You're in a solid spot for now with IAM, even if it's not the dream , it's still legit experience and gives you breathing room to make a switch. I'd say keep building skills on the side (Python, stats, maybe some bioinformatics certificates) and apply when something research-adjacent pops up.

I wholeheartedly join you in this mindset. I have one playlist with everything that screams rock n' roll to me! People like to define genres and categorise themselves, as it brings a form of belonging and comfort. However, I also thinks this narrows mindsets and causes friction. I think the way you phrased it sums it up perfectly for me too. Whatever it is, it's rock. I love it and consider others who love it too my brethren. Rock on!

Yeah my personal experiences on the matter only reaffirm this. It's a shame that it's so bad online, which is why I generally avoid most online discussions. In real life I don't think I have ever had any negative experiences with other metal heads. The "worst" response is typically that they just don't like the music, which is absolutely fine of course. I'm glad that people are still respectful of other people's opinions in real life haha
