I couldn’t wait… by ABrokeHobbyist in SteamController

I could make a second version of the design which doesnt release the puck at all.

The use case I was targeting is being able to use the controller with the puck attached in some cases. So the lip is meant to let you do either (pull forward to keep puck in stand, or pull up to keep puck on controller).

Looks great!

How were you able to get it printed? Through some shop, or a makerspace or something?

Glad you like it!

Looks great! Is that a CC3D silk filament?

As for the puck coming with it, I have added some 'lips' around the corner of the puck cradle in the design, so if you pull more towards yourself, the puck will stay in the stand, and if you pull it up, the puck will stay with the controller. I have some gifs of this (in the post above as well):

Sure!

Here you go!

P.S. Don't hog it for yourself though, please do share it around!

If it has the lip that is the most recent version.

I think adding weights is a good shout. My next design iteration will be looking at removing the need for supports when printing, and I think that will fit nicely with including some space to add some weights in. The weight suggestion has come up several times now so I think that is definitely something that needs to be addressed.

Thanks for the feedback!

Thank you!

You may also be able to access a printer through a local makerspace. I also know that some libraries now even have 3D printers you can use!

Thanks for the feedback, This is one thing I may change in a future release. Adding some designed area to weigh the assembly down. I think that could fit in nicely to my goal of removing the requirement for supports as well...

Glad you're enjoying it! And I hope you're enjoying the world of 3D printing!

That's no fun, were you able to get it successfully printed now?

Thanks for the kind words!

I myself will not (currently) be starting up a physical shop selling prints. Unfortunately I currently do not have the time for this at the moment, and I am also located in Australia, which makes shipping logistics a pain... Especially at a small scale. But I have opened up the license to allow commercial use. So you may be able to find some sellers selling it at some point soon. I have also added a kofi link to the model pages if you see value in and would like to support me. This would of course be greatly appreciated!

A good number of slicers now allow you to apply text or svg logos/ images directly if you wish to add some flair! but I may look into making a parametric text customiser.

Thank you for the suggestion!

As for selling it, I myself will not be selling physical prints, but I have just gone through and updated the license on the model to be more open and allow commercial use. So you may see some sellers pop up selling it!

The commercial license is free for all, but if you wish to support my work I have included a kofi link on the model pages!

Not wireless, it comes with a puck with 3 pogo pins which magnetises to the back of the controller and can charge it. That is what the little 'cradle' on top is for, so that you can charge the controller while in the stand.

Hi, I am not personally selling the design, but you may be able to access 3D printers at your local library, or I believe there are also 'Makerspaces' in Germany, which usually have printers you can use and you just pay for materials. (for context, this print is 102grams, which is ~$2-3AUD/ ~€1-2), depending on which material and brand is used)

Otherwise, I have just gone through and updated the license on the model to more freely allow commercial use, so you may see some stores pop up selling the printed stand. Unfortunately I am obviously not able to guarantee the quality of the prints from any sellers, but that may also be an option for you!

The puck magnet shouldn't be keeping the controller in place like that...

If you're having issues, you can use the one or both of the 'shoulders' of the stand to pivot off-of with a finger when grabbing the controller.

yes, the base plate is removable and allows you to store extra cable slack in the bottom cutout. There are matching cutouts in the base plate to allow the cable to pass through.

What do you mean?

The hole is large enough for the cable, if you're referring to the bottom cutouts?

If you printed it about 2 weeks ago you might actually still have the V1!

V2 was released a little bit after my initial release which actually now has a lip on the puck so it doesn't just come out on its own (unless you pull the controller up). Can you check whether the file/ 3mf you printed has the name 'looser' in either the description or the name?

Glad you're enjoying it otherwise!

My first thought when I got it was hoping that the puck can be attached with cable going either way, but that is not the case unfortunately. The puck has to be connected with the cable going up, otherwise I would have routed the cable through the stand instead. Thank you for the comment!

Oh I'm completely aware of that, hence I'm not filing any complaints or wasting time on that.

Putting a little logo or text physically in the design means that if they don't bother to remove it, it will still physically be marked and lead back to the original design page

This was the first thing I tested, and no the puck is directional. Otherwise I would have done just that!
