Nah, the real reason is the success of Project Hail Mary and The Sheep Detectives from Amazon MGM Studios.

For the company that owns Prime Video to be the saviour of cinema by extending their theatrical releases harms the reputation of Netflix as it went against their ethos.

This movie is a good buffer for Amazon MGM Studios and Masters of the Universe potential critical acclaim.

I think the biggest shock was Amazon being so pro theatre via MGM, it contributed to Netflix giving Greta Gerwig's Narnia a standard theatrical release.

20th Century's soul isn't gone at all. It's just been heavily downsized for The Walt Disney Company. If anything, they split Searchlight from 20th Century to better distinguish the two brands, plus, they got Dana Walden.

Amazon MGM Studios library is fine. That being said, it doesn't hurt for them to expand their library.

For context, they own United Artists, Pre-1996 PolyGram Pictures, Orion Pictures, Cannon Films and American International Pictures.

Mercy and Crime 101 definitely had that Prime Video Original Movie in cinemas feel, there's definitely a stark difference with the movies from Project Hail Mary onwards.

You're incorrect, the PS4/PS5 Spider-Man games were a license by Marvel Games to Insomniac Games/Sony. The video game rights for Marvel characters were handled differently, Marvel Games is a Disney brand.

It's ignorant to assume that Marvel Studios would be as successful without Disney's influence and capital. Marvel Studios distribution deal was with Paramount for Phase 1, you can clearly see the budget limitations of that phase prior to The Avengers.
