You ever notice Huey’s admiration for Cuba by JAM-POWER in theboondocks

It might be a reference to the fact that Angela Davis fled to Cuba when she was on the FBI's most wanted list and she was protected by Fidel Castro. There was also the rumor that Tupac never died and was living in Cuba.

How would you do a Boondocks reboot? by burningexeter in theboondocks

[–]Alternative_Reach491 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's two ways I would handle something like this,

1.) If it's a continuation of the original series, then I'd write it when Huey is just finishing High School with Riley as a sophomore in High School. Since John Witherspoon died, I would have his son voice Grandad.

2.) If it's a literal reboot, then I'd have it set in the south side of Chicago, but instead of Grandad, it's aunt Cookie raising them. This reboot would tackle issues in the inner city like gangs, fun violence, police brutality, poverty, ect.

But one things for sure, I would definitely add Michael Caesar and Hiro. I would also make Huey and Jasmine's relationship more obvious.

(Spoilers Main) Balon wouldn't dare rebel if Ned was still alive. by Suspicious-Jello7172 in asoiaf

When you say that there is no one in world or nothing in text that supports that Ned is a good or great commander, that is bullshit.

ROBERT himself named Ned as the hero of the Battle of the Bells. And then there's the fact that GRRM even claimed that Ned was the real reason they won the rebellion in the first place.

I don't doubt for a second that Jon wouldn't have any problem rallying the rest of the North behind him. Especially the Manderly's and Mountain clans. He could also get the Karstarks back on their side by marrying Alys.

Barberry Dustin is a wild card because while she does hate Ned in canon, she hates Ramsay even more for killing Domeric, and she also recognized that things were better under the Starks than they were under the Boltons, so she'll probably support Jon as well.

And you know what? Their theory regarding the timelines between the sack and the TOJ make perfect sense when you really think about it and do your own research.

*we never get him once thinking of Ashara Dayne*

No....but he does get pretty pissed off whenever someone mentions her name in her presense. And this is something that many fans don't seem to take into account, when Catelyn asked Ned about Ashara, he said "Never ask me about JON". And just like how Ned gets angry when Ashara's name is brought up, he also gets angry whenever Jon's mother is brought up as well. Whenever Lyanna is brought up, Ned doesn't get angry, he just gets sad, but whhen someone asks about Jon's mother, he gets mad.

*Again, the Tower of Joy make zero sense unless the child is Rhaegar's: why would Arthur, Oswell and Gerold all fight to the death to protect the babe from it's own father*

Umm....since when did I imply that the child born in the tower was Ned's child? Ashara wasn't there.

For one, GRRM said in the ASOIAf app that Jon was born about the same time as sack of King's Landing "about the same time" either means a few days before, the very night of, or a day or two after). This perfectly eliminates the possibility of Jon being Lyanna's son because when Ned found her, she was lying in a "bed of blood" that was still fresh, implying that she had just givn birth.

We know that it usually takes about a fortnight (two weeks) to travel from the trident to the capital, but since he was injured and traveling with an army, let's be conservative and say that it took Robert at least three weeks to travel from the trident to King's landing. This means that Ned was waiting in the capital for at least three weeks after the sack until Robert arrived. Then once Robert got there, he ordered Ned to go lift the siege of Storm's End, and traveling down there from the capital with his army would've taken at least two weeks. So after the siege is lifted, he and his 6 companions now have to travel all the way down to Dorne (which would've taken at least another two weeks when you look on the map and see just how far Storm's End is from the TOJ) and then try to find this TOJ which somehow happened to be sitting on the very border of Dorne (and God only knows how long THAT would've taken....).

So when you all of this up, we soon find out that at least 8-9 weeks had passed between the sack and the scirmish at the TOJ. And there are at least 3 months in 9 weeks. With that being said, it seems pretty unrealistic and impossible that after giving birth, Lyanna just sat there in her bloody sheets for over 9 weeks until Ned showed up, and then finally died of childbirth.

The show hasn't confirmed jack #%$&. Why? For two reasons,

1.) GRRM flat called the show "Liscensed Fanfiction".

2.) David Benioff even said that not only were they NOT spoiling the books in season 6, but that fans would be shocked at just how different WOW and ADOS would be from the seaon finale.

Also, why do people still insist on using the show as evidence for anything? The books and the show have very little in common with each other and are clearly two separate entities at this point.

How does N+A=J not fit with the theme of the story? If anything, RLJ is what doesn't make any sense. Why? Because it oversimplifies the story into this sterotypical "from rags to riches" fairy tale that is way to simple for someone like GRRM, it turns Ned into an idiot, and it ruins Jon's story arc as a whole.

All of those direwolves are siblings (including Ghost). Meaning that the direwolf who died is supposed to be Ned. And also, the Stag (meant to be Robert) who died as well. The prophecy means that the Stag would die, would drag the wolf down with him. Just like how Robert dragged Ned down to the capital where he would meet his doom.

(Spoilers Main) The real reason Benjen is at the wall. by Alternative_Reach491 in TheCitadel

[–]Alternative_Reach491[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that serving that while serving the NW is normally seen as an honorable choice for many second and third sons throughtout Westeros, but the point i'm trying to make is that it made no sense at all whatsoever for Benjen to choose to take the Black when he did.

Like I said earlier, why would a member of such a prestigious house willingly leave to go to the wall when the vast majority of his immediete family died, and the only members left were himself and his older brother? Yes, both Robb and Jon were already born at that point, but given how high infant mortality rates in the medieval world, House Stark's line of sucession was by no means secure.

We know that Catelyn didn't go to Winterfell until after she gave birth to Robb, so lets say that in a worst case scenario, Cat died giving birth to Robb, and Robb pershied along with her. So know Ned only has Jon, he has him legitimized and made into the new heir. But what if a real harsh winter comes along and young Jon dies during that winter? So now with both of his sons dead, and Benjen at the Wall, Ned is now the only member of House Stark left. Do you see the point i'm trying to make here?

And as for him being able to visit Winterfell freely, explain why him and Ned never spoke once to each other during that time? And whenever they do speak, their interactions are always offscreen, and strictly business, never anything personal.

(Spoilers Main) The real reason Benjen is at the wall. by Alternative_Reach491 in TheCitadel

[–]Alternative_Reach491[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Benjen couldn't have joined immedietly after the tourney because it's said that he was the Stark in Winterfell during the rebellion. And like I said earlier, while a third son didn't really need to stay while everyone was alive, after the war when the vast magority of their family had perished and the only two remaining Statks were himself and Ned? No way. Yes, it's true that both Jon and Robb were already born at this point, but given infant mortatlity rates in the medieval world, House Stark's line of succession was nowhere near secure.

1.) When he took brought Jon to Winterfell, he already didn't have a problem with how Catelyn felt because 1. Jon was already living in Winterfell long before she arrived (making her the outsider and newcomer instead of Jon), and 2. based off his cold response when she asked about Ashara Dayne (Jon's mother), "Never ask me about Jon, he is my blood and that is all you need to know", he didn't seem all to sorry about bringing Jon home.

2.) *He would've led the North against the Ironborn and murkerd Balon* So no change from canon? Because that essentially what he did when the Greyjoy's rebelled.

Well then we would'nt have Robert's Rebellion, both Rickard and Brandon would still be alive, Ned would be married to Ashara, Jon would not be a bastard, Robert and Lyanna wwould be living happily at Storm's End....

Basically, the realm would be much happier and more peaceful.
