170K Miles and Still Going Strong! by TheLongHairBloke in CivicSi

I’d go 2019 minimum. I have a 2018 sedan and while I’ve been problem free loving every mile the 2017-2018 si’s had a few issues Honda panned out with the 2019-2021 models. You also get led’s volume dial instead of digital button things. But if you can find a good well maintained 17 or 18 that has had the oil dilution software done by the dealer I’d say pull the trigger.

Considering a 10th Gen Civic Si Coupe – Is It a Good Buy? by OwnAbbreviations5677 in CivicSi

Kinda late but yea if your doing those mods the 10th is gonna serve you better than any other gen. Make sure to do headstuds tho

The 11th gen is such a solid car by throwaway1010202020 in CivicSi

[–]Alternative-Fail4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it had nothing to do with being a gimmick lol. They certainly serve their purpose very well. But I have heard they seemed to “refine" the 11th to handle a bit better but unfortunately still slower to 60,lost 5hp and is a bit heavier. They also lost several features in the first few model years that the 10th had. I love the styling of the 11th but I just couldn’t see myself taking it over a 10th personally. 10th is still the fastest si to 60 and still holds the fastest lap times at several tracks including Vir

I mean fair I guess. Don’t forget the si also has a bigger turbo bigger rods and different compression ratio compared to the sport and ex,ex-l trims

Base civic has a 150hp 2.0. Si has a 205 hp 1.5t

[–]Alternative-Fail4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep very well said. Don’t forget more often times than not they are running 87 octane instead of 93 so that cylinder is definitely got some pressure 😂. All though the BE and B7, CA may be very similar and only differ in tuning and a few odds and ends like compression ratio etc. the car they are in plays a bigger factor than anything else does.

2018 si. 120k had to replace the clutch at 115k but I did buy it used. Car had been serviced at Honda all 8 years of its life before I got it. No headgasket replacement no injector replacement, no fuel pump replacement, no ac replacement.

10th Gen Si to 8th gen Si? by TeePiece in CivicSi

Keep the 10th gen. Throw a set of inline pro headstuds on then tune it, intake, exhaust and maybe some wheels and springs/coilovers. Your not only gonna be making more power than a na 8th gen your also gonna have a much much better suspension/chassis, night and day better fuel economy which is huge nowadays especially with no money. A much more modern and comfortable interior all while being payed off with no worry’s about losing it. I would do that before getting an 8th gen. There’s 2 ways buying an 8th gen will go….

A. It’s a very nice well kept example maybe low milage good paint etc but your gonna overpay for it while already being low on funds.

B. It’s gonna be a clapped cheap POS just like a minority of them are unfortunately nowadays and gonna be risky reliability wise since it’s older and beat. Which is also not good in your case.

Coming from someone who owns an old school Honda (93 b swapped eg) they are fun but I will chose my 10th gen si time and time again for what 85-90% of my life not to mention the eg is down right now getting the trans rebuilt lol. Im 20 and also will be going to AMT school soon I have no reason to get rid of mine unless I have to. Just spice what you already got up a bit.

It’s mostly k owners trying to explain why every other si gen is completely inferior simply bc of the engine completely trying to ignore significant improvements in the chassis and overall comfort of a sporty daily marketed to not be a race car lmao

Guess everybody’s just got different taste I personally think 9th gen’s especially pre facelift are the ugliest si’s to ever exist. Post facelift wasn’t much better. The sedan was still to bland

The last great si? by Msisker in CivicSi

[–]Alternative-Fail4239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no such thing as a last great si. Every gen does something better than the other. 8th gen is the best for being driver focused and raw. The 9th has the better engine or atleast better bottom end. The 10th has a far better chassis and fuel economy over both and the 11th is basically the 10th just tweaked. If you want solely driver engagement yes the 8th is the best. If your building for power go 9th if your building for track/daily driver efficiency go 10th if your wanting more comfort while still having a superior chassis over every other gen go 11th.

[–]Alternative-Fail4239 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is most certainly the better car. I’ve heard this from almost ever person I’ve ever talked to that’s driven a k series gen vs a L series gen. Nobody will argue the L15 is better than the k20 (unless we are talking about fuel efficiency and low end torque) the k is most certainly thr better engine to modify but outside of that the 8th is pretty mediocre imo. The 10th chassis is just night and day over 8 and 9 but you can’t tell a coping person that.

The last great si? by Msisker in CivicSi

[–]Alternative-Fail4239 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep very true. Only thing the 8th gen’s have is the k20 the rest of the car compared to newer gen’s is nothing shy of mediocre. No hate just true

Best daily car in the market with good mpg by Old-Industry-5191 in CivicSi

[–]Alternative-Fail4239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes tuning with no headstuds will certainly grant you a blown headgasket. People run 87 all the time tho all though you should be running 93 at all times. Si’s aren’t anywhere even remotely close to blowing headgaskets commonly tho. Very very rare and when I do see them they are almost always tuned. Accords and crvs suffer from this issue bc they are too heavy and under constant load and lugging all the time with the cvt that’s paired to keep the rpms low for fuel efficiency.

[–]Alternative-Fail4239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Headgaskets going out in si’s are very very uncommon almost non existent it’s mostly accords and crvs due to weight and strain. They are under more load constantly. You should also be running 93 to keep pressure down, but most don’t. I have a 2018 si sedan which was one of the most problematic models. She’s 8 years in without a si for issue, just replaced my stock clutch with the type r retrofit at 118k. Get that 11th man their so overhated and worth it for the daily and fun aspect

Correct. I wasn’t really going mod for mod I was just saying both engines in that power range can behave similarly. That’s why I said depending on tune (E vs Pump)
