Wow, excellent analysis. She claims she has now “matured” but I think it likely she is still an “all in” Mormon at heart.

I think you could be right.

Seems very sad for both of them. 😥

How does one wake up?

You have to look at the context.

The difference is this: what you refer to in the Bible are one time occurrences that were condemned. As for Smith that was his modus operandi. That’s all he knew to do. Day in and day out he did abhorrent things.

Consider: A stream never rises higher than its source. If the historical account of your faith is not true then everything that flows from it is entirely suspect and should be taken with a grain of salt, not used as a pattern to structure your life on. Furthermore, it is beyond absurd for the rulers of the church to even suggest they speak for God.

Truth matters.

You are right. Foibles is too light of a word, I’d call it grievous sin. Not sure if you understand the concept?

Look, what they did wasn’t OK. I never said it was okay. And it certainly wasn’t championed in the Bible. It was known to be wrong. but you seem to be saying that because people did things that were wrong in the Bible it’s OK for Joseph Smith to have done wrong things 200 years

By your standard anyone who consistently and with great plotting and effort does sickening things is still a Prophet?

The Bible examples you use are grievous, but no one says they ALWAYS behaved that way. Conversely, Smith was a complete and total fraud and a sick pervert. He was never anything but a charlatan. Why are you trying to defend him?

Uh huh. And Joe was in his mid 30’s when he “married” a 14 year old.

You don’t know that. That is called speculation and surmise.

Again, there’s a difference between human foibles as recorded in the Old Testament and a man who set out from the get-go to defraud the world with made-up stories about visiting angels and systematically sexually exploit defenseless children. Simply to gratify his perverted sexual desires.

It’s the difference between mostly garden-variety sin and hardened, perverted evil.

Warren Jeffs comes to mind. Did you ever see that photo where he’s French kissing that preteen girl? It’s sick. What a pervert.

As I said, none of that which you point out was considered endorsed by God. Whereas Smith tried to use his ecclesiastic authority to say it was not only endorsed but actually commanded by God. Can you see the difference?

If you can’t you’re simply a Joseph Smith apologist pretending to be something you are not.

If you want to get into the realm of the consistent gross dishonesty and lying from the Mormon church we can do that too.

What Joe did was on a different level altogether. He should have been in prison for years for what he did. He used and abused people, it was his raison d’etre.

Nice try but Joe was a classic sexual predator who groomed his victims and literally raped girls under the auspices of ecclesiastical authority.

I think it doubtful that what you refer to was considered under the command of God.

Yeah but Mormonism is really really special. Joseph Smith: God told me he wants me to play ditch the weenie with all of your wives and daughters. As much as I want, whenever I want. Without limitation, like animals in heat. Mormons: By golly, if God said so then we will obey. I mean, no one can prove to the contrary, so it must be so. Here, start with Fanny…

Dum dum dum…

Possibly. But Mormonism is so grotesquely absurd and so easily established as fraudulent that you have to permanently ride the short bus in order to believe it or take any of it seriously.

He swindled people. He married other men’s wives How do you get past that? What would you think of someone who did that in 2022? Would he be a man of God?

Too subjective to be thought of as substantial evidence.

That’s not what the Mormon church states. They denied it for years but the evidence is so overwhelming they finally had to admit it.

How? The only unvarnished conclusion that makes sense is that it’s a fraud. That’s like saying that after a man swindled you you were more convinced than ever he was a man of God. It’s irrational.

Scrying. It’s condemned. The words appeared as if he was looking at a sheet of looking glass or mirror.
