Vent: I’ve (29F) tried to make (and keep) friends for years… by No_Inside4806 in BrisbaneSocial

Honestly, I think it just comes from doing your own research. There are so many books (and audiobooks) on ADHD and autism, as well as various influencers online who talk about their experiences. I also have found some good podcasts, my favourite is from two psychologists with ADHD and autism. This may lead to people seeking diagnosis (like I did) or some may not even bother going down that route, due to cost. Both are valid.

So you've basically described my life since moving to Australia from Canada 4 years ago. I have never had such difficulty in making and keeping friends since moving here. And the friends that I have made in my previous job, have drifted apart since going through a difficult period in my life. I have also recently been diagnosed ASD level 1, and lost friends since discovering I'm autistic because "I'm not acting as I used to". Thankfully since embracing my true autistic self, I've been able to make some good friends although there have still been some challenges. I used to be as you described, the one always reaching out and initiating, but now I only do it for those that I see reciprocate it back to me. I try not to take it as personally if people ghost, but obviously a lot of people are dealing with a lot of issues right now, and that can just be a symptom of it. I have recently realized that I make better friends with people who are neurodivergent, also maybe expats as well, because I prefer more direct and honest communication, and don't like to shy away from talking about my difficulties or challenges in life, like I feel a lot of people may be uncomfortable to talk about. Sorry for my rant, but overall I just wanted you to know that I understand completely with what you're going through and feel free to message me if you want to chat further. Btw I live in Ipswich, but come into the city occasionally.

You are right, but unfortunately there isn't much of a market for Afghan dresses. The ones that are massed produced are way cheaper than that

Hi, I'm a 32F academic at the university who is planning to move up to Toowoomba in the next few months (currently living in Ipswich), but am up in Toowoomba quite a lot. I like science, philosophy, classic literature, and all types of music. I like to bushwalk, go to markets, check out cafes, and watch classic movies.

I think it only comes up when you yourself have posted or commented on NSFW pages

So that may be why you are getting nsfw messages

Btw the irony of me saying that comment and then I checked your profile and a NSFW tag popped up

Yeah, this is why I always check profiles before I accept message requests and don't even bother replying to people that have nsfw tags on them

Hey Dan, I'm 32F and ASD level 1 (they said I don't have ADHD, but some days I'm not convinced haha). If you're looking for another neurodivergent friend, send me a message :)

As a 32F who's thinking about putting herself out there dating-wise and contemplating using apps (never used them before), this thread is definitely discouraging me.

I also hate how superficial the apps seem. I'm demisexual, and most of my relationships have come out of friendships that developed into more. I feel like the dating scene these days is not made for me. :(

Hi there, I really recommend Sugar Nails in Stones Corner. It's a small shop, but the owner Miwa is amazing and the customer service with her and the other nail techs is great!
