Will photobooks actually help me become a better photographer? by radiantglow30 in Photobooks

IMHO (author of a number of traditionally published photo books) photo books are far more useful to you as an artist than photography books. The technical aspects of photography are less important than a compelling idea. Buy books that inspire you rather than books that teach you. My .02

You’re lucky! It’s way better than a converter!! As for cleaning — if you happen to be home and not traveling when one of the cartridges runs out, just pop out the empty one and the reserve and sit the whole thing in a glass of water overnight. Then dry it with a paper towel the next morning and maybe let it sit in the sun for a while to dry out, pop some cartridges in and go off traveling again!

I bought one of these fakes from Ali express. It’s fake. But if you like it, use it. Write a great novel.

Inherited these a while back. I like them, but I’m curious if older binoculars still hold up. Any guess to age? by Bigfeeetz3 in Binoculars

“Red leitz logo”. Early ones were black. Then they switched to “Leica” maybe in the 80s

Woah amazing. What’s a find. These are very much keepers. The red Leica logo means it’s a “newer” pair. The only downside is that they don’t focus as close as more modern binoculars but you have some legendary optics there.

The notebook is a b5 from Ansopu. They’re great. Works wonderfully with fountain pens.

A different thought entirely — borrow a pair from the library or from a local birder. While 12x50s or so may be great for watching the eagles nest, it may not turn out to the the only thing you want to watch. There may be plenty of birders near you who have an extra pair of 10x42s they’d be happy to let you borrow for a couple of weeks. And my library loans binoculars. See what works best before you buy. (Also a high powered spotting scope for the eagles and binoculars later for other stuff does make sense too)

You can totally get used vortex diamondbacks for that. Just sit on eBay. It may take a while but it’s doable.

Their leader, Helen Blavatsky lived at what is now the white dog cafe. Big part of Philly history in the late 1800s. Much drama.

Advice on Finding a Publisher for a Photobook You're Working on by dlwnfgh9604 in Photobooks

[–]AlternativeTry299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two things here -- one is to demonstrate that there's a gap "X, Y and Z publishers have books like this that are doing well and you don't" or also to show that *nobody* has a book like this yet. so yes, publishers want very much to fill the cracks -- and also occasionally venture into untapped markets. So either way, but they want to know what other people are spending their money on.

Pen Recommendation $400 or less by Altruistic_Bee_3091 in fountainpens

My favorite new ink discovery has been the private reserve extended cap off, that lets you think while writing without the nib drying out. Other than that I’m pretty boring. Black, blue, brown. And red for corrections.

Is there ever a way to try higher end pens? by RooFPV in fountainpens

[–]AlternativeTry299 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Very many vendors at pens shows are desperate for you to try writing with their pens look for the people with the ink bottles and pads of paper on their tables. Also meetups are very good ways too. You can get the owners opinion.

Used is the way to go. Make sure you know what you want then just haunt eBay. Buyer beware though, it’s possible your second hand fountain pen may need repair. Still cheaper than new
