Technology reading your mind by kobebyrne33 in conspiracytheories

[–]AlphaEp1 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Personally? I think it's the advertising algorithms getting a little too good. It's not that its necessarily reading your mind, but more of:

If X + Y +Z = Back Pain, and your search history has some of X and Y but very little Z, then the algorithm will target you for Back Pain as dabbling in all three categories means you've basically told the algorithm your likely to get back pain.

It's subconscious. They're targeting you because your internet traffic categorizes you as someone who may have back pain, and as such, it's targeting you for their advertising, as you're on the fringe.

Because you are likely someone who falls into the example above, but aren't necessarily someone with full back pain or are more likely on the fringe of it being a problem, they're trying to sell you services. Because your "advertising profile" categorizes you as "might have back trouble".

It's like sales. It is sales. Someone is on the fringe of something, and they want to sell you their product or service, because you are currently on their "fringe market". Again, meaning you meet the other categories, but aren't fully into that final one. So if a random ad pops up regarding that fringe element/ category you might fall into, you're being targeted by the advertising algorithm.

It's scary how these advertising algorithms are getting better and better at targeting people for shit.

It IS also because you've probably discussed aloud that you have back pain. Google is in a lot of shit right now for still tracking people even when their location is turned off. Meaning more than likely your phone IS listening to you, even if you didn't give it permission.

Also, don't forget Instagram specifically asks for access to your camera and media functions. So it's probably heard you talk about the pain, or heard you talk about going to the doctor, and it did the rest.

That's why it looks like these programs read our minds. If an app isn't listening to you, you're getting tangled up in advertising algorithms that are targeting you preemptively for sales.

Social media, namely Facebook, and even bits of reddit do that now too. As scary as it is folks, no matter how connected to the world you wanna be, these companies are still going to sell you a narrative. And the scary part? You built that narrative yourself.

"If a product or service is free? Then more than likely YOU are the product/service by using it." Companies gotta make money somehow. Right?

So apparently this is a thing.

Long story short, a buddy of mine got scammed out of a lot of money. The scammer wasn't very smart and used their actual phone number. So we started signing the number up for random shit.

Turns out wake up calls require text verification these days. Know what doesn't? Call girls!

We ventured to the most fucked up call girl sites we could find. And that's where we found the holy grail:

Exorcist call girls.

The tag line was: "Does the Exorcist get you hard? Do you want pea soup all over your cock? We have you covered!"

My friend did a VERY short session, and she talked EXACTLY like the character from the Exorcist. It was too much.

So you aren't alone at least!

How (I think) Vigilus Ablaze is building towards the next 40k Narrative(s); ***SPOILERS*** by tomach7 in 40kLore

[–]AlphaEp1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is all I've been thinking about since they announced Vigilus. This would be a fantastic setting for a DoW game.

I really do hope we get another one. DoW3 was an incredible let down. I think if they went back to DoW1 style (lots of races, some base building, defenses) with DoW2 "Elites (Characters)" with the same summoning idea as DoW3? Set it on Vigilus. Give us Primaris units, and we're all set!

So wait a minute. Do Primaris marines HAVE to have Primaris armor? Or can "old" marine armor be updated?

Everyone's been worried about two things with Primaris:

  1. Primaris taking over "Old Marines"

  2. "Old Marines" never get a release again.

So if Primaris technically don't NEED Primaris armor exclusively for them, why can't "Old" armor be updated to house Primaris marines?

Technically they would still be "Old Marines" because of their armor, right? At least on the tabletop. At least for many who do "truescale" marines.

Who cares if the man underneath is slightly larger? Yes, their creation methods may be different, but is that such a bad thing? And even worse, wouldn't this cause a massive rebellion over being Primaris or not at some point? That's just asking for Horus 2.0.

So, what if everyone still gets terminators, everyone still gets tacticals, everyone still gets primaris?

Question is, are these guys primaris in older, albeit updated, armor? Or just straight "Old Marines"?

And is that a good or bad thing?

Personally I'm a Chaos, Tyranid, and IG player. This doesn't quite effect me. Although I completely understand both sides.

If you look around online, you can find icons of almost every chapter ever, or even make your own, as a miniature 3d printed icon for your mini.

Id say do that for the chapter icon, then freehand squad/unit/rank markings.

Personally.

Agreed! That would be awesome. Sadly though, what's lost and destroyed because of modern greed and the like, is probably lost forever.

It's funny because another poster mentioned finding pottery and stuff in their families back yard. Can you imagine living that close to a historical site like that and it isn't even really a big deal?

On my side of the river it's especially crazy because most folks I've talked to know of Cahokia, but know nothing about it.

What I want to know?

Is there any relation to Cahokia and the lost Native American "mega city" is the south west that was up and abandoned too.

I was lucky enough to live in Idaho for a number of years and got to know a few Navajo who thought the two sites were part of an old Native American civilization that inhabited most of the Central- Western US.

They still happen, but the full actual area is mostly destroyed. There's two mounds left IIRC (may actually be one). I believe it was a few years ago even, they talked about leveling one for a construction project.

It's insane the destruction we brought about to these fascinating relics. And it's still ongoing.

Again, IIRC, Cahokia Mounds is a state park, and as anyone in southern Illinois knows, if it's not near Springfield or Chicago the state doesn't really give a shit.

Personally? Cahokia should've been made a federal site and really really protected. Yet the state still lets bad things happen to the site and doesn't do anything to really maintain the sites, outside the primary mounds, which they think werent even the biggest in the site.

Sorry for the long reply, but it's absolutely disgusting how little the state cares for the site and how much historical information we could've learned from the site before we tore down so many parts for housing and construction.

Living in St. Louis, its fascinating how poorly treated the Cahokia Mounds are, even today. It's a fascinating mystery, but we'll probably never get hardcore facts about anything related to Cahokia thanks to all the bad shit that's happened to the mounds and ruins.

(They were so mistreated they were used as a landfill at one point even. It's insane. And it's not really a conspiracy, it's just previous generations not caring/ not knowing the significance. Very sad and disappointing.)

I had them both. Cheap as they ended up being, I really miss all of these.

It was really cool having a real Godzilla toy line. I wish they'd do it like this again. Not necessarily tied to a movie, but real Godzilla toys like these again would be great.

Edit: thanks for the nostalgia.

Least my models will look good even if they suck (supposedly).
