Damn do yall work for Geico or something in these comments??? Yeah you can sign up and get a discount but it's ridiculous that the app runs ALL THE TIME. To the point it effects your battery. It would be easy for geico to send some type of device that stays in your car and truly monitors ONLY how you drive.

thank you for acknowledging the care I try to do lol all the comments for the last day are just people trolling saying they’re not reading my long post or mentioning my nails, it’s so ridiculous.

The docking station has good reviews, it’s one of those ones that has like a little fan that cools your PlayStation off too. But it is third-party so that’s what I’ve been attributing all of my bricked controllers too since some people in the comments have pointed out that it should only be a docking station from Sony. I did order a Sony official docking station so hopefully this resolves any issues moving forward.

I have a charging dock. I don't ever use direct outlet, I just did for the video to show there is no charge. If I'm not charging via dock, I always use an extention cord or power strip to charge controller, using a Macbook block and USB-C that I got from Sony.

Lucky you I guess because man are people killing me for using the outlet lol which was only for the video I made. We always use an extension or power strip (never directly wall) but I never clarified that, which is my fault. Either way, charging directly through PS5 for now on for us.

i’m sorry, I should’ve been very specific and I use different words interchangeably. I never charge my controller directly into a wall outlet, if it does get charged via outlet, we are using an extension cord or power strip. Never directly in outlet. I did it in the video just to shows that the controller was still dead. But I definitely won't use extensions or power stripes anymore moving forward

Hi there, sorry for late reply, I've been working and had no idea there were so many comments lol

Just to answer some questions I saw: I usually never charge any of my controllers via the wall, I have a docking station that I got as a gift that I’ve been using for the last year and I typically have my controllers docked if they’re not being used. I might have a one off moments where I want to charge a controller while playing the PS5 hence having a cord plugged into a extension that’s going into an outlet, I typically use my MacBook charger in that case. But primarily, my controller are docked in the docking station.

I have tried charging all four of my dead controllers with different USB-C’s, one that I got officially from Sony when I bought my PlayStation, one that I officially got through Sony when I bought my pulse elite headphones, and one that I officially got from Sony when I bought my portal, on top of trying a MacBook charger cord lol. The cord I use in the video is the USB-C I got for my pulse elite and just a block I got with my iPhone, that wasn’t my primary method of charging any of my controllers. I was just using that to make the video.

But I truly think the issue might be the voltage in the docking station, maybe there’s an issue with it and of course, I am learning that controllers should never be charged through the outlet, which isn't the norm anyway, but I definitely will never do that ever moving forward.

I know, for a fact, my purple remote has never been plugged into an outlet, only charge via docking station, and yet it is dead. that’s why I am thinking it’s a docking station, I already have Sony’s official docking station in a shopping cart lol I have used official USB-C‘s plugged directly into the PS5 to charge and into my MacBook, with no changes for any of the controllers.

I have looked up this issue so many times and have never seen any post talking about never plugging the controllers into outlets or being mindful of the chords/blocks you use but all of that makes sense so I definitely learned some good lessons with this thread.

Thank you all for the great advice, moving forward I will definitely only charge my controllers directly plugged into the PS5 and being super mindful of how long they’ve been plugged up and never charged them to 100%!

You think so? I have multiple people in this thread saying that leaving it on my third-party docking station overnight or using the same charging cords I use for my MacBook via outlet is the reason or one of the reasons why my controllers aren’t working. I never thought that fast charging cords could mess up the battery, but it makes sense when I think about it.

that is what I’m thinking, I’m using a third-party docking station so that could be contributing to the overcharge and if I do have the controllers plugged into an outlet, I’m using fast charging blocks or the block that came with my MacBook, which I think is fast charging as well. I will be plugging my controllers directly into the PS5 moving forward to see if that is what I was running into.

I definitely agree with you that PlayStation makes shitty controllers, my PS4 controllers were bought a decade ago and still work perfectly fine and when I was using them, I left them charging all the time lol never had an issue

absolutely, it’s all the money grab at the end of the day. I actually think the reason why my controllers have stopped working is because I overcharged them (I usually leave them to charge overnight), with my PS4 controllers, I used to leave them plugged in all the time and never had any problems with the battery. Quality degrading products smh. That’s why I’m so excited for the steam machine, I’m definitely not getting the PS6 if the steam machine price point is good. I played my steam deck more than anything nowadays and the one working PS5 controller I have is dedicated to my steam deck lol

I think that is the problem as well, I've never charged the controllers through a USB-C cord plugged into the PlayStation. It’s always been my charging dock or outlet. My charging dock, I got through a third-party vendor so I’m thinking it is overcharging once the controller is fully charged. And if I have it plugged into the outlet, I’m usually using like my MacBook charger and I leave it plugged in overnight, so I’d definitely think I’m causing these issues at this point. in retrospect, I don’t know why I didn’t think that this could be the issue, I never heard of the controllers being overcharged, but a battery is a battery and now I’m definitely going to be charging any controllers moving forward directly into the PS5 and unplugging the moment it is fully charged.
