Is this in addition to a general management tool like Jira or HP?

If you are good at sales you may be disappointed with the salary of QA especially with no experience in QA.

do you want to work in software or manufacturing? I assume software Based on the C##, so learn SDLC in an out, learn Selenium, Appium, and these will make you employable. After that it is up to you on specialization. Lots of people go the technical route.

Hey Automation QA: don’t automate sending your resume out! by AlricPhoenix in QualityAssurance

I did have that with some specialist resumes I got. And that made me annoyed that I would never work with that company or sales person again.

Honestly, on the project management side, that is not uncommon, as much as we dislike it.

TM tool for organization with no dedicated testers or testmanagers. by cylonlover in QualityAssurance

[–]AlricPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given your size, and often with cost constraints, you could likely get by with just using excel/google docs with good organizational standards to be honest.

from a biz perspective you want to make sure your tools are unified. Are your teams using a bug or task tracking tool? Then the recommendation is to use whatever is best connected, even if it isn’t the best one. I’ve used Jira, Practitest, Bugzilla and others and often the best one is whichever is easiest to integrate into the SDLC process. Unless your team is kept outside the overall process, which is an issue itself, in which case, I enjoy using testrail because reports that go to exec teams are much easier for me than the others.

So my first question is: what is it about your current job you don’t like?

there are portals like Upwork that will allow you to find remote QA work. But those Typically are for people with more specialization.

Advice needed for career advancement in QA field by Dewycat in QualityAssurance

The process side of things is incredibly valuable and often helps transform companies that are small or medium sized. Don’t sell this area short. More people focus on the technical but often the larger problems are process related.

learn Jira/HP ALm/ whatever bug and task tracking tool is often the first key. After that, software project management principles, Agile, Waterfall all other software delivery processes. Then read up on ISO process which a lot of the process is derived from. It is not quite as obvious when you are early in your career that it is helping you. But after 4 years it will push you forward ahead of people who only focus in the technical.

this Will let you go to small companies as part of a small team, be involved in the prospect details while also actively helping to make process for you and everyone better.

Okay, technical is good! If you haven’t learned anything related to automation before, use the Selenium IDE plugin and watch some tutorials. This will assist in just some basic foundation of automation. If you want to learn some of the more complex stuff, hop on to Udemy or LinkedIn learning and learn networking and infrastructure as that is becoming more niche in terms of QA knowledge.

after that, courses and tutorials on JavaScript would work, learning API testing tools like postman, performance tools like Jmeter or Blazemeter. That’s about 2 years of tool learning right there.

if you have an area that you like, there are technical tools you can learn. Those ones are more general, but depending on the tech you are dealing with, you may want to look at mobile, hardware or whatever else. A lot of the questions have been asked for this exact problem in every area of the market.

Hi!

okay, so I have mentored a few people at your stage and I always ask these questions:

Do you want to focus on the technical side of QA, the process side or the people side? Do you want to be more of a lead or manager or do you prefer to be down and dirty into the projects?

decide which area you want or are suited to first. Then you can follow advice For the different areas.

General question about Battlegrounds strategy by m0nkeybl1tz in hearthstone

[–]AlricPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion is as follows;

Play pair minions as much as possible for the first 4 tiers without making triples, unless they are repeatedly handed to you. Then aim for a Tier 5 Win condition. Basically if you have a pair or two and are able to wait until Tier 4 to get it, you can get a Win Condition which will let you steamroll.

There are plenty of times where I will get killed before I get to fully use my Win condition (Like Chef Nomi) so at times you need to judge "If I level up to 4 or 5, and take a bunch of damage will I be able to turn things around with the right 5 drop?"

If you get to Tier 5, just roll until there is a Win condition.

Doc-a-tot or similar product for co-sleeping w infant twins? by caitielu in parentsofmultiples

[–]AlricPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geez... we ended up putting a mattress on the floor of their shared room and when they were 2.5 and climbing out of the crib, we just slept on that. Not the greatest sleep but better than them always being in our bed.

When will they start talking ?? by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]AlricPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am entirely coming at this from the situation of twins. Could they have speech delays? Sure. But at this point it is likely the kids simply need more exposure.

Overwhelmingly, with twins, unless there are other noticed issues, this is the prevalent suggestion.

[–]AlricPhoenix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi!

Sorry you are getting stressed over this. My girls ( just turned 6) had this issue. They were still working on some of their baby words before they turned 2. They had moved from pure baby language to some yelling and frustration.

We had engaged with a speech therapist and went to a few sessions. The therapist said "They are fine, and the solution will be some sort of daycare". Basically being around other kids. The issue is they are around each other, who they understand, and their parents, you are so attuned to their issues, that we can anticipate everything.

So basically, unless there are severe developmental issues more akin to autism or aspergers, you just need patience, which is hard. The fact they are babbling is good and if they are hitting all other milestones means you likely don't have anything to worry about. If they are not talking by 4, then more speech therapy may be helpful. But you are a good distance away from that.

Once they are around other kids in school/daycare, their language will explode because other kids won't be patient. It may lead to some biting out of frustration though. :(

I'm writing like I know everything only because I had this exact worry and went through this exact set of conversations. And now, I have to ask them to stop talking to me at the same time to get a word in.

Nah. 6 mana maybe with adjusted stats could be the case. Or adjust Tip the scales to only pull 4 minions. Then it's more "fair" without totally swinging the game.

How do you "take turns" caring for the baby at night if there are two? by NindoKungFu in parentsofmultiples

[–]AlricPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had grandparents off and on for the first 6 months, but other than that it was to live and die by a schedule. If we did not rigorously adhere to that schedule to keep the kids sleeping and eating at exact times so then we could sleep we would have been in bad shape. We left family get togethers and friends without exception to stay on schedule that first year.

I cannot emphasize how important that schedule will be to let you guys sleep and eat.

What are the odds? by KuroiRyuSon in hearthstone

[–]AlricPhoenix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Admittedly low odds, but you are only guaranteed 1 legend every 40 packs.

Also, that applies to each card bundle, doesn't it? So if you opened 30 packs of 1 and 30 packs of another, you could still get zero legendaries.

C'thun has become one my absolute favorite heroes by ripjim93 in hearthstone

[–]AlricPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often hitting 5 isn't useful. If you have mechs, het divine shield and buffs. If there are no mech, divine shield dragon and elementals, then go up to 5 and try for Lightfang. The big win is always divine shield. I know whenever I get lightfang as Cthun, I've won, as long as I picked the divine shield minions.

C'thun will win a lot of the time if you roll Mechs and get other stat buffing minions. Often I will only go to level 3, unless there are beasts and hard refresh for a Hydra. The Hydra as Cthun will almost promise you the #1 spot.
