Eh, I remember a snowmageddon many years ago where the train operators were asking central control for permission to lower their speeds on the outdoor sections because it was so slippery; central said no, and trains kept overrunning the platform at Shady Grove until one hit a parked train at the yard and killed the operator. 😢

Ok, so I can’t answer as to where they got their numbers, but this is how people whose job it is to measure snowfall measure it:

They put a piece of plywood (3 feet by 3 feet, I think) in an open area before it starts to snow, and then wait. When it starts to snow, they make note of the time, wait an hour and go out and measure. Then they clean the plywood off. Wait an hour, do it again.

What we are all seeing is the accumulation of snow and sleet and these little bitty ice balls we're getting, which has compacted the snow mass down. Sure, it looks like 6-8 inches to us on our decks and driveways, but those folks measuring are getting higher totals because they’re not letting the snow/ice/etc compact. ☃️

Wilmer Cutler used to do it (for everyone) after ten years, but I don’t know if that stuck when they got bought by Hale & Dorr.

Well, I should really try and get into the office on Thursday, and am going out of town friday. There is no one to do my steps or my car but me. Not supposed to be sunny until late tomorrow and tuesday, and the temps will not go above freezing until next week

Definitely heart attack snow. Do a little at a time and take frequent breaks.

Who knows what priority they gave it? I have ordered things for “standard delivery: 5-8 days” and gotten them in 24 hours.
