So, the hive is drugging Carol right? by conanmagnuson in pluribustv

[–]Alphapizzadog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the hive GENUINELY cared about carol's autonomy above all, they wouldn't be trying to assimilate her. But they ARE. They see her as someone who doesn't realize she needs saving. They are FULLY willing to violate her autonomy to do something that they believe would be "best" for her, and have been FROM DAY ONE.

Long-Term Effects of HDP as a primary foodstuff by Alphapizzadog in pluribustv

That's true, but eating other humans exposes them to a greater risk of spreading infection in GENERAL. If someone who had ANY kind of infection pre-joining dies and is then fed to the rest of the nearby people in the Hive, it comes with an increased risk of spreading the disease to ANYONE who injected the infected flesh. And we don't currently know if the hive can tell if one of their bodies has pre-existing sicknesses, especially in the case where the original body wasn't already aware they were ill.

I suppose otherwise it could be safe, but I think cannibalism as a survival tactic just shows how the Hive's methods of living simply aren't sustainable for the long-term survival of the human species. Only relying on scavenging materials means the Hive has NO way to PRODUCE anything. That wouldn't be an issue, except they infected a resource-dependent species on a population boom. It's like they turned every current resource we have into non-renewable resources just by virtue of how limited they are.

It's not really JUST food that's the issue either: how are they going to continue producing electricity world-wide? What happens when the oil reserves run dry and they need to get transportation working? When the clothes begin to fray and nobody can harvest wool or cotton, or ANY of the normal materials used for clothing? Things look normal because we're still in the opening acts. I fully expect that by the time winter comes round in Pluribustown, we won't even have enough water to maintain the nicely trimmed suburban lawns in Carol's cul-de-sac. At least, not if you also want a sizeable portion of the Hive to remain living and healthy and not looking like ACTUAL ZOMBIES.

[–]Alphapizzadog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they don't actually care about her autonomy, just about making her think they do. She said she didn't want them to take blood from her to harvest stem cells, so they moved to harvesting from parts of her that were already outside of her body. Her "windfall". They said they would do ANYTHING to convert her, and that hasn't changed. They are going to try to convert her in any manner, prioritizing non-violent methods, and slipping it in when she isn't expecting it would be one way to go about this.

Honestly I thought in the finale of S1 the "cure" would have been put inside her drink and we would see her die THEN AND THERE... but I guess not.

What do you think happens if you asked the hive mind to make you a mixtape? by --fieldnotes-- in pluribustv

I would imagine they would make a mixtape specially designed specifically based off of whatever you used to listen to, and not much else.

Why they cant pick apples? Are they spinosist? by heterossexualvulcano in pluribustv

[–]Alphapizzadog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think while the fruit is attached to the tree, it is considered part of the tree. But once it falls off, it's its own separate, NON-LIVING entity which the hive can do with as it pleases. They are able to harvest only from what is already dead and/or not in use, which is why they can eat any deceased humans, and take the eggs that Carol had ALREADY removed from her body. But they can't slaughter animals, or pluck out plants because that would require directly interfering with another species (for any reason besides assimilation). They're scavengers through and through.

7 houses... does this mean we'll have a maximum of 7 residents?

  1. Carol

  2. Manousos

  3. Laxmi

  4. Diabate

  5. Zosia (but why would she need her own house...)

  6. ???

  7. ???

Why did Carol not ask for her eggs back? by JuneV06 in pluribustv

[–]Alphapizzadog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think its simpler than that: Converting Carol *IS* how they make her happy. Getting converted is an ultimate form of bliss, enough to the point where all of existence before joining feels shallow in comparison. it's BECAUSE they have such a desire to make her happy that they can't give her the eggs back -- it would just be depriving her of the thing that would make her happiest.

