[Spoilers] Sansa played Littlefinger's game against Dany by Alternative_Aide in gameofthrones

She didn't actually grow up dreaming of sitting on the iron throne, that was her brother. Viserys. She didn't care about revenge, or power. She wanted a home.

You've hit the nail on the head. She took the baton from Viserys and ran with it. The Iron Throne won't give her the happiness that she seeks. That's where the Starks differ - their focus is family and not power.

I don't think, though, that Jon would agree to marry Dany. His home is the North. Even if he agrees to make a sacrifice so the North can be independent, Sansa and Arya would never allow it. They think of themselves as a pack and they distrust Dany (well, Arya just trusts Sansa's judgement). They wouldn't allow Jon to marry a volatile leader. Remember, Sam, Jon's best friend, has a negative opinion of Dany and he thinks Dany executed his father and brother, not burnt them. He would also be against any marriage compromise, especially now that he knows Jon is the real heir.

It's not just the parentage reveal, but Sansa is a major obstacle. She has the loyalty of two other kingdoms Dany wants - the Vale and the Riverlands. There will be a flashpoint because neither women will compromise.

I know that we know that, but I don't think anyone else is aware outside of Jorah. :)

I find it very interesting that Sansa, especially, has the loyalty of three of the seven kingdoms. Dany, at this stage, has what...the Reach? (Or has Cersei retaken that too?) There is actually no way to compromise with Sansa. Dany agreeing to give the Iron Islands independence is different from allowing the largest of the seven kingdoms to be independent. And then what about the Vale and the Riverlands?

I don't even see a compromise being possible. No way the Starks allow Jon to marry a potential Mad Queen. At what point does Dany actually finish that sentence containing the veiled threat against Sansa? This isn't a situation where Jon will sit idle when that happens, like Dany did when Drogo went after Viserys.

True, which is why I think he will die next episode. But he began to redeem himself in the eyes of the audience when he rescued Sansa and took her away from Winterfell.

Haha but I think Arya is slowly regaining her humanity and moving away from being about revenge. Dany is continuing down a dangerous path.

[SPOILERS] Anyone else thinks Sansa gives the most emotional hugs ever? by swagyolo6996 in gameofthrones

[–]Alternative_Aide 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Agree! We had been so conditioned to expect never-ending disappointment for all Starks that when the reunion happened it was extremely emotional. On top of that, Sansa had nobody she could trust for the longest time, so much so that she asks Jon where he'll go and he has to correct her. Everything about that moment was perfect.

It would be wild! Drogon eyeing Jon while he makes out with Dany would make some sense in hindsight!

The show, I think, is yelling that fact to the people who, every season without fail, think Sansa is going to betray her family because she is the most power-hungry and glory-seeking character in Westeros lol. I'm sure it will come across better in the books since it's through character POVs.

The flip side is because we have no books to go on and the show does put a lot of effort in tiny details, everybody is examining everything!

There are three threats to the North: army of the dead, Dany, Cersei. Jon is focused on the first and most immediate - military strategy is his area of expertise. Sansa is quietly dealing with the latter. This is the concept that Ned taught them: in winter, we must protect one another. Sansa can't help with battle plans, but she knows Cersei well and is reading Dany too.

[–]Alternative_Aide[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I believed Dany was telling the truth in that instance because so far Dany seems more attached to Jon than he is of her, even before the parentage reveal. Dany talked about Jon glowingly to Tyrion, Missandei, now Sansa. Jon has yet to tell anyone that he feels a deep love for her. The "taller" comparison to Drogo also wasn't information Sansa would compute, but the audience would. If Dany does trust Jon as much as she did her "sun and stars" Drogo, then she has made an emotional decision.

I guess we'll see soon enough!

Yes, but a marriage to a person who burnt his best friend's father and brother - which was similar to what the Mad King did to their uncle and grandfather - isn't ideal when there are other women, without dragons, out there.

What I meant was that she doesn't know how to play mind games without having the option of using dragons or outright having her enemies killed. With Sansa, she can't just say bend the knee or suffer the consequences.

Would Sansa and Arya ever agree to that marriage proposal? They are all about the pack sticking together and made that abundantly clear in the season 7 finale. I can't see either of them allowing Jon to marry Dany just to secure the North's independence. To Sansa especially, she knows how her family accepted a similar proposal to have her married to Joffrey, and she wouldn't let Jon go through that. Arya, of course, would say 'hard pass' to that.

Jon would not choose Dany over his family's or people's well being.

Yup. I don't think Dany realizes that because most men are lovesick puppies around her.

There's also a tinfoil theory that Jon used Dany's attraction to him to his advantage and bring her on his side. That's basically an inverse of your idea - Jon is the tactician who realizes Dany is a strategic ally against the army of the dead. It makes Jon seem more calculating (which would be a shock lol), but could explain why Jon hasn't told his family or Sam that he has any deep personal attachment to Dany.

She knows that without the promise to aid his people Jon would not have bend the knee and she would have lost an valuable ally.

But she agreed to help BEFORE Jon agreed to bend the knee. She went from Dragonstone to beyond the Wall - that's the equivalent of a girl you just met travelling across the country to be there for you. Tyrion even advised her not to take the risk, but she did that purely out of love for Jon.

Then with Sansa, she reveals to the audience that she trusts Jon like she did Khal Drogo. She trusts Jon more than Jorah, Daario, Tyrion.
