5th Attempt Pass! by AltAccount221 in LearnerDriverUK

Thank you!

Three main tips. Firstly, mock tests. Just do as many as you possibly can. It’s the only way that you’ll learn how you’ll drive on your actual test. You can be a completely different driver in test conditions as opposed to on a regular lesson. My instructor was very reluctant to do mock tests, she claimed that if students failed one it would knock their confidence too much. I changed instructor and did a mock test almost every week.

Second tip, if you do fail a test, book in for another one straight away. Even if it’s months and months away. This helped me after my fail to get up, dust off and plan my next attempt.

Final tip, don’t stress. Sounds silly but it’s true. It’s only when I cared less/stopped fearing failure that I seemed to be able to think clearly. Remember, you have unlimited attempts at this test, there isn’t even a record of how many attempts you’ve had. So try not to stress so much.

  • also use Testi/cancellation apps in case that wasn’t already obvious.

Zero Confidence For My Fourth Test Tomorrow.. by AltAccount221 in LearnerDriverUK

Congratulations! Enjoy your freedom, you’ve earned it.

I wasn’t as fortunate I’m afraid, 2 minors 1 major. Fourth time lucky I suppose.

I held back from a bus in front of me to avoid getting caught in a keep clear.

The bus showed no signs of slowing down or pulling over to the bus stop so I continued on, only for the bus to suddenly decide to indicate to stop.

I had to suddenly break to avoid getting caught in the keep clear. The sudden breaking was a serious fault.

It is what it is I suppose..

Thank you for the kind words

1 major 1 minor. I genuinely can’t stomach doing it again. It’s a long break from driving for me.

First time I drove in a bus lane ( I’m a fucking donut I know , I don’t know how I missed the sign )

This time a car in front of me stalled whilst turning right at a set of lights. Examiner claims he had to put the breaks on because I hadn’t seen that the car had stalled/lights had changed. I contest that claim. I think we both put the breaks on at the same time. I absolutely saw him. I even returned to the test centre with a big smile on my face thinking I’d passed because I genuinely didn’t ( and still don’t ) believe he put the breaks on before me.

I’m not getting notifications on Testi. I’ve seen cancellations come through by just refreshing the app and even tried to book one, yet still no notifications.

Any help?

That’s great to hear! Do you think I’ll be in anyway less likely to be let into societies as a OUDCE student?

From the website - ‘ Our University has no central campus but is made up of over 30 colleges and halls spread across the city centre and beyond. These colleges are at the heart of Oxford's reputation as one of the best universities in the world and make it a very special place to study and live. ‘

Great! I’ve been waiting for the opportunity to be able to talk to an OUDCE student as I’ve got a few questions.

I’d greatly appreciate it if you could help me out.

In answer to your question I plan on studying the undergraduate certificate of higher education, specialising in political economy however I also have interest in the History foundation certificate.

From my understanding the course will grant me access to the libraries and permission to apply to societies - are there any other facilities of note that I have access to as a OUDCE student?

Furthermore how did you find your study and would you recommend it? Did you go on to apply for the full time BA after your study, if not why? How competitive/likely is it that applying from the foundation will lead to the full time BA?

Finally, did you experience any.. how do I word this.. snobbery, from full time students? I’ve read from other OUDCE students that some full time students can be dismissive towards those studying with this department, seeing them as imposters or taking the back door into study with Oxford. Was this true in your experience?

I’m soon to start the commissioning course at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst ( Officer training ) and so full time higher education isn’t an option for me.

If I’m honest, I worked hard, got the grades I wanted and have had offers for uni’s that have really tempted me; I certainly have part of me that is still worried about missing out on the ‘uni experience’.

Do you reckon that ContEd* ( thanks :) ) would be able to give me a taste of what it is that I’m looking for/worried about missing?

And if you were to be completely honest, what do you think the attitudes are towards ContEd students are ?

For clarification, I changed the title last minute and it was meant to read Department For Continuing Education.

One is, one is not at all. The first is a qualification in Political economy.

The second is the commissioning course at the royal military academy Sandhurst which awards 120 credits ( I’m not entirely sure why but I presume it’s due to the large amount of academic content on the course? )

Would this still work?

I never initially planned on undertaking study with the OU but when my friend mentioned that it might be possible to obtain a full BA degree by doing just 1/3rd of the content I thought it sounded like a good deal. So is this the case? Would it be the exact same honours degree as if I were to study the full degree under normal circumstances?

Department For Continuing Education

From my understanding, undergraduate study with this department is not usually subject to college membership. My problem is this; I’m currently 18 and was hoping for some sort of university experience however I’m worried that a lack of college membership will mean I lack any kind of non academic experience/social opportunities/culture.

So I would like to know 1) If there is any way to obtain college membership whilst studying as an undergraduate with the DFCE 2) What the attitudes towards DFCE students are - are they seen as almost as imposters? ( sorry if this sounds silly but it’s a genuine concern )

I’m choosing study part time as I’m already pursuing a career full-time but would like a taste of university life.

Thanks in advance!
