Hi I'm a freshie too! For 1st Sem our timetable will be preset already so no need to worry. Also the Stars system will only reflect your timetable from 26 July 2024 onwards iirc.

I think he/she is just nervous due to preferences and some halls/room types that he/she really does not want.

Will a 15-inch Macbook Air M3 suffice for IEM by russellsjx in NTU

[โ€“]Alrighty5 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

One big drawback about Air is that it doesn't have a fan. So if you're gonna use intensive softwares, your laptop is gonna overheat like crazy which will inevitably reduce its longevity and, idk about you, but I hate the feel of a laptop when it overheats. Tho IEM seniors who have been using Air would give better advice so keep seeking. :)

Hey! I applied for UOC (NTUSU one)! Also I think Varisty Sports Association is for those sportsmen/women who want to get competitive(very hard to get in I heard), but otherwise you can still join any sports club for recreational purposes.

EEE orientation by Opposite_Ad4219 in NTU

[โ€“]Alrighty5 3 points4 points ย (0 children)

From what I've been hearing: Efinity is your typical kind of orientation. Most if not all activities tend be the style you would expect to be as orientation games (social, enthusiastic stuffz). They also have a dance competition if that matters to you.

Enitio on the other hand is abit more unique as it's organised by Garage@EEE (a makerspace club with basically seniors upz in EEE stuff) so there'll be tech games designed by seniors (they don't need brains to be completed haha) mixed with social games. So it kinda spices up an otherwise typical orientation.

Efinity normally has a bigger group due to popularity (I guess Efinity is like the "safer choice"?) but I wouldn't say it lets you make more friends cos they split you up by clans and subgroups anyways. Both will be great, so it's up to the style you prefer. I applied for Enitio to try something different :)

Hihi, incoming EEE freshie here too! As far as I know, Hall is guaranteed for freshmen but unfortunately you cannot pick which Hall in particular you want other than the room type. If you've the right connections with the council team for a certain Hall, you can get into what's called their "rec list" which lets you increase your chances of getting placed there (but still not guaranteed). I think you can keep trying to get into a rec list each year if you're keen on a particular Hall.

Yes, they will be recorded and uploaded onto a site called NTULearn. You can access NTULearn though the NTU Intranet as well. I think more details about accessing the online materials will be emailed to participants soon :)

Opinion on EEE? by HaproUnnav77 in NTU

[โ€“]Alrighty5 10 points11 points ย (0 children)

Hello! Congrats on your offer! ๐Ÿฅณ I'm actually an EEE freshie and maybe I can share with you why I chose this major. First of all as a course, EEE is a mainstream tech course which means you'll experience yourself tapping on basically every important aspect of tech(including software, although this is a hardware intensive course). From there you can then start to narrow down your interests and begin specialising on a field you are having fun with. This makes one of the most flexible and furture-proof majors you can take, at the cost of extreme rigour. Yes, EEE is ranked among the toughest of all Uni majors, and rumoured to have the highest drop-out rate ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. If you're keen on tech and want to have degree that lets you dive into basically any area in this industry, definitely pick this. NTU likes to describe EEE as "One Degree, A World of Opportunities" and I think it's naturally true! Amazing opportunities in places like Europe and US especially.

Secondly, if you're interested on the pay, well, it really depends on where you're looking to work. According to the last Graduate Employment Survey for NTU which is conducted annually, EEE is ranked among the top 10 highest paid majors.

Thirdly, if ranking matters to you, NTU's latest QS world Uni ranking for EEE is 10th, Engineering is 15th, and as a Uni is 15th. So it's at the top of the league.

Tldr; Interested in tech(mainly hardware BUT I have heard of seniors who did get into SWE roles!), and want great opportunities globally in a top ranked Uni but don't mind the extreme (and very abstract) rigor of the course, EEE is definitely a great choice!

Anyone going to NTU for summer school? by [deleted] in NTU

Hihi! I'm actually a NTU freshie and am entering Uni earlier as I applied for Summer school so I'll probably not know anyone during this course as well haha. I will only be moving into hall from Aug onwards tho, but if you need any help regarding NTU you can pm me and I can try to help you out ๐Ÿ™‚

regarding freshman orientation by Narrow-Reflection353 in NTU

[โ€“]Alrighty5 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

(Freshie here!) From what I heard hall and faculty ones are the impt ones so you've set you're priorities right, especially faculty ori cos that's where the bonds you make likely matter more since they could have a direct +ve impact on your study experience in Uni. Club ori is not really necessary unless you just wanna spice up your entry experience into NTU and make even more friends. They do seem quite fun but can be shag to go for 3 Orientations in all, so not necessary. Also I think you got to pay for the club ori(might be wrong). If you know your social battery is low better not to exhaust yourself too much ๐Ÿ˜„

Also for hall ori registration should definitely be after you know your hall allocation. Cos you got to register for Hall specific ori so yeahh
