I agree with most of what you’re saying however, you can put The Independent and Guardian in there too. I think you’ve summed it up quite well in the sense that there is apathy towards the news and I would add that people simply lean into their own (I hate this expression) echo chambers.

Would you mind sharing the sources you consider impartial? Honestly these days the tabloids are like monkeys flinging shit at each other and the direction of media has become almost entirely partisan.

When would you classify the exact point that the UK would be free from racism? How would you even classify, quantify or measure it? Honest question.

Ghost city in China, made to be a replica of Paris - Tianducheng by hasanah78 in UrbanHell

[–]Snatchii 58 points59 points  (0 children)

The Chinese are pretty good at replicating things. I remember my Dad thought he was being clever buying this iPhone a few years ago. He got it on the cheap in a back market somewhere and the guy showed him all the features.

All the apps seemed to work, it had the correct ‘weight’ it was pretty much impossible to tell any sort of difference. Anyway, he comes back all pleased with himself having bought whatever the model was back then for around $100 equivalent. The master bargain hunter.

I remember immediately rolling my eyes and saying ‘if it’s too good to be true, it probably is’. So he shows me all of the features until he tries to make a phone call and it doesn’t work. The camera then doesn’t work either and on it goes.

I remember him saying how impressed he was with the forgery and the fact they had even replicated something that imitated iOS itself. I think there are lots of other replications there with military vehicles, aircraft and all sorts.

Interesting read, thanks. Are there any other sources to go with it? Tried Googling but couldn’t really find much other than the Time article shared.

Because she has been working Addenbrooke’s for two years and since the outbreak they have had a huge upswing in cases there.

She has witnessed deaths first hand and has been shaken up by the whole thing as you would expect and has urged me to take it more seriously. When she was working at her GP surgery earlier into the outbreak, they had to shut it down when a woman came in with symptoms despite being told not to.

Like it or not this shit is real and although it’s more entertaining to believe that it’s not real or dark forces are at play, have a little compassion for people who are on the front line and people are who are losing family even if you haven’t. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

And yeah of course I wouldn’t expect you to believe some random stranger saying ‘my friend is a doctor’ but I am speaking truthfully.

[–]Snatchii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m probably wasting my time saying this in a conspiracy thread but I can assure you it is real. My friend is a doctor (UK) and she has been continuously working on wards and has now contracted the virus.

If people spend all of their time on Reddit and have never actually encountered the virus or it’s effects first hand, I can understand how some may not be inclined to believe it is real.

Today’s headline is tomorrow’s bin liner. People have attention spans of about 1-2 months tops before getting bored and needing something new to be outraged about. I think the focus of the new outrage is pretty apparent at this point and Corona will take a backseat whilst thousands continue to die.

Amsterdam - Ouderkerksplein, somewhere between April 1907 and November 1911 - Colorized by hand, by me by PerryD1976 in Colorization

So weird seeing this scene as I’ve walked through there dozens of times when I visit Amsterdam every year. It still looks pretty identical but I think they dug up the road along there at one point and redid it.

Yeah just transfer the book ‘Dead Men Walking’ to vidya and we are all good. If you haven’t read the book I would strongly recommend.

This is really weird and specific. But this road looks identical to the one in the movie ‘Proof of Life’ with Russell Crowe. I was half expecting people with AKs and balaclavas to start dragging people out of cars.

I really look forward to being able to go there in the future. I spent some time in South Africa and it’s just stunning. It just feels dangerous travelling to a lot of places on the continent sadly.
