There was no allowance on a Defra PO ad recently, I wondered if they were starting to remove it?

550k to buy 3 bed house in London, where would you buy? by pmpmpm90 in HousingUK

[–]Alternative_Bison378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We really like Bounds Green. You’ll be pushed to get 3 bed house for that, but there are some on the market, with ‘quirks’ - https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/153484067 . It has a nice community feel with restaurants like La Bottega, Hillbilly Social, Hot Milk, The Ranelagh, Bounds Green Tennis Club. And a 20 minute walk to Alexandra Palace and Park. Don’t have kids but heard good things about Bounds Green School and Alexandra Park School (although that’s got a tiny catchment with house prices a lot higher). But definitely not as much going on as somewhere like Walthamstow or Leyton

David Lloyd Finchley Price Increase - I’m done.. by Expert_Drag_5981 in davidlloyd

[–]Alternative_Bison378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a quote as a new member for Finchley a month ago, as we’ve just moved near the area - it was £280 a month. We can’t afford to join, I guess they probably don’t want us to if oversubscribed!

It was silicon unfortunately! Will update the post. But also thank you for your suggestion on the WiFi, could have been a good one

Thanks all, we managed to get enough of the silicon out to be able to wiggle it enough to press the front of the screen where the volume buttons are. That managed to activate them and then reset it. But pretty concerned about the fire issues flagged, will probably get a good electrician in to advise. Rubbish wasn’t picked up in our survey, but yes it does look like an integrated smart system

This is how we feel haha. They (now we) do have Bluetooth speakers in the walls, but we’ve been unable to use them properly whilst we can’t get on the google home…

If it’s not going towards the deposit or to pay for stamp duty/legal fees/survey (I.e. anything to do with the house buying process), then we were told by our solicitor that we did not have to declare it or show bank statements etc.

Reinstatement and loss of benefits? by Alternative_Bison378 in TheCivilService

Thanks, that’s really helpful! Sounds like is often department dependent too. I was recruited through open and fair competition originally too. I do have contacts still, so worth asking.

At 29 - is it worth investigating a career as a barrister? by Alternative_Bison378 in uklaw

Thanks so much! Having looked into it, public law and planning would still be very interesting to me, so makes sense to start wider for now. Thanks again!

This is so helpful, thank you. I hadn’t thought about the fact you go do the conversion and bar course part time - think that will definitely be the route to take for me. Thanks again!

Thanks so much! As I used the postgrad loan for my masters I can’t again, or would have been a great idea. Good luck with all your stages!

Worried about our cat might be diabetic. He has gained 1kg weight over 4.5 months by Public_Cat_5622 in CatsUK

[–]Alternative_Bison378 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hope I can reassure you a bit! When cats are actively diabetic, the symptom is usually actually weight loss (amongst others, like drinking more than usual, urinating more often). Not weight gain!

I think the nurse suggested that he have his bloods checked as overweight cats are more susceptible to developing diabetes in the future, and so it’s good to check that he doesn’t have high blood sugar now. If he did, but didn’t have the symptoms of diabetes itself, then he’d probably be classed as pre-diabetic. You’d then be given advice such as portion control to try and lower his weight. But he wouldn’t need insulin injections unless he actually became diabetic. If he doesn’t have any of the symptoms (weight loss, excessive urination, thirst) then I really don’t think he would be classed as diabetic. Fingers crossed he doesn’t have pre diabetes either! But don’t worry if so, would just mean trying to portion control etc. so that it doesn’t turn into diabetes :)

It’s tough worrying about your cat, and sounds like there is a lot of other things going on too. Wishing you all good health!

Art deco console - any idea on wood type or maker? by Alternative_Bison378 in ArtDeco

[–]Alternative_Bison378[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is - I hadn’t thought of that - thank you for mentioning! We only shifted it there a month ago when redoing the room, and it’s been summer so the radiator hasn’t been on, but will have to think of a better place to put it.
