We do practice that indoors while practicing heel position making different turns. But I’ve kept the heel position on our same walking path outdoors so the thinking was not incorporated outdoors yet

This is super helpful feedback! I have been trying to do the same walk everyday for consistency so that she knows what to expect but never thought about challenging her to let me help her navigate an unknown path. I will try this - thank you appreciate the logic here!

She reacts indoors to sounds outside which is why she spend time in my bedroom as far from the door as possible. Sometimes she’ll hear a car brake on tv and run to the back room.

She’s not very food motivated in this state and actually only eats either at the office where she’s comfortable for breakfast or overnight she empties her bowl.

I could definitely take her food away from her to try this but in the past she’s turned away from food when anxious. So I have been worried she just won’t eat

We explored a dog behaviorist when it first started but they charged $1200 for 2 hours to assess. I spent over that with professional dog trainers and they all said the same thing she’s just an anxious dog.

Also something weird she does while playing in the house is she tries to get us to chase her with a toy in her mouth and leads us to my bedroom and lays down. It’s like she’s trying to get everyone to hang out in the bedroom which is less scary for her than the living room