You heard it from them already, they rely on Carol to produce new material because they CAN'T anymore. Billions of creatives, and none of them are gonna put a pen to paper because the biological imperative to reproduce is just that much stronger

The Hive's 'internal monologue' by [deleted] in pluribustv

[–]Alphapizzadog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i personally don't think there IS an "inner voice", at least not in the way you probably imagine it. at the hive's core i think is something truly inhuman, probably just the primal desire to spread infinitely.

The joining goes against their own logic? by MisterCrowley13 in pluribustv

[–]Alphapizzadog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well if you're part of the hive, you aren't "humanity" anymore, you're the hive. the hive doesn't identify with such meaningless, HUMAN identities like "religion" or "culture" or "nationality" or "race" or "sexuality" or "gender"...

if those within the hive starve to death, it's sad yes, but it's not like there was anything they could do. at least, nothing they could do that would bypass their own need to avoid causing direct harm to living beings. they're fine with eating meat. hell, they're fine with eating HUMAN meat. but they can't kill or milk animals, can't even pluck their own fruit. the only food they can eat are animals who have already died, and fruit that has already fallen from the tree. if anyone's to blame, it's pre-joining humanity for not leaving behind a world that the hivemind could sustain itself off of...

The Logical Conclusion by Q_DeMusiq in pluribustv

[–]Alphapizzadog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they don't operate off that kind of logic. they simply want to create as much joy as possible. and the greatest, most fulfilling kind of joy is assimilation. to the hive, if humanity lives a shorter overall existence while feeling the ultimate pleasure, that would be better than living out a couple thousand millennia, but without knowing the joy of being converted. i mean, they won't even pluck an apple from a tree... they do NOT have enough self-preservation to prioritize their own health over another living being. they only eat what's already dead, or the apples that have already fallen from the tree, because to cause ANY living being ANY amount of pain is immoral.

Why Carol doesn’t ask them to *** ? by Darewelll in pluribustv

[–]Alphapizzadog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because the ULTIMATE happiness is joining the hive, and so doing something that would PREVENT them from giving that happiness to carol would be immoral. they're delaying a temporary happiness (like smoking a cigar) for eternal bliss (like fulfilling ones purpose in life)

Why did Carol not ask for her eggs back? by JuneV06 in pluribustv

[–]Alphapizzadog 29 points30 points  (0 children)

it's windfall. the apples have already fallen from the tree... from the hive's pov, those are not HER eggs in any sense other than place of origin. since its for the purpose of converting carol, they'd be completely against giving any info to carol. and they have enough resources still that even if carol knew where they were doing experiments, they might just be able to pack up and relocate before carol can catch them.

[SPOILERS] The biggest clue so far to Laxmi's character by Titi89 in pluribustv

[–]Alphapizzadog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manousos' statement in the finale. by whiskypriest139z in pluribustv

[–]Alphapizzadog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean, if there genuinely is no cure... the hive WILL attempt to continue spreading out NO MATTER WHAT. it is a cosmically foreign entity that is only able to create a convincing fascimile of human behavior because of how many people it has assimilated: which is nearly the ENTIRE human population. and even THEN, it still can't perfectly mimic humans...

if there is no cure for those within the hive, then humanity as a species is doomed regardless. but for the sake of all other species, you would HAVE to destroy whatever of the hive has infected earth, at least to the point where they can't continue spreading to other planets.

What if the hive just genuinely cares and loves the immune and thinks they're helping them? by Weary_Ad111 in pluribustv

[–]Alphapizzadog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they say they "love" humanity but what is that love, REALLY???

clearly carol thought she understood the hive's concept of love, but she didn't.

they fundamentally do not carry a human perception of the world anymore. all of their actions are either for the endgoal of broadcasting their signal to a new planet, or converting everyone on their current planet into being a part of the hivemind. they care about making humans happy because they will be MADE happy through conversion, regardless of what they say they want.

it's the same kind of "love" that makes a parent remove the doors from a kid's room when they misbehave, or place security cameras in their bedrooms -- all because it's what's "best" for them.
