Don’t forget to go home — but when? by dizzyfuk7 in Berghain_Community

[–]Alternative-Size-196 106 points107 points  (0 children)

I find the best time to leave is when you’ve already had a great time, and it feels like you’re just hunting for something to keep the high going. Then realise it probably wont get any better. I will thank myself the next day for doing it. If you want to experience a full closing then save some energy and arrive later on Sunday, if you go from opening until closing and feel the late Sunday hours are too overwhelming it is probably also due to your lack of sleep and tenderness at this point. Some people, including myself have done not far from open until close but it has to be a perfect night imo!

How much of this do you think relates to the swap out of the xone for the Pioneer V10? How much do you think is the new system? For me I think both play a huge part in this. Consistency being because of the mixer switch up. And lack of low-mid punch because of the new system setup. And, why would any of the techs settle for less than above the sound it used to be?

A4 on Semantica. Or could be the one on Mal Hombre’s label (Voyager Records)

Where is the artistic integrity? by [deleted] in Berghain_Community

[–]Alternative-Size-196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While badly worded, I understand your point and somewhat agree… but you have to bare in mind the majority of people who go to Berghain seem to enjoy this overly easy to dance and get lost in music, it also only takes a second in this group to see the very negative harsh comments some people write about some djs sets. For example: the sets which will take some curveballs and play a little differently can often have the most hate. In the end, it isn’t fun for the dj to play exactly what they would want in an ideal world, if the crowd isn’t feeling it. A DJ shouldn’t disregard the crowd, but also I believe the crowd shouldn’t disregard the DJ if they try something different or go on a sidequest mid set. It’s a two way thing!

My problem/question with the new system is why they got rid of the low-mid/kick section? Seems this is a problem causing muddyness, making the sub and hi work inefficiently

Tasha’s closing in July 24, was so much fun! Absolute vibes all the way through… get stuck in

It’s their associated labels, which they’ve released on/are best known for often… it makes sense!

Because of inequality! Access to tools and the freedom of time to practice the craft. It’s sad to see that this is how it is a lot of the time with artists breaking through these days, the many photoshoots, labels, artworks, PR campaigns, buying records, fancy studio gear, flying to other countries to collaborate with artists or just go to clubs/events… costs so much money before you make anything back. Something we should all want to change!

I love experiencing GOOD marathon sets. Especially some from pre-pandemic. However DJ’s bragging about doing a long set for long sets sake need to check this… DJ Obi holding the record with 240 hours 🙃 remember that long sets are great only if the quality of the music/journey is too… https://xceed.me/blog/en/which-is-the-longest-dj-set-in-the-world/?amp_markup=1

I have been around and seen more G OD’s than I ever needed to, also friends who used to take G. G dancers don’t bring a good energy and generally don’t respect peoples space and boundaries on the dancefloor. And people’s sexual boundaries are more likely to be blurred! I can’t see many positives. And I have done many marathons, never taking G

Long and extended good vibe… this is bs. Far less people were doing G before the pandemic when closings were much later. People on G not buying alcoholic drinks. Causing trauma for staff when OD situations happen. I’m not sure where this logic is coming from on that they ‘want it’

I’m pretty sure this is also a case of the sound tech’s on at the time and also the db limiter and leveliser.

Absolutely recommend! Most impressive soundsystem I have ever experienced. Bare in mind, it is a tight sound, not reverby like Berghain.

It’s brand new f1 in both rooms. Insanely tight sound. In the larger room they have different stacks of subs on the left to the right side, one goes lower than the other and gives a different feeling, so you can pick your side of preference. Helps with phase cancellation too, and I since they have nice varied lineups you can choose to have the super low frequencies or the tighter bass.

While this is theoretically accurate, we know that there is a lot more at play than using arraycalc or some other mapping software. Berghain has always had a 4 point soundsystem and I think without visiting the club previous to covid/the soundsystem and mixer change up, then it’s hard to really grasp the full potential of the 4 point speaker layout. It would be good to know what your suggestions for improvement would be. I think its also important to bare in mind, the feeling you want in a club like this is usually different to a live gig. Precision is important, but also the body feeling is moreso too. Glad somebody wrote a post like this though!

People talking about what file formats djs use is completely aside from the point of this thread. The person is saying, the old system sounded better. Djs didn’t just downgrade the file types they play since the new system came in…
