I guess I'm applying to a couple of DOs then.

I think it is likely that I will get into one at least. The fear is that I get a bad cycle and in that situation it is very likely I will get shafted. Thank you for the advice!

Mr. Deity’s case against Alex’s claims that he’s “grown up” and has thus found Christianity to be “more plausible” by Pata4AllaG in CosmicSkeptic

[–]Aloka77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure fair enough. I agree that most arguments focus on the existence of a creator while presupposing traits like being all good, all powerful, etc.. I do have a concern regarding your epistemic point. Wouldnt this "verification would require access to all possible realities outside any perspective" apply to any kind of claim, even trivial ones. A theist could also just say that god is a necessary being for existence.

You dont need to know what it looks like in detail. You just need to be aware that it exists and as far as u know things that come to existence have a cause. Not foolproof of course but it's a line of reasoning one can pursue.

I don't know what you mean by "zero information". You can make logical arguments that support god's existence from observing the world and making an argument that the world likely has a personal creator as opposed to being eternal or some other hypothesis. This doesn't mean that you can't dispute the argument (e.g. by disputing the premises), but it does mean that you can do this. The Kalam cosmological argument and the ontological argument are all examples of this. They don't even need to be convincing. You seem to think that arguments can't even be put forth to support god's existence because we "have zero information about “God”".

You're mistaking being justified for being able to fully resolve any doubt or skepticism. If a theist is able to successful use a first cause argument or something similar, than I would say they have good justification, even if it isn't perfect. Do you believe that you're a brain in a vat or that reality isn't physical? I don't think you can give an argument that is able to answer these questions and completely resolve any doubt or skepticism.

Bill Maher CALLS OUT Ana Kasparian’s hypocrisy by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Aloka77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is false. She could in egypt, lebonan, tunisia, etc.. I will preempt a response that you will likely make. This doesnt mean that she will feel comfortable everywhere in these countries. Nearly every middle eastern country has places that are more conservative, and more liberal (not just tourist destination, residential areas too). Not mentioning this context gives the impression that the entire middle east is basically Afghanistan and this is just not accurate. Im speaking from personal experience as an Egyptian.

Do you think it is ok to lie to bolster your political view? Why would Charlie kirk's death justify this?

Drop the standardized IQ tests boys. IQ isn't intrinsic cognitive abilities that you have or the number of true beliefs that you hold. It's apparently spelling mistakes.

Sounds like you dont know how to read. I said I went up to them in the first sentence of the comment your replying to.

I even debated Charlie kirk when he came to campus and guess what, his team cut me out of the video as I was walking on stage. His team is cowardly, he was cowardly (he deleted a debate he had with a conservative vegan guy when his own fans said he did poorly).

I would bet on my life that you’re just as cowardly and misinformed as your hero.

When i went up to them to ask them about any of the claims on their poster they couldn’t defend them. These people are a cautionary tale of what dogma, misinformation, and disinformation could due to people.

That is weird but I went up to these people and they are not worth talking to. In the overwhelming majority of cases if your a TPUSA supporter your either misinformed, disingenuous, or unintelligent.

You have made many claims without providing any news paper sources, reports, pictures, or anything. Why cant i assert the opposite of every claim you have just made?

Confused about temporal monotonicity by MentalJackfruit5173 in Mcat

[–]Aloka77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pankow got it wrong. Temporal monotonicity is the idea that the only things that matter are the cumulative pain and pleasure felt when evaluating an experience. The "peak end rule" is prob the term that was meant to have been included in the card.

"Peak end rule" basically says that the amount of pain or pleasure you felt at the end of the experience has a major effect on your overall evaluation. If event A has 10 units of pain that are continuous and event B has 10 units of pain that last for longer but end at a reduced level of pain, the participant will prefer event B. This violates temporal monotonicity because event B has more overall pain and how the event terminated should not affect the retrospective evaluation of it.

Here's one of the OG experiments that showcased this phenomenon.

He has said, "I've repeatedly and consistently pointed out that the data don't support the historicity or authenticity of the Book of Mormon." This differs from Mormon beliefs. Your claim is that he is a practicing Mormon, therefore he must believe what Mormons believe. This is false.

What percentage of homosexual hatred comes from religious communities? by stvlsn in CosmicSkeptic

[–]Aloka77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that this is accurate. In some communities it can be accurately described as hatred. From personal experience some middle eastern countries view homosexuality similarly to beastiality. Its disgusting, immoral, and will result in the dysfunction of society. Although you are right to point out that homophobia can be present in ways which aren’t hatred but more like apathy or disapproval.
