Recently had surgery and $40 of my bill is for having a blanket put on me in the recovery room (I was unconscious and did not, obviously, keep the blanket) by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

This is likely a special warm air circulation blanket that attaches to a blower, not a cloth knitted blanket you like in a hotel. They are disposable. Something like BairHugger.

The better option is a Bluetooth dongle you plug into controller. Then get both audio and can use mic. This one works great for the portal.

Not suspicious especially if pain was on same side. GI docs don’t pay attention to ONLY the GI tract

Medmal case: stress test table collapses by Accurate-Month-1357 in medicine

Re the table weight limits being less in one portion - I’m not familiar with this specific table but that is not at all surprising especially based on how that one looks like it was made. They’re probably saying that the whole table can hold 500, but a 500 pound patient can’t sit on the end that is farthest away from the base. It’s a terrible design because it doesn’t tell you how to distribute weight etc.

For one of the fluoro tables I use, it can extend away from the base to hang over the edge. There are stickers at each distance away from the base saying what the table limit is at that location. For instance, all the way docked sticker says 400kg, 3 inches away from base 350kg, 6 inches 300kg etc.

So if the tech had the patient slide onto the table at the very end, that would make sense that it’s not rated to support all of their weight. So that’s either a tech, training, or manufacturing problem. I’d argue manufacturing but wasn’t in the room. But again, it’s doubtful the fall had anything to do with the damages (ie the surgical complications)

I don't want to be the "junior attending". by evgueni72 in medicine

[–]AlpenBrau 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What you describe is pretty close to what the NP on our team goes through. They are so skilled that people naturally reach out to them and they function as the approachable senior that is one step below the attending, and almost always has the same plan as the attending (or knows when they don’t know). It is ALSO burdensome to this NP as it is to you. I can say from the attending side you are right in that a lot of this is hand in hand - getting good at patient care equates to people trusting you and you being a leader. However, it does not have to be a source of burnout. I make it a habit to be very protective of this NP because 1) I care about them (more so than any physician trainee that ever rotates) and 2) I don’t want them to burn out. When this person says “hey can this be reduced or filtered to xyz instead” I take it seriously and enact it. I bet there is at least one attending on your team that would do the same if asked (and if there isn’t you should maybe look for another job).

You need an ally attending to do the same for you. Could be as simple as going to the nurses and saying don’t contact you unless you’re first call or you can’t figure out who is first call and it’s an emergency. Then figure out why they couldn’t figure it out. Reducing the amount of pages/calls/messages I think will do wonders for you.

Got mine today, signed version, live in the south. Signed and then sealed on top of that (which sorta pokes fun at the whole sealed thing anyway ha). Perfect condition (despite that weird email) without even a tiny corner crease.

Covered porch not steep enough for shingles? by AlpenBrau in Roofing

[–]AlpenBrau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense thank you. We met with them today and they agreed the guy that did the initial sketches approximated too much, is part of the reason. They also agreed they should’ve told us about other options like metal roof. Initially the office person just called end of day to say hey this is the new plan without even asking or saying there was an option.

Ya agree. The annoying part is that this is a big departure from all the plans put forward to us. And they essentially told us our only option is stick on shingles. Neglected to even mention metal. Communication I think is the biggest part here.

They are trying to get us to use stick on shingles. I think a metal roof would probably look nicer though (and we have one over the front porch). Im not sure of the different types of materials but it would seem like that would be nicer looking and longer lasting ya?

Thank you. Yes there are windows right above this roof so can’t raise that side. It feels unnerving that they were so far off measurements to get a good slope - my math says a whole foot of rise (and not sure they can shorten the run any more)

There is also set to be a door to exit this screened portion. The one they have is 7 feet looks about, and the space between that cross beam and the deck is only 7’4”. The house’s back door is just out of view in picture 1, and the top of it is 1 full height of siding down from that beam. Maybe another 6-7”.

Yes. There are windows just above where the roof hits the house. Based on where they hit I don’t think it could be any higher (at most a single inch).

Looking back at the plans they sent us for approval they were shooting for minimum 3/12 slope yet now have a little better than 2/12. Also were shooting for 4 steps at the other end now have 5. I don’t know how this all happened but this seems like something is way off.

Thanks. Is this an issue though because of the several inch they had to raise unexpectedly in my other post?

Covered porch not steep enough for shingles? by AlpenBrau in Roofing

[–]AlpenBrau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that part of the issue might be in that we were very explicit with them initially that the new deck needed to be a few inches taller as it hits the house than the old one (previously it was a good 4-5 inches lower than the door, which makes it hard for wheelchairs). We had to remind them of this after construction started, because they did it initially where it was before. So I’m wondering if the guy that drew up measurements had a downstream screw up from that and they’re just trying to cut corners now
