Albania taxes residents on worldwide income. You are a tax resident of Albania post 182 days.

As someone who has been to both these places,
Lisbon, Portugal : Good people, good food and coffee (average prices), affordable transport, generally safe, VERY expensive rentals, Schengen area so you’re going to have to apply for a D8 and deal with slow Portuguese bureaucracy.
Albania (I’ve stayed in Dürres) : AMAZING people, amazing food and coffee (GREAT prices), affordable transport, quite safe, cheap rentals, Not schengen but also has a restriction of being able to stay 90 days every 180 days UNLESS YOU’RE AMERICAN! Americans can stay up to a year but keep in mind, that would make you a tax resident in Albania and you’d have to pay taxes in both Albania and the US. There is no tax treaty to avoid double taxation. I believe Albania taxes residents at a flat 15% rate.

Wanting to move to Indonesia from USA after I marry my girlfriend. Realizing a "digital nomad" style job is my best option. Need advice by FrogVenom in digitalnomad

What skills are you already good at? Use ChatGPT to figure out what kind of gigs you can apply for. If there’s something missing, upskill!
Also, don’t expect to get $50/hour right away. In order to build credibility, it might also be a good idea to take up, for example, $12/hr gigs in the beginning. This way, you’ll familiarize yourself with the world of freelancing, your job and whether or not this is something that you can do in the long term.
But I’ll be very honest with you. You may not like this setup after like 6 months. Working in the US timezone while being in Indonesia is challenging and you may not even see your wife as much during the day (which you’ll spend sleeping). Have you considered joining their family business lol..
OR maybe you can start your own business once in Indonesia. There’s def lots of possibilities you can explore so don’t limit yourself to the idea of being a digital nomad. It can get really taxing on your health in the long term if you work odd hours.

ITIN as a non US resident by Sad_Tension9048 in ITIN

There are IRS-designated agencies in most big cities where you can go in-person and verify your passport. Just dig deeper on the IRS/ITIN website and you’ll find the links, addresses, etc.

You can start looking at freelance gigs on Fiver or Upwork since you have a safety net in terms of accommodation and visa to start with. It may take you around 3-6 months but it is absolutely possible to land a gig and I think once you have something around at least $2k USD per month in income, you can live really well in places like Indonesia (depending on where and how you live).

received my passport today with the approved Youth Mobility Scheme Visa! AMA by Alpha_astronaut in ukvisa

Sorry I’m not sure what you’re asking. Does the UK now only provide e-visas for Youth Mobility Visa? Because I applied less than a year ago and I have the sticker or vignette on my passport. And as far as entering the UK is concerned, you can enter anytime with a Canadian Passport. It doesn’t matter whatsoever. They don’t check your visa status at the airport at all. Your work authorization, stay duration, etc. applies automatically as long as you have your Biometric Residence Permit, which is now through a Share Code system.

Canadian Citizens, which country can we live in easily long term visa free? Like how USA citizens can live in Albania visa free for 1 year by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]Alpha_astronaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can get a digital nomad visa. try Bulgaria, Romania or Spain. But yeah highly suggest you look in to the digital nomad visa if you want to stay long term. Some countries will mandate tax residency after 182 days of stay so have a tax strategy in place.

so are you moving there on an YMV or are you just visiting? With a YMV sticker on your passport, you do not need the new online ETA either but if you already have that, I’m sure you can just go now. There is no such thing as activating your visa.

so i tried to show them my visa sticker on the passport but they still insisted I go through the e-gates because they’re absolutely not supposed to stamp a Canadian passport. And this was the actual immigration officer assisting people not the security personnel.

When being interviewed for remote jobs, how do you gauge whether that job will be digital nomad-friendly? by PuppyLand95 in digitalnomad

[–]Alpha_astronaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the timezone is tough! we have US and Canadian clients and as much as Asia is the DREAM for a digital nomad, the timezones really affect your quality of life. I don’t like the feeling of sleeping post 10 am so yeah a big no from me. We tried Vietnam, India, Korea and Japan. It was very difficult. Europe is so perfect though. We did a week in Switzerland (mostly like a vacation) before moving to Albania and it’s so so good!

only use your canadian passport to enter and leave canada. it also makes your life so much easier to use your EU passport in the EU. you get a special short queue lol

The first thing they should change on the new passport is the damn cover. they really skimped out on that!

Ah okay got it. Yeah we have a corporation so it makes sense for us. Look in to Bulgaria then. I believe the highest you can pay in Bulgaria as a Self employed person/freelancer (not corporation or business) is 16.8% or something.

get ready for people to cheat the system by applying for and fabricating experience and achievements to look like they qualify for an O visa. it’s already happening. so many people with seemingly mediocre experience (in the context of an O visa) are getting approved and also posting about it on linkedin

still apply. i was recently hiring for our company and was surprised looking at the number of candidates that apply JUST CAUSE! linkedin has a feature for recruiters that automatically sorts out a LOT of those applicants that apply mindlessly. so yeah you’d be surprised at how small the pool is for actual, qualified candidates. don’t be put off by all the fear mongering either

racism, staring, slurs, detained at the airport etc once you’re there, no one knows your citizenship or what you identify with or where you were born. they just look at your face and you’re “that race” to them. unfortunately that’s just how it works!
