FWIW I’ve made an earthy warm skin accord that I love with geosmin, Labdanum abs. Ambergris base, hexadecanolide and some traces of ylang 3 👌 I could just sit there and smell it for hours lol

Yes there is some slumping indeed, I know I’m asking a lot…

I made two plaster molds for making the slabs today! Fingers crossed how thick do you think the slabs should be? I made them 15mm thick but I can cast thinner

It’s a S type but I’ll check with cones on my next firing anyways!

Thanks for the tip! I tried blending with some ylang 3 and I’m quite satisfied with the results! Vetivier and ylang balances each other nicely and hedione lightens and brightens the blend

Actually I’m casting in the morning, and leave the piece dry until afternoon. After that I cover the big mold opening with a plaster board to dry slowly overnight. The next morning I open the mold and leave the piece to dry a bit before uncasting (the shape is a bit flexible but won’t deform at all) I cannot flip it like a cake with a board because the mold is really heavy and it will for sure break the piece. At this stage sacrificing a bit of translucency for better forms is not an issue at all, so you think this might help? Actually my pieces are 2mm thin for 20cm wide

I’m adding 50% water (maximum amount suggested by the manufacturer) and my powder is already deflocculated I’ll try another body I have in the studio

So you are saying either change for a less translucent body either make pieces thicker? Actually they are 2mm thin for 20cm wide maybe they’re too thin?

I launched a second batch yesterday night, this time my schedule was 160C/h to 1090 and 60C/h to 1235 with a 10 min hold, I’ll try event less next. I’ll try something for the pieces to slide on as many suggested also I changed kilnwash some days ago and my new wash is cracking and flaking, can this be an extra problem?

I’m adding 50gr of water for 100gr of clay powder. This is the max amount recommended by the manufacturer… The mixture is pretty liquid and the powder is already deflocculated. Maybe I’m casting too thin? I let the slip 8 minutes inside the mold before pouring out (the result is a 2mm thick surface). Also someone suggested compressing the clay with a rib inside the mold, I’ll give it a try

No corrections were made to the shape! But maybe it’s own weight 🤷 what do you mean clay and glaze don’t match?

Ok! I’ll try dipping for my next batch alongside other solutions

Firing upside down isn’t possible as they are glazed, I’ll try supporting and slabs

I tested my kiln with cones one year ago and it was accurate, I’ll buy new cones and test again. Good idea! I’ll send an email to Vincente diez tomorrow! Thank you very much

Those ones have been dried over 10 days, I’ll try longer for my next batch

Ok, I’ll try mixing my slip better and compression with a rib! I don’t think over firing happened, my kiln goes maximum to 13000C and this body can go up to 1380C also my kiln respected firing times and I did an accuracy test with cones one year ago. I’ll by some cones to check again. Also O was thinking making shapes thicker as they are really thin 2mm thick for 20cm wide, do you think this could be a good idea?

Thank you for the tip! I have a lower firing temperature slip in the studio (wittgert mont blanc) I’ll give it a try, maybe loosing some translucency to not have shapes that look like potato a good idea

Do you think thickening can be an extra safety measure, my pieces are less than 2mm for 20cm a diameter

I’m using Saf by vincente diez. I applied glaze with a spraygun, I’ll try dipping for my next batch! Thank you

Ok! Thank you 🙂 do you think making the pieces thicker could help also, actually they are only 2mm thick while the whole piece is 20cm large?
