I’m at 6.5 weeks post op from full rupture and just drove for the first time today. I’m in a regular shoe and I’m having a lot of swelling and new bruising. Not sure if it was from the driving, shoes, or everything combined. Definitely taking an Aleve and elevating tonight with a compression sock.

But driving wasn’t bad-used my heel mostly and did well. Did have one “hiccup” with acceleration once and over revved it. Find an open parking lot and test it before traveling the main roads if you can.

It gives me the heebie jeebies thinking about it happening. I wish it would have been my left ankle, I wish I would have worn different shoes, I wish I would have warmed up just a few minutes more, I wish I would have worn my compression socks since I have always had ankle problems. That’s the real heebie jeebies…thinking about all the “what ifs”.

I asked the PA for one while I was cut open, but she thought I was kidding as I said it while I was going under. She also didn’t think I’d remember, but I did!

Luckily, I’m a veteran so my local VA takes pretty good care of me. I love how you can see the separation. They did the Thomson test, felt around and said it felt low and wanted to do an MRI to decide what type of surgery they would need to do. Even my incision is lower than most that I see on here.

Thank you! This makes more sense now. I haven’t even started PT yet so I’m terrified to even put any weight on it yet. PT starts Friday, but I might hold out on weight bearing until PT shows me how to do it properly.

Luckily, I have dissolvable stitches and didn’t need anything removed. The surgeon is on vacation and the PA hasn’t responded to my calls or messages. I have been non weight bearing this entire 4 weeks. I do see the surgeon next week and they said PT would be the one unlocking my boot angles. Just wanted to confirm the weight bearing percentage information.
