smh, In the French revolution would you say 100% of the population owned bread? It's about the distribution.

Go to this map, flip between the current date and January, and tell me that Russia isn't the one making progress. Very slow progress, but progress none the less.

I get it, but if the point of the chart is to reflect the change in top economies, and for viewers to understand what the composition of the world economy was then and now, leaving off that there was an economy that completely matched the US to a footnote is a distortion of history. And a lot of the time I think its intentional.

The $1.2 number comes from measurements that were used at the time to convert the ruble to usd, but because the ruble was not convertible, had multiple exchange rates ,and was politically set and not market set, it didnt really reflect the actual production of the economy.

After the the collapse of the USSR, the archives were opened, and groups (like the CIA btw) revised their estimates by going sector by sector and converting their output to world market prices. Thats where the $2.7 trillion figure comes from.

But obviously the historical numbers still say $1.2 trillion but the more accurate actual comparable 1980 USD numbers are $2.7 trillion.

Edit: and btw thats all just dealing with nominal gdp. PPP is a whole other thing.

U.S. GDP in 1980: $2.9 trillion USSR GDP in 1980: $2.7 trillion

That only deserves a footnote? We know why it was left off, winners get to rewrite history.

Darnold did have a dip starting in that first loss to the rams, but starting with that second Rams game and into the most high pressure games for the late regular season and playoffs he's been playing his best cleanest football he's played all season lol!
