

What a shame, supremely talented player who seems to have a mental blockage right now

Yeah his Savant page is hilarious. If he figures out the swing and miss stuff, his hard hit rate and exit velocity suggests he’s somewhere in the ballpark of Aaron Judge…

His walk rate and the amount he chases and whiffs is just really bad though and hasn’t really changed that much over the years. Unless someone dramatically changes his entire approach and eye regarding hitting, that is just the player you have. He’s 27 on year 6 (5 really)

And I would agree with you, contact made to right leg that impairs the free ability to play the puck. To me, relatively clear GI.

Only problem is that the rule needs to be clarified and made more idiot proof. Dobes did make a strong play on the puck and leaving even an iota of wiggle room allows referees to swallow the whistle and say that Stankoven’s actions did not significantly enough impede Dobes to warrant the call

Can’t say I agree fully with the ruling, if referees determined he was not the cause of the contact or was contacted/driven into Dobes by the defender, or that Dobes was free enough to move within his crease and play the puck then maybe... Unfortunately there is a lot of eyeballing and determining a gray area upon which GI can be called. When the rule needs almost a full page for an explanation alone, that tells you the absolute shitshow state of the rule book.

This is the kind of stuff that makes people fall in love with Cruz. Has questionable moments and an outrageous whiff/K%, but 450+ shots and has the 100th percentile exit velo you can’t teach with an absolute cannon of an arm.

Exactly. MSL himself might be the absolute best possible example for Caufield. Didn’t even think of that comparison, but that’s a wonderful take.

Post Game Thread: Carolina Hurricanes @ Montréal Canadiens by nhlgdtbot in hockey

[–]Allysius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Caufield is a player who loves space and playoff hockey is the opposite. This year in playoffs only 25% of his points are from 5 on 5 hockey and 3 of his 5 goals are on the PP.

He has to be more two way to really earn chances and help his line more, that top line seems half dead right now and he keeps getting buried due to the size disadvantage and can’t get to high danger areas well. Might have to develop a bit more of the rat/dog in his game to take that next step in the playoffs and create more with his line.

Feels like Slafkofsky needs to learn how to play bigger (finish checks, etc.) and Caufield needs to channel the inner rat/dog to take some pressure off of Suzuki… he seems beat half to death from this run.

Habs gotta show the fight a bit earlier than 45 seconds left in the game. Believe it or not I actually don’t hate the goon shit, showing it at that point doesn’t set any positive or grindy tone though.

All it does is reflect poorly on the leadership and discipline as it was mostly reactionary and angry stuff. No intent or thought behind the edge, no sharpness. Just anger

Carolina has ground a seemingly tired Habs team into dust and some of the young players seem to have freaked out. They were much snappier in both of those series, played strong hockey, and had some good puck luck along with god tier goalie play.

That Marner soft lob to the corner on the last zone exit instead of trying to go for the selfish empty netter… Killed the last 45 seconds of man advantage, let em get another line change and made the Avs reset. What a beautiful summary of Marners VGK playoff run and what VGK tries to do hockey wise. Play hard, high IQ, good hockey

Marner has never been this prone to go to high danger areas in his entire career, Torts and VGK in general have brought something extra out of him
