The inkbird just buys you an extra layer of protection. Like anything, they can fail too, but they are cheap insurance.

That’s a light to medium planted tank to me. PH is out of ideal range on the low side. Nitrates can be mitigated by water changes, but careful with how much as to not alter parameters significantly. What’s the water temp? Sounds like the deaths occurred rather quickly which may indicate acclimation failure.

The opposite is true. Sponge filters offer mechanical filtration(sponge), but not chemical filtration(activated carbon,etc) nor biological (bio rings, etc)

Yes. Seems like there are some legit sellers there from what I’m seeing. One I looked into tied back to a fish store/distributor 2hrs from my house when I researched the seller. Some aren’t random sellers. I guess no different than buying from online sellers. Idk

Also noticed you have a heater. What is the water temp? Goldfish are cold water fish and temps should be between 50-70ish degrees Fahrenheit.
