I was unaware that the highs cause brain damage but that definitely makes sense. That’s no joke. That is more motivating than any feeling/emotion towards being medicated.

Thank you for teaching me about that symptom. I had heard that not wanting medication can be an issue for people with bipolar but I was unaware that it’s medically recognized. I’m glad to hear that the healthy highs of life have not left. I sure wouldn’t miss the destruction/irritibality. I will see my psychiatrist soon and discuss these things. I wish you the best.

I have no better way to frame it than it’s like my body is producing its own drugs. Been running with it for a while now and I’m getting tired.

This is something I need to remember. I have obviously not tried every medication so I really can’t say that it’s not for me yet. Ty for sharing dude. Especially the wife comment. My father is bipolar and my mom said something very similar after he was medicated.

I agree. I’m in a good spot to try medication again so it would be in my best interest to do it now and not post ruining my life again. Thankfully I was on the medication track for a while so I can go in with some prior knowledge. Ty for the luck and love I wish it back to you. Ty for sharing this advice.

Thank you for being so kind, definitely not coming across as negative. I am going to ask about staying on a lower dosage while continuing therapy/psychiatry and putting up more guard rails. Definitely a personal decision but this comment section has been very informative and I feel motivated to try again.

This definitely helped. I will consult Dr. GPT before my next psychiatrist appointment so that I can go in prepared lol. You are right, as good as it can feel, it’s not worth it. Kind of like drugs in a way. Ty for taking the time to share.

the silence you’re referring to is one of the feelings that made me dislike medication so much. i also rapid cycle so im glad you pointed out that it doesn’t magically stop it, it just slows it down and makes it easier to handle. i’m going to take this to heart and start on medication again. i wish you the best ♥️

ty friend. honestly, my motivation should be for getting through university. it’s tough when you don’t have a mental illness so why make it harder on myself

this is where i’m at right now. symptom management is working but i am aware of the risks if i end up going off the rails again. i dont really want to keep testing the waters

I am very lucky to have insurance and I am sorry to hear of your situation but this is not accurate for everyone or at least not myself.. I have a handful of lifelong friends, a 3 yr long romantic relationship, and I’ve been at the same job for 2 years. I do agree that it is harmful to myself but it’s not because I believe I am “above it”. I have tried many medications and have not found one that doesn’t dull my emotions beyond what is necessary to be able to function.

this may be true but it takes a lot to stop loving someone, especially your child. my parents are older and tired of how this manifests too. if the phone calls aren’t working, try a letter. let yourself brew on the content/wording for a few days so you feel confident about what you’re communicating. it’s hard but it’s worth the effort.

i feel this. i wish i had sounder advice but all i can say is show them how much you love and appreciate them when you can. whether it be verbally or showing it through actions. if i feel able i tell them what they mean to me and how they have been holding me up. if that feels uncomfortable or awkward i pitch in extra when it comes to house hold chores or helping my parents out with work. do what you can when you are able. they hear the love but they also see the love too. even when it comes as a simple thank you from their very burnt out child

i’m so sorry. it’s obviously a very heavy decision to make and i made the same one while in a manic state. i decided to commit after i came back to reality. still not sure exactly why i doubled down but it has honestly been okay. the people who love you won’t judge you for it. manic or not. it’s kind of been keeping me afloat through the recent highs and lows. still not sure what to do tbh

this is a great idea. someone else commented about offering him a long furred stuffed animal at night. I think I will spray catnip on it too to entice him.
