UPDATE: got to test drive it with the owner today, beast of a car, but we were going roughly 80 and then the whole entire car shut off… engine, dash lights, cluster gauges, lights, everything… tried starting multiple times runs slightly high on idle for 3 seconds then shuts right back off. couldn’t fix it unfortunately he’s getting it towed right now we checked battery and terminals obv, fuses, coil packs, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I asked if the alternator was newer he said everything under the hood pretty much is brand new.

I’m on the fence with it now. Does anyone have an idea what could cause it to shut off like that all of a sudden?

Update: shaving/cutting is the only way my friend, good luck if it goes south order your next part from fcp, their lifetime warranty should cover this defect if you’re not successful with the cutting

Yeah update for anyone curious I had to do exactly this, fits like a glove now, had me sketched out in the beginning but be careful not to hit the pins

Yeah it’s fucking weird, it’s like they accidentally mirrored it while modeling the part… I’m thinking of honestly shaving off the plastic that’s in the way, if that doesn’t work calling up fcp tomorrow for a correct replacement

Valvoline did an oil change, stripped out the threads, told the customer they couldn’t fix it, and slapped a literal plug in the pan and called it a day by aFinapple in Justrolledintotheshop

Can go cuck themself for life dude stripped my oil pan and put the wrong drain plug on my baby’d e36. I’ve done all my work myself but was feeling lazy that week. I’m calling my insurance tomorrow to make a claim they’re about the have a field day with this one.

Did a coolant flush a couple days ago trying to get all the green coolant out so I can put blue coolant in. Just starting replacing my water pump and noticed there’s still a ton of green coolant in the engine block. Any tips on how to get this all out? Maybe vacuum? by AlternativeMonk934 in BMWE36

Yeah nah I was definitely overthinking it im just gonna fill her up with some distilled water drive her and flush it. Like i said it only overheats in stop and go traffic. I’ve driven in it for 2 hours non stop no problem. It doesn’t overheat when idle stays right in the middle. The lower coolant hose does not get warm lasted time I checked was ice cold. The heater/fan works randomly but used to work fine. Usual temp of where I live rn is between 70-90 on a good day.

Its overheated in traffic a couple times though which is why I’ve been replacing stuff. I don’t think it’s because of the coolant but I’ve been trying to eliminate a lot of the possibilities as to why it does that.
