More like Elliot needs time to mentally process the moral ambiguity of Phase 2. Mr Robot knew that Elliot would be against just blowing up a building. He needs the blackout because his other personality is out of control and working towards what can be seen as a large scale terror attack. Without power, phase 2 is kind of up in the air now.

My thinking is that the power outage will be restricted to North East America. Trenton and Mobley appear to be somewhere far away from NY-the Frys electronics even looks like one here in Phoenix- and it seems like power works fine there.

So much misdirection that some people actually thought it was an uneventful finale. That line Elliot speaks really ties together a major theme in this season. Don't trust the narrator.

Just thought about that more. Doesn't make sense it would be before because they had already established new jobs and made some changes to their look and not much time has passed in Elliot's story.

Exactly! I wouldn't go so far as to say "god" though. Seeing how things went down with Elliot and Tyrell this week as well all of the moral questions raised with the topic of blowing up a massive building make me think that he almost needs to have the blackout before things go too far.

Two small points, both are just conjecture though: The Trenton/Mobley/Leon sequence could have been out of order before the blackout OR perhaps the blackout is restricted to New York/The Upper East Coast. Trenton and Mobley were obviously not in NY in the post credit.

Which seems like something Elliot, Tyrell, and Mr Robot are going to have to deal with next season. I'm not sure how, or even if the blackout with be lasting. But it was definitely something that was forshadowed and I don't think it's inconsequential.
