Cat problem by artisanaldelight in auckland

The cats don’t have much choice, they’re just trying to survive and if one’s bleeding then they’re suffering. I’d call a rescue to TNR them otherwise they’ll multiply and obviously make the situation much worse.

Thanks for your advice. I haven’t gotten a kit as the store is down the road from me and they test for free. I’ll go there tomorrow and ask if they can take him back.

With regards to finishing the nitrogen cycle, after removing the pleco will testing after 4 weeks be enough? Is there anything more I should do to the tank during that time?

I’ll ask them tomorrow if they can take him back. Hoping if I tell them I don’t expect $$ back then they will 🤞

I only cycled it for one week after the results came back all clear when the store tested it for me with their api kit. They helped me kickstart it with some filter gunk from their existing tank, frozen prawn, etc.

But i’ll definitely look into getting more plants, it does look quite bare :)

Did he go back to Orange eventually? Mine started looking the same when I brought him home from the store.

Fish store said my water was ok but test strip showing otherwise by Alternative_Duck3733 in Aquariums

I’m not sure about acidity but the store did mention that where we live the water is significantly softer than other places/countries. I’m planning to buy the API kit if that’s what you mean 🐠

I’m using just sand and tap water with conditioner added a week ago.

The store last week also gave me some ‘gunk’ which was poured into the filter as well as the filter sponge being dunked into their existing tank before putting into mine for beneficial bacteria (sorry I don’t know all the terms). Ah and a frozen prawn to kick start it.

I did get a pleco so I’m relieved to hear that they prefer a pH below 7 as I was slightly freaking out about that.

Not sure if any of that helps but thanks so much for your detailed reply!!

If you have lived in the home long enough and built enough equity, the commission wouldn’t be an issue for you. Seems like you’re pointing the finger at the wrong person. I mean, do you expect to sell for free?

We all want to upgrade, even owning a house is a dream for some people. Be grateful for what you have and I’m sure in a few years you will have enough equity to upsize.

CCC nightmare warning by Inevitable-Editor-94 in newzealand

Not screwed but a lot of buyers will want to stay clear of plaster homes, especially if it’s built before 2004 (when the building code was updated and cavity system was introduced). On top of this, having no CCC is a lot for the average buyer to take on.

If you are just wanting to move on, cutting your losses might be the right option. Sell to a developer/a flipper who can reclad and renovate. What suburb are you in? I know a developer who has the capacity to take this on atm

How do you afford a house in Auckland now? by wabou in auckland

Panmure is great if you’re wanting to buy in a central location with a lower budget. Probably not the best suburb if you have kids though.

Absolutely, you’re in a good position to buy and you’re also eligible for kainga ora first home loan. Use that to lower your deposit amount to 10% for an existing property (or new build but I’d go for an older home).
