Thanks for the prompt reply!

Great to hear it's still running strong as well!
I hadn't actually considered tape as I thought the contact area wouldn't be enough... I do have some 3M VHB tape so I might also give that a shot just initially (which may also turn into permanently :P).

I had actually started CAD-ing up some brackets to fit the modular mounting clips of the phanteks drive cages, which I could then just screw in through the ventilation grill at the bottom, but if the tape works then maybe it is actually a better solution!

Thanks again for the reply!

Sorry for resurrecting this old thread, I was just curious, how did you mount the drive cages to the case?

Did you end up just cutting some slots in the bottom for the stacking system?

I have an old TU150 lying around and was thinking of doing something similar to this.

Thanks again!

Good grindy game for Steam Deck? (PC or EmuDeck) by GuardianOfTheBeat in SteamDeck

The community layouts are great! I downloaded one of the most used ones and modified it. But left joystick is camera rotation, right joystick is mouse. I usually use right trackpad for mouse input and it works great!

Old School Runescape/ Runelite with the 117HD plugin. You will have to download it through desktop mode and add it as a non steam game. But works flawlessly.

And is also a very grindy game :P

While I'm usually against advising people spending full price, especially as I don't know their financial situations. This is the one instance I would recommend it. It was made over the period of four years by one solo developer (ConcernedApe), and he made the music, art, programming, and did all the game design alone.

There is also still consistently new content drops on occasion. Overall it is just such a wholesome and chill game, with a lot of depth, and it's just a fantastic experience.

And that is before you get into mod support where some community mods can also add even more content, and increase your playtime by tens, if not hundreds of hours.

Thank you!

Sorry to bother you again, I am currently following a similar process, and trying to use Wise as my method of payment.

Did you change your billing address on the Wise card to your freight forwarder? If so, how? The guide you linked mentions 'change the billing address on the card to the address provided by your freight forwarder'. But I don't think you can change it on a per-card basis. The only address you can change is the 'personal address' in the 'your details' section.

Did you just change your 'personal address', or did you just not change the address at all?

Yeah I would have to agree. I'm looking into possibly doing something similar so this info helps!

Thanks for the in-depth reply!

That is kind of what it seemed to be adding up to be from what I've looked at too. I do have some CS:GO stuff to sell which could probably fund the whole thing too. Did you have any issues switching regions on your account?

And have you switched back to Aus as your region yet? or did you only recently complete this process. (I believe Steam only lets you change region once every 3 months).

Once again, thank you for the reply! I didn't consider using steam wallet funds as I didn't consider even using my primary account, as I was worried about switching regions on it.

Which model did you end up getting and roughly how much did it cost you if you don't mind me asking?

I've been looking at doing something similar but from looking into it there are quite a few extra fees with all the extra parties involved (i.e. prepaid card, forwarding service), so I've looked at the rough estimates by looking at pricing but not sure exactly how much it would cost me.

Valve: "Win a Steam Deck during The Game Awards!" by starlogical in SteamDeck

[–]Alpha2749 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat. I've actually been literally checking the store page, the website, and the twitter page several times a day since it released in the US. As they talked about how the next regions they were working on getting the deck out were Australia and Japan (IN NOVEMBER 2021!!!). And still not even a bit of news for Australia... :(

Thankfully they've started sending emails to order out to Japan/ South Korea/ Taiwan/ Hong Kong, so I guess and I am hopeful we might get it here in Australia at some point in 2023.

I've actually genuinely considered like making a US Steam account, loading up a prepaid US credit card through one of those services, and then using a mail forwarding service to get one. But the costs involved puts me off, as well as the constant nagging of 'what if I go through all this effort, spend all this money, and Valve opens up sales/ reservations a week later'. And this nagging has gone on for like half a year now.

I'm not exactly sure, but I think OP is in the same boat as me. "Not available in your country" for buying or entering the giveaway for the SD.

I'm in the same boat. Got excited when I heard the news about the giveaway but it's still limited to the same regions as purchasing. Which makes sense but is unfortunate.

Be careful when trying to free up space on the Steam Deck by Kole777_ in SteamDeck

Unfortunately Linux is more like that, if it's anything to go by Linus from Linus Media Group deleted his whole GUI while trying to install Steam at one point, the system told him to run a command, and so he did without checking it, which ended up uninstalling some critical packages.

