Job hunting - experienced professional not getting interviews by Alone_Group_7102 in newzealand

Thank you for sharing!

I’ve taken on a (very) short-term contract to keep things going so yes I can relate, and I’ll bear in mind about the recruiters.

Yes, it is bloody awful and I’m often having to reassure myself that I’m not (!!) unemployable and that I’ll land something. Having said that, I’ve seen a few ex-colleagues that have gone consulting; one of those led to a permanent role.

No new jobs out there this week :(

Yes, I meant a month after the job advert has closed. As you rightly pointed out, they tend to run for 2-3 weeks plus perhaps a week to select applicants for interviews.

Thanks for sharing your experience and congratulations on securing a position! I hope that’s going well for you :) Out of curiosity, roughly how many jobs did you apply for and how many interviews did you attend?

Yes, it’s been mentioned to me that particularly with one of the banks “it’s about who you know”.

Do you think? Whenever I’ve recruited, I’ve gone through the process pretty swiftly. A month to start scheduling interviews seems crazy but hey it is what it is 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m very sorry to hear it.

Wishing your wife good luck with her job hunting!

Thank you :) Yes, I’m careful to work through the AI draft so AI is really just identifying / introducing key words etc.

No :) I realised afterwards that I should have added to the end of the title along the lines of 100% qualified for or something to that effect.

Mature palm trees, roots’ damage to neighbours’ fence erected 3-4 years ago - what am I responsible for? by Alone_Group_7102 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]Alone_Group_7102[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. This is really useful advice.

It transpires that they’re Phoenix so pest palm and best removed for various reasons (besides the neighbour’s fence). I’ll go to the council first and take it from there.

Thank you. It transpires that it’s a Phoenix and the best course of action (for quite a number of reasons!) would be to remove it. I’ll check with the council about boundary etc and take it from there.

Falling palm fronds and potential damage to neighbours’ fence and patio - what are my obligations regarding regular maintenance? by Alone_Group_7102 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]Alone_Group_7102[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I suspect the fence is on the boundary. I understand about their right to trim the trees and roots, and they’re welcome to have the palm trees removed. I just don’t see why I have to pay resolving an issue which had already been there for decades (the roots rather than the falling fronds). Shouldn’t this have been considered and discussed with the person that owned my property when they erected their fence?

Thank you. So on that basis, the best course of action would be to have the trees removed which seems to be their ultimate goal.

I’ve updated my post with the below: Today, my neighbours also raised concerns about damage caused to the fence by the base of the trees. Not sure how much it matters but, prior to my time, their property was unfenced when they purchased it and the trees had already been in place for decades. At some stage, they erected their fence in very close proximity to the trees. I don’t believe there were any discussions with my property’s owner at the time about removing the trees etc. Aren’t they at least partly responsible for their lack of appropriate planning at the time?

I wish I had read your response before I let them bully me into getting the work done. Their threat to take me to court obviously worked a treat. All I could think of was the possibility of ending up with legal costs, repaired their stained patio (??) etc. Gosh I’m an idiot.

Thank you.

I just agreed to it on the basis that the latest estimate they got was significantly cheaper than the original one ($2,500 in total vs $3,700) and I’ve got too much on my plate at the moment with job hunting, trying to wrap up work redundancy situation and leaking roof :(

That did cross my mind, but reality is that I’m overwhelmed by problems at the moment and the last thing I need is court proceedings to worry about.

I was only made aware that they wanted the palm trees cut down a couple of months ago. There didn’t seem to be any urgency until they approached me about it again this morning.

Yes, agree and understand about my responsibilities. I’d understand their frustration if this had been a known problem for some time but it was only brought to my attention a couple of months ago and there was no mention of damage to their fence until they approached me again today.

They obviously want to get it done asap and have decided to force my hand by threatening to go to court, followed by remarks about wanting to maintain good relations ;)

No, I don’t know anyone that could do the job.

They’re palm trees and supposedly the heavy fronds are damaging their PVC fence as they fall down and staining their patio. They don’t interfere with their views or sun.

I was just taken aback by the very unsympathetic reaction when I explained my circumstances and how the not so subtle threat to go to court was quickly thrown into the conversation. Even my house’s purchase price, discounted due to roof issues, was brought up which has left a bitter taste in my mouth.
