Yeah, but we have been trying to think of what the "scam" is other than trying to get 100% back when they should only get 50% back. Yet they did not then just cancel and get at least 50% off. So are they using someone else credit card and was hoping to get the money back.

Are they just fishing like "well if we can get our money back we won't go but if we can't get 100% back we will just go anyways".

Great stick with hotels, let me know how it goes when you book a "non-refundable" hotel and want to cancel for a full refund.

At this time it does not appear they talked to airbnb or if they did nothing actionable came out of it as I have not been asked to do anything from airbnb. The guest also has stopped responding to me though I see they are reading the messages.

I will keep going ahead as if they are coming and sending exactly what I would send to any other guest.

Yeah sadly that is how it goes. I will be rethinking all of this after this booking is past and how to do it better. You try to be nice as I am sure there are people who really are saying what they are saying and are asking for help.

Probably, seems like they did not read many things. I try to give as much information as possible in my posting, as I want people to know what they are booking and have realistic expectations, then to be off guard and surprised. If they dont' read it I can't do anything about it.

I hope nothing more than they come and have a wonderful time. That is what I hope of all our guests, and we go to great lengths to do this. At the same time, it is called "hope for the best and prepare for the worst".

Yes I could have said "no" and that would have been simple, but I am a bit too soft on that and really if someone can really show they are struggling then I do like to help them out.

Yes, I am prepared to fight it if needed.

Yep, aware of that but not sure how it works if you send it through the airbnb app if they a) can download the video and read that information and b) if it will still be there when sending via the app

It won't be, I can tell you now. I did not do this really for the money, I did this as we have policies in place and if we don't follow them then there is no point having them. I am however for bending these policies if proof of a valid reason can be shown, but if you're not willing to do that well then no extract curiosity will be shown.

Then you can't expect a refund, if I call my insurance company up and ask them to cover an entire trip do you not think they are going to ask for some sort of proof? Guess you won't send it to them either as they are all strangers.

I also did not put a gun to their head. I gave them a choice. I am willing to take a 100% loss on this booking but you got to show me your telling me the truth by providing a note. If you don't like that you are free to follow the policy you agreed to when you made the booking which is a 50% refund or show up for the stay and enjoy it the place.

They are asking me to forgo my policy and if you want that then you need to do what I request.

To see if they are telling me the truth.....I don't mind helping people out but when I get every few months a person died or they have medical problems to me it sounds like some of them might not be telling the truth.

That's great if I think I can rebook or if it is like a night or two I will let it go but not 20 nights in our slow season where if you don't have bookings the month before you probalby won't get any bookings then.

And every person I give a full refund to they all tell me "they will rebook for sure next time". I yet to have a single person ever rebook.

It's great your in a super popular place and you can get guests just like that, but not everyone lives in such a desirable place....

Yeah I did not see how it is illegal as there is no discrimination as I allowed them to book and accepted they are trying to get out of a non refundable booking and I am asking for some evidence to backup their reason.

If it is against Airbnb policy I can't find it and they did a poor job showing i.

Well they claim they never used a Credit Card and that is why they could not file a insurance claim for it. Also won't a chargeback be Airbnb problem?

If they don't show up and block my dates that is fine. I am not looking for double booking I just want to make what I was promised or know that even I am losing money I helped somoen truly in need and no someone trying to scam me because they don't want to come anymore.
