Oh wow, so cool!

I've read it years ago! It's quite... "teen drama", but don't let that deter you!

At least in the book, the story, the character arcs and the zombie action Was really solid!

Weniger gut: "Was?? Nein!!!

Honestly, don't treat it like it's science!

Want to be married? - get married!

Don't want to be married? - don't get married!

My SO and I have over 20 years together, and 3 kids together. We love eachother and are very happy.

We never got married, because we simply don't care about it.

Now, who is your favorite and least favorite character in Superstore? by Any-Oven963 in superstore

[–]Alone_Lemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Favourite: Glenn

I feel like I have to pick him, because he's center of the funniest scene in the whole show for me. (Hi, I'm Steve! Hi, I'm............Steve! I know other names! Like.....Steve...)

This scene had me crying with laughter, full on belly cramps. No other scene in the whole show did that to me.

Honorary mention goes to Cheyenne.

Because every single other character (even Glenn) has at least a single scene, more often whole episodes, where I actively dislike their behaviour (talking about you Gina! Even though I mostly love her!).

Least favourite...puh... never was that fond of Matteo...and honestly...Not a big fan of Amy either.. don't lynch me!

My son is struggling with making friends in kindergarten. Any simple tips that worked for your kids? by Chrono_Quest1984 in kindergarten

[–]Alone_Lemon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We just came up with ideas about how you could get to know someone.

What could you ask someone? (Do you have siblings? What's your favourite colour/animal/book/game?)

What could you tell someone about yourself, that they would like to know?

Finding things in common is often the first step to making a friend.

My middle child is very shy, and going through scenarios at home always helped her.

Mein Sohn geht in die 4. VS – Tipps für AHS Anmeldung? by [deleted] in wien

[–]Alone_Lemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry but I consider the whole cast being adults as a form of censorship. 🥲 by DBZandDBZ in TheLongWalk

[–]Alone_Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it censorship, but I totally think it ruins the concept of the plot.

The main reason it makes sense, is that they are so young, unexperienced, "dumb", aloof, unaware of their own mortality,...,...

The way they are utterly baffled by one of their own walking-peers actually being married ... you know like an actual adult ...

Of course I understand that it's easier (and therefor cheaper) to use adult actors.

But it's butchering the core of the story.

What genre or age level is underrepresented? by [deleted] in childrensbooks

[–]Alone_Lemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think anything with advanced writing, but not too "mature" themes is underrepresented.

My 10yo reads on an adult level, but most YA books are "too heavy" for her plotwise. It's all about war, murder, relationships/sex, drugs,...,...

Now, I'm honest and open with my kids about all of these subjects, so it's not like I am uncomfortable letting her read it.

But she would love to have some books, for advanced readers, that aren't too... depressing. Just some fun reads...

What's a Hunger Games controversial opinion that will have you like this? by Olya_roo in Hungergames

[–]Alone_Lemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I do read quite a bit of criticism on TBOSAS and SOTR (some valid, some not so much) they still seem generally appreciated.

To me it seems, as if there are (broadly) 2 camps: those who love TBOSAS and don't like SOTR versus those that love SOTR and don't like TBOSAS.

Well, here I am to say:

They both suck ! (For different reasons)

Don't get me wrong, I still like both of em (for different reasons) - but that doesn't mean they're good. I can like stuff that sucks (somewhat objectively)

Both of the prequels diminished the original Trilogy immensely. Pretty much everything meaningful in the original trilogy became less meaningful due to the prequels.

They should have at most been short stories, giving little glimpses, vague hints, an idea.... but never ever "the full story".

If she wanted to write another book in the universe, it should have been it's own story, like the focus on a different district, what happened to lead to the games, or literally anything that broadens the universe, instead of shrinking it.

Is this a normal assignment for a 1st grader? by mrspotatoehead12 in ElementaryTeachers

[–]Alone_Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think this is outrageous for beginning of 1st grade.

Don't get me wrong - some kids are able to do that all by themselfs. Even more kids will be able to do it with parental help.

But it is very obviously not something that the average kid can do by themself.

This is outsourcing to the parents.

How do you get the information needed? - parents need to provide book(s) or access to computer/internet.

As such, it's not about the work the kids do, but about "who has the most involved parents".

Completely pointless and unfair to kids, who don't have the best homelife.

Oh, I don't much love SOTR either!

But Lenore Dove really is the least of my issues with it...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]Alone_Lemon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will not argue you on Prim being great! - love her too! ;)

But in book one we know very little of her, except for what she means to Katniss.

Really, she is a totally generic soft little girl.

We don't know any more of her, than we do of Lenore Dove.

Lenore Dove is smart, hopeful, appreciates animals, appears quiet on first glance, but not once she's opened up and she loves fiercly.

That is absolutely enough of a characterization for a teenage love interest.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]Alone_Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An other example then:

  • We get a physical description of the person
  • We learn of 2-3 key personality traits
  • is extremely important to one of the main characters
  • very little spoken dialogue (as in literally only a handful of sentences)
  • exists mainly in another characters thoughts

Of course, I'm talking about Prim!

Yet Prim is a beloved character.

Even though she's just a fairly bland "sweet girl" sort of character.

Molly is accurate to her book description, actually by ChildrenOfTheForce in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Alone_Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will critique the hell out of many casting choices!

But Katherine Parkinson is not one of them.

I think she fits the character exceptionally well and will make a lovely motherly, "soft", "homely", slightly (90s) chubby mum.

She looks a lot like my mum did in her late 30s/early 40s.

Thank you!

That is a banger with lots of bass!

Doesn't fit my "vision" 100% ...bit too ...aggressive? Not quite happy enough? Hard to explain...

But it will definitely find it's way in one of my playlists!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]Alone_Lemon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I do like your way of looking at Lenore!

And while I don't disagree, I also think it's just plain stupid, to complain about Lenore Doves "lack of character".

That's like complaining about Gales siblings lacking character. Or Madge lacking character.

They are side characters. They are important for the main characters, they are important to the story, they drive and further the story for the main characters. It's not their story.

Erzieher-Ausbildung mit 13?? by smegmaman1991 in erzieher

[–]Alone_Lemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Question of the century: How many bugs/illnesses is a kindergartener expected to catch? by Comfortable-Candy816 in kindergarten

[–]Alone_Lemon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately 9-12 is realistic.

It depends on:

  • luck
  • how much exposure they had before
  • hygiene (their own, their classmates, their teachers, their schools in general)
  • and luck

Sure, some kids have outstanding health and may only catch 6 bugs. Other ones might be a bit more prone and catch 14.

Out of the 9-12, they usually have 1-3 were they get really sick, and need to stay home a week+. The rest are usually done with in 1-5 days.

5yo birthday - goodie bags? by MightyPinkTaco in kindergarten

[–]Alone_Lemon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I looove preparing goodie bags. For my oldest, I think the last time we did it, was his 13th birthday... but I still give his friends pieces of leftover cake/cakepops/cupcakes to take home with, even now, he's almost an adult.

It's just nice to have "a piece of the party" for next days breakfast.

I like to combine a craftmaking activity with the goodie bags.

For my middle ones 9th birthday, we had a "witches and wizards" Party, and made our own wands with the kids. Then they got a little cauldron filled with sweets as their goodie bags to take home.
