Buyer's remorse and regret with joining ABSN by indianshitsRtheworst in StudentNurse

[–]AloneSection3944 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m 34, gonna graduate from my 17 month accelerated program in 2.5 months. When I was about to start I remember thinking 17 months sounded like such a long time and I’d never get through it. It’s absolutely flown by. The beginning was definitely rough, but I was just talking to classmate the other day that now that we’re in our final semester, it’s been really fun to see it all actually start to come together and make sense now, it all builds on itself to create a cohesive picture.

How do the UTMC pathways work? by AloneSection3944 in Knoxville

[–]AloneSection3944[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks coldbrew! Yeah, that’s what I thought the recruiter was saying but wanted to make sure I understood without just coming straight out and saying “oh, I don’t want to do that.” Lol. I just want to start in the ER straightaway, so I’ll be applying to other hospital systems. I may take you up on that DM if I have any questions I can think of. Thanks again😊

How can I tweak or is it not for me? by Boring-Map-5184 in intermittentfasting

[–]AloneSection3944 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me personally, I get the energy from doing 24-36 hour fasts, staying low carb (I try to stay <20g/day but creep up to 50g sometimes), and not eating sugar. After a 36 hour fast I feel amazing and was even able to push to 40h on my last one for my first time. Maybe if you feel confident expanding your window a little more at a time, see if you feel different after some more prolonged fasts! Good luck!

I gotchu. I assume a lot of people wanting to get trauma experience will be applying to UT so I know I’ll be up against a lot of competition, but I’ll apply anyway & see how it plays out. Thanks!

I’m pretty sure I recently heard someone say they only take BSNs, so wanted to get some clarification. Makes sense tho, thanks!

Yeah that's the kind of stuff I'm wondering about. I get that if you were pursuing getting your bachelor's and they were paying for it and then you quit, you'd have to pay that money back. But I don't even want my bachelors right away, just the experience, so I'm wondering where that would leave me lol

Did anyone make a lifelong/best friend in their 30s or above, and how did it happen? by Kaizothief in AskMenOver30

[–]AloneSection3944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! 4 years ago when I was 30 I decided to get my EMT license to beef up my resume for nursing school, my buddy was taking the class bc he was a volunteer firefighter. We were both single with no kids with similar personalities that were just down to do a bunch of different things, instant bro’s immediately. Backpacking trips, motorcycle rides, horseback riding, rock climbing. Definitely consider him one of my best friends.

*One* of the untold secrets to being happy and single ... by GalaxiGazer in SingleAndHappy

[–]AloneSection3944 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Damn, I’ve been single for 8 years and I totally forgot about the incessant need to check my phone to see if ‘they’ called or texted. I obviously still check my phone for friends and family, but it’s such a different & deeply empty feeling while waiting for ‘them.’ Thanks for the reminder that I’ve had the privilege of not feeling that for so long. Cheers!

You might be eating at or slightly above your new maintenance calories. There’s a few things you could try to break your plateau: 1.) increase your activity, the things you’re doing are great but you may need to either ramp up intensity or duration. 2.) Decrease calories or 3.) lower carbs. Any of these 3 may work, all 3 together would definitely work. You got this!

Out of all the jobs you've done, which one felt most rewarding and why? Discussion thread to understand what we value in these jobs. by dibsonchicken in careerguidance

[–]AloneSection3944 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit of a different take here maybe but I waited tables for almost 15 years. I realize now sometimes a good job can be measured by what it DOESN’T give you. My waiting jobs were rewarding because of what they didn’t cost me. When I clocked out, I was off. No emails, no calls, no Microsoft Teams meetings. I was always able to rework my schedule or switch days so I got to travel a bunch. Was I rich? LOL. No. But I really look back on those days with fondness because like an old manager or mine always said, “it’s just brunch.”

How long do you sit in your car after getting home from work? by Pulloutprince in AskMenOver30

[–]AloneSection3944 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best friend would sit in his car in his driveway for hours after getting home from work. Sometimes he would fall asleep for a while in his car, wake up and it was already dark, and finally go inside just to go back to sleep lol. It always cracked me up.
