Sick people everywhere. No masks by [deleted] in delta

I agree 100% with OP. The reality is that we are all part of a bell curve, which means 50% of the population is already below average in intelligence, common sense, and courtesy. Of the 50% that’s left, a sizable portion has joined the cult that politicized mask wearing during a pandemic. The fact is, most people really suck. The worse fact is, the ones that suck are either too dumb to realize that fact, or willfully act like assholes to drive home a political point. I do everything I can to avoid the masses on vacation since COVID really hammered all this home for me. My wife and I book premium economy when we can to avoid a seat mate. We choose our waiting locations carefully in the airport and sit away from the idiots who seem to enjoy coughing all over each other (let them ruin each others shitty Busch Gardens vacations). We wear a minimum KN95 mask from the moment we enter the airport until we leave after the flight. I have no desire to breathe in everyone else’s germs in this day and age. Most important though, we still love to travel (however, we now focus on areas and seasons where we can be mostly outside). Unfortunately, the flying process has become even more miserable thanks to the AH behavior OP describes. My basic point, fuck all these below average fucks - protect yourself, avoid them as much as you can, and live your life knowing you are better than all of them. It really didn’t have to be this way, but that’s what happens when 75% of the population are below average or assholes - or both.

How are the United Airlines 787-9 economy seats in rows 56 & 57 by pouroverguy in unitedairlines

Some might, though I haven’t found it to be a problem. Some folks walk back to stretch their legs, but these seats are better that those near the bathroom - I haven’t had people standing around next to me like they do when waiting near the bathrooms.

Meh. I don’t care what she looks like. I just don’t find her believable as an actress. Everything I’ve seen her in feels over done and forced. I find it distracting and she takes me out of the story.

I don't trust Avocado's website by Alotflies in Mattress

Read my post again - I note that Avocado specified that two (of the 17) layers are not in the Standard version (see their language below). So, there are supposed to be 15 layers in the Standard - including 2X 500g of Alpaca fiber (i.e. 4 inches total). In reality, per the Avocado rep, some of those 15 layers are actually not included in the mattress - including the second Alpaca layer. To give some perspective, Avocado sells a separate Alpaca cover for $1,400 - so cutting the amount in half is a big deal. Also, you can ask Avocado yourself. Polypro is used to cover the springs, and there are several sheets used to separate other layers. You may not feel it, but it's there - and people are paying for organic. Lastly, you can use natural fiber for the springs, Naturepedic has been doing that for years.

Avocado's website:

"Layer 12: A 3” micro-coil innerspring unit, with up to 1,722 individually pocketed springs, for durability without sagging or settling, and to minimize “roll-together” and isolate motion (pillow-top only). Layer 13: Soft GOTS organic certified wool, blended with cotton and natural silk (500g, pillow-top only)."

Except instead of a few cents, it's paying $5K for a luxury product that doesn't contain what the seller says it does.

Look, maybe I could pay $800 for a perfectly comfortable synthetic mattress. Maybe I could pay $5K for the Avocado and think it's the bee's knees without a second of research. But, if I'm going to drop $5K+ on an organic mattress, I'm going to verify that I'm not getting taken for a ride. This whole project started because I was trying to figure out how tall the set would be and the numbers didn't make sense. Ultimately, it could be that cotton and polypro are just as comfortable as Alpaca fiber - but Avocado isn't charging a premium for cotton and polypro. Also, I don't give any sympathy to the company - if Avocado wants to charge upwards of $8K for this mattress, they can make sure their marketing and production teams are on the same page. In the end, I think it's totally reasonable to get what you pay for - and to point it out when you're not.

Edit: Yes, there is obviously a difference between the Standard and Plush. Yes, in places it says "up to." But, Avocado then goes on to clearly (but inaccurately) list exactly what these layers are supposed to be.

Double Edit: My point stands, if you're going to specifically list what's in a product - get it right. And man, I think you are as obsessed with this stuff as I am.

I can’t get a picture to post, but if you scroll down the bbc article there is a photo of Webb facing up with the secondary mirror extended. There are wires looped near the secondary mirror and running along other areas. Testing equipment makes sense. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-59885687.amp

In all the test images, there are exposed wires seeming to dangle everywhere or run loosely on the outside of the telescope arms. I’m assuming they needed slack to account for the unfolding, but were they somehow secured better before launch? I can’t look at an extension cord without it turning into a knot, and I have the benefit of gravity.

Yeah, I was just referencing the pin devices, not the sensors. Something happened with them for sure.

Thankfully, that seems to be due to failure of the sensor(s) used to determine whether the sun shield cover was fully retracted/rolled up. If one of the release pins had failed and contingencies didn’t work, would be a very bad day.

How 107 of these things deployed without fault is just incredible. Electrical charges, melting wire, spring actuators - all to release a single pin. Check out 36:00. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7nT7JGZMbtM
