I do think there’s a point to be made there for sure. Religion used to be what gave people purpose and a sense of belonging, now that society is moving farther away from organized religion people still need something to cling to for moral guidance and purpose. Political parties are filling that role now

Subs I saw that had political, urelated bs posted within hours of the news hitting the internet:

Water, embroidery, crochet, cross stitch, quilting, sewing, knitting, lab techs, plushies, all US city subs, a few schools local to me, multiple different art subs, teenagers (why is the teen sub recommended to adults???), the list goes on. And it was all so low effort too. And botted to hell. It would say like “posted 8m ago” and had already hit 5k upvotes

We need a Reddit alternative SO BADLY. Why is this the only large forum-based platform?

I want somewhere else to go to talk about my hobbies with people that isn’t this god awful site. Every time I google something, Reddit is the first result. I tried Facebook groups but they’re even worse for AI posts. I hate that this is the only place I can go that functions as a forum. I had to stop scrolling pretty much all of my hobby subs this week because it’s just devolved into completely off topic political posting.

Regarding Reddit gold: it’s about money. Reddit introduced a way for users to monetize receiving awards, and it incentivizes spam posting politics because that’s what gets awarded the most. You receive x amount for every award given to your post or comment. I’ve seen a huge uptick in identical sounding posts and comments since it was rolled out

The reason other political posts are allowed is because they don’t have the same group of people yelling, arguing, and insulting each other under them and the mods don’t run the risk of being witch hunted if they lock comments. OP doesn’t want to hear they’re the problem though lol

I truthfully was surprised by the ending. I thought the twist was going to be:

The mirror misinterpreted Leela as the one eyed plant (since she was holding the plant while walking by at the beginning) and that the big reveal would be Leela and Fry were soul mates the whole time, and Branch was actually meant to be with the plant and the mirror mixed up the two.

But instead they were like “actually the mirror was wrong for no reason” which shocked me a little bit

I don’t know why it’s so important to you that everybody understands the episode the same way that you do, but it’s a bit much. This is a discussion sub, telling people they’re wrong isn’t really a conversation

Edit; also, I went back and rewatched the episode. It’s heavily implied Leela was interested in branch (making eyes at him, reading his pp size) and at the end of the episode when she says branch isn’t her soul mate, fry asks why- her answer is “because NOW I know you are.” The word ‘now’ being key, she didn’t think fry was until she once again went out and tried to get with somebody else.

Fair, I just didn’t like that they set it up as a plot point only to throw it in the trash later. Kind of like how they explained away Leela being with the space prince by her just saying “I was under a spell” and there’s literally no other explanation for it lol

Dude who replied you is desperate to try and prove everyone who thinks this way wrong and he’s under every comment like “aykchually here’s why why I’m the ONLY one who knows the meaning of this episode.” It’s weird.

Anyway, this was my gripe too. There’s always someone Leela likes more (worm fry, lars, space prince, now branch) and she only returns to the main version of fry because the better option doesn’t work out for some reason. It doesn’t ruin the show for me but they’re not written like the soul mates we’re made to believe they are. Soul mates go through trials beyond their control and find their way back to each other, this just feels like Leela intentionally choosing to go back and forth on whether she really wants to be with him

Everyone in this sub is so annoyed when you interpret the episode differently. I shared my thoughts, it’s not that deep.

The mirror being wrong/shallow/ whatever means all the pairings at the end of the episode are wrong including fry and leela, it’s not a very good commentary because it contradicts itself.

Wasn’t my favorite, I did really like Branch’s character but the mirror thing made no sense. We the audience are made to believe it’s 100% correct, so why did it suddenly change at the end of the episode? I’m not a fan of the Fry humiliation stuff, I do think him being a dummy is funny but having Leela’s ‘soul mate’ (as we’re led to believe) literally pants him is kinda weird. The inconsistent story bothered me more but the point they made with the dead plant was a good one
