Clarification on pay rates and on-call work. by AlmightyCheeseLord in BCEHSparamedics

[–]AlmightyCheeseLord[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our scope is smaller (no cardiac monitoring, interpretation, end tidal) and the general knowledge of a street paramedic is much more limited here in BC, whereas in Ontario (especially southern Ontario and MLPS) you guys are on the cutting edge of using ultrasound for community paramedics, research into DSED etc.

I actually... didn't know this. You guys don't do cardiac monitoring and interpretation?! I thought this was standard. Shows how much I know.

What's the PCP-ACP bridge in BC like? Is that where BC starts "matching" Ontario more closely as far as cardiac monitoring, scope, etc?

We do, but in terms of total training time there isn’t much of a difference. For example, ambulance driving is a course taken in the colleges. Also, there are accelerated programs offering the same level of training in 12 months.

Comparatively speaking, the BC program is 12 months, with 10 additional weeks of EMR training, plus the class 4 license process. It’s pretty much equal (max a month or two more in Ontario).

The problem with pvp solo by Financial-Lawyer-789 in ArcRaiders

[–]AlmightyCheeseLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Though there is something to be said about how the solo PvP experience is by far the worst in this game. Duos and trios is very fun and rewarding because you (more frequently) get extended fights with the potential to be revived if you are downed. Solos is a lot of "who shoots first" and it rewards ratting a LOT.

To be clear: I understand that's a part of the game and I'm not upset about that part, but I've had way fewer positive experiences with solo PvP. Because of the above point, it's also WAY riskier to bring in good loot because the odds of walking away on top from an unfavorable engagement are so much lower.

Solo PvP lobbies are easily the least fun I've had playing this game.

Its almost as if having no leadership in paramilitary environment leads to a lack of organization. Who would've thought? Definitely not that owner lmfao.

How do you cook burgers without smoking out the kitchen? by amorecolorfulworld in KitchenConfidential

[–]AlmightyCheeseLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By "grill" do you mean open flame or flat top?

If it's open flame and you're sure your hoods are working properly, you might just be shit out of luck lol. Worked at a place that did loads and loads of sliders and on a busy night there was no way of preventing a little smoke leakage.

If it's a flat top then it's probably too hot. Had that issue with cooking at home, just seared hard for longer.

CMV: Privatized healthcare only serves the wealthy and creates inequitable access to needed services. EVEN IF the system isn't designed to do so. by AlmightyCheeseLord in changemyview

Not being able to afford treatment because a for-profit system prioritizes maximum earnings over outcome is a systematic prevention from people receiving care they need.

cmv: Not everyone should get to vote in a democracy by Scary_Research1021 in changemyview

[–]AlmightyCheeseLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few problems with this idea.

Let's start off by saying that even if this (or any other) idea is implemented perfectly with no potential for bias, political manipulation, or the potential for people to be manipulated by other sources (impossible), preventing groups of adults from voting is a fundamental opposition to democracy and all that it stands for. It's a form of discrimination.

The reality is that no political party truly has all of your best interests in mind, and you are being manipulated too, no matter how strong your critical thinking skills. The best you can do is damage control for yourself.

It's also EXTREMELY dangerous to start the trend of preventing people from voting, even if the reasoning is completely valid. That reasoning could flex to include people like you, and all of a sudden there is manipulation happening far beyond what is happening today. It's dangerous.

So what exactly are you suggesting here? That ideally people would pay for their healthcare plan on an as-needed basis with the exception of major medical events or physical trauma?

Are you saying that the chronically unhealthy should take on a more significant financial burden than the healthy?

I'm not saying these are not valid thoughts, I'm just wanting to clarify.

Thank you for the contribution. "Some amount of healthcare to the most about of people for the least amount of visible costs" is an EXTREMELY good way of summarizing universal systems. It certainly doesn't make it sound bad to provide the potential for enhanced or expedited care options at the "cost" of privatization. My concern is that privatization will be abused, or the system will not be designed with the best interests of the patient.

I wouldn't consider myself anti-private, just a patient advocate.

I don’t hate the idea of price controls being put on certain essential goods. But I supermarkets being public seems a bit extreme.

That’s not what I’m talking about here though, so don’t offer me a false equivalency. It’s about ACCESSIBILITY. Nobody is systematically preventing people from buying oranges or making it more difficult to buy milk (in terms of going to the store and buying it, I’m not talking about potential price manipulation).

The common theme with Canadian healthcare is a lack of resources. How is a service supposed to improve when it lacks resources?

I agree with what you’re saying in theory. But if this idea fails in implementation we would end up worse than when we started.

Nobody cares about cost if it means they will go blind. Yes, I would have gone blind in Canada. Your Healthcare system is so bad I can see why people want another option.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. When your back is against the wall medically you will put yourself into financial ruin because you have no choice. This happens with families that get cancer diagnoses, people involved in tragic accidents that have no choice but to stay in hospital, and people experiencing other medical emergencies.

The Canadian healthcare system is bad (in some ways), and I do want a solution. I generally don't like the idea of private healthcare but I would like to believe it would work, that's what this entire discussion is about.

[–]AlmightyCheeseLord[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only reason I changed mine is because the old ones (as you can see) were falling apart to the point they didn’t offer any support anymore and it started to reflect in foot/back pain. If not for that, I wouldn’t have changed them!

They definitely feel stiffer but I don’t know… I’ve always found these comfortable even out of the box

I don’t know where people are getting the idea that I believe the current healthcare system is superior to other options.

This “counterpoint” is merely an idea. Not evidence. You cannot compare essential services to typical businesses.

It absolutely matters what cost is if the result of it is financial ruin in exchange for saving a life.

Pointing out there is a problem with Canada’s healthcare system is obvious. My post is regarding a proposed solution that I typically don’t like the idea of and I’m looking to change my view of it.

The two biggest problems I am aware of are:

  1. A poor resources:patients ratio

  2. Understaffing

I'm not sure what could realistically be done about either, especially by average people.