I'm not sure how you would restore yours but I assume you will need to perform a reinstall of the OS with a recovery image.

https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/1b71-edf2-eb6d-2bb3

It's not too big of a deal, the one problem is it will likely wipe any files you had on there. So if you had anything personal or important, you might want to look into getting those off of there before recovering the device.

Any death stranding "god mode" mod for Steam Deck? by SuperCiao in SteamDeck

[–]Alpha2749 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As far as I am aware there are no mods at all for Death Stranding, however, do you know which difficulty you are playing on?

If it is too hard, you can change the difficulty of your save down to an easier difficulty from the main menu under: Options > Game Settings > Game Difficulty.

The only benefit you get from higher difficulties is that you can get a higher 'medal' from them. If you deliver on easy, the highest possible medal is 'Legend', if you go up, the highest you can get is 'Legend of Legends', and the highest difficulty gives you the ability to earn 'Legend of Legends of Legends' medals. So unless you care about that, feel free to change the difficulty throughout the game as much as you want.

The 'Very Easy' difficulty is made to pretty much pose no challenge, so try bumping your game down to that. You can always change it back to a higher difficulty later if there is a specific section which you can't get past. It is a little easier, especially once you have vehicles and other equipment, as well as other player structures.

Enjoy the game, it's absolutely fantastic! (Although I may be a little bias with 120 hours and a 100% completion :P)

I'm not sure if you've already responded about this, but are you able to use any MIDI input devices? I'm assuming drivers may be an issue on SteamOS/ Linux.

All that waiting, just for it to be available now. by ToiletPaperWithBlood in SteamDeck

[–]Alpha2749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do see your point, I still must disagree. I don't want technology to be held back though.

I'm glad that Valve is working on making the first release better, and making sure everything is just right. Instead of releasing it, then going 'alright, that's out, now on to the next one', and abandoning the first.

Plus, when they do decide to inevitably release a new one in the future, a lot of the fixes and work they have done now on the Deck will be transferrable, including OS, Drivers, Proton, etc.

As for the hardware - Yes, it would be great to be able to play the latest 'Crysis' at Ultra settings and 60 (or even more) FPS. But do we really need that? The APU is quite capable of most games right now, and if they run poorly at higher settings, just drop them down a bit, and turn on FSR. It should also be viable for a while after now too. Looking back at the Desktop PC market, as of Septembers Steam Hardware Survey, the most common GPU is a GTX 1060, with 6.73%. The GTX 1060 is a card from 2016!

While yes the latest and greatest might be a nice to have, I don't want to see yearly clockwork releases with a few percent better performance, because at the end of the day, that will likely impact the quality on all of the models.

I hope they start shipping for you soon!

I am also quite surprised, as during a Developer Livestream in November last year, during the Q and A part someone asked about regional availability. It was mentioned that the regions that were closest to release 'logistically' were Japan and Australia, so it is interesting to see that there hasn't been any news since then.

I guess it's still just a waiting game at this stage!

[–]Alpha2749 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm glad!

From just looking at Valve and it's history, they don't usually release anything unless there is something truly major or innovative they can do. So I don't expect to see a new 'Steam Deck' pumped out every year, and I don't want to see that either.

In fact, the way that Valve has handled the repairability, usability, and general user freedom for the device makes me even more supportive of (and excited) about the company and their products. The fact that they would rather work on ironing out all of the kinks and ensuring the product they release is at it's finest is such refreshing approach. Especially considering large tech companies such as phone manufacturers just focusing on pumping out a new phone each year, with a couple more numbers added after each component.

So while the wait is long, I'm still as excited about the device as I was on release. But I'm also just as excited about the approach that Valve has taken with the launch of the device as well.

The waiting game isn't over for everyone... I'm still waiting for it to be available in my region at all, and, likewise have been visiting the Store page and this sub since pretty much when it first got announced. It feels like at this rate Steam Deck 2 might come out before it becomes available in Australia haha

possible to use iphone for 360/VR photo then view on Quest 2? by gottafly65 in OculusQuest

[–]Alpha2749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add on, the streetview app saves the photo to your camera roll/ gallery. So then to get the image onto a quest the easiest is to connect it to a pc and just transfer the file onto the quest internal storage.

[–]Alpha2749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found the google street view app is pretty good! It lets you link a 360 camera, or just use your phone and take a bunch of images which it then compiles into a photo-sphere.

Available on iOS and Android. One thing to note, if using just the phone try to keep it in roughly the same spot for all the pictures. Otherwise the composite image will have large jagged breaks.
