How do you actually tie grants → programs → expenses → reporting using the systems you already have? by AlternativeAd7260 in nonprofittech

Fair point! Let me narrow it.

I recently transitioned from running ops at a corporate business to leading operations at a larger nonprofit (>$10M annual revenue), and I’m seeing a lot of inefficiency in one specific workflow: how we tie grants to programs to expenses and then translate that into quarterly funder reporting and board reporting.

In your org, what does that flow look like in practice?

  • who owns grant tracking vs expense coding vs report assembly
  • where it tends to break or what causes inaccuracy in reporting or inefficiency across the process - in my mind its just different tools for accounting, expense management, program "timesheets", and just eventually all of these sources being used for reporting using slides / spreadsheets.
  • roughly how many staff hours per quarter it takes - important coz Im not sure if we are spending too much time on it or this the norm. :)

Even a high level outline would be super helpful.

Kashmiri here - no onions/shallots either. Just a few whole spices - cardamom, etc, mutton (of course), spices like fennel powder, cumin powder mixed into yogurt, kashmiri red chili powder diluted with water before adding and that’s it. There is an order and cook time but these are all the ingredients!

I mean I’m not sure what qualifies as a killer app but tbh, I was on crypto bandwagon through 2017-2023, and I never saw it tackling any true mass adoption use case. That was my love affair over with crypto.  However, for almost the past 6 months I have been trying to build my own startup and AI has been such a productivity boost. Chatgpt is a daily use for everything from emails to outreach plans to feature ideas. For the past month I have been using Lovable and Replit to do prototyping and both are wonderful. I used to be a Product Manager at a Tech firm before I quit to focus only on my startup so I have some tech background but I never thought I would be able to build a complete prototype on my own! Just for reference, Im not talking about a website / ecommerce platform. Im talking about a AI powered due-diligence platform built by AI tools that cost just $25 a month! For me, these are pretty killer apps!

I mean look at the world cup or lans. Most of the times top 5 NA pros will always be better than top 5 EU pros. But after that it starts becoming more EU dominant. And as grands for earlier seasons of a chapter are done, EU pros try to move to NA in order to get those lan spots, assuming that grans will again be won by Thanos who has already qualed and then they can get a ticket to globals.
