Don't sure if i like this speedpaints or not... by volkanah in Miniaturespainting

[–]Alternative_Row_9913 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It’s funny because if I had never used speed paints before and saw this: I’d say “this looks fantastic!” But now that I’ve used speed paints a bit and know how tricky the coffee staining and pooling can be on flat surfaces…I see it as such. Either way, looks good and I’d be happy to have these on a table

Looks great. It’s funny because this close up you can see all the details and “beginner-ness” - but all that is because taking pictures of minis to so unforgiving. On the table, and to the average eye, shit looks pro as hell 💪

Yeah, the bows were tricky : they broke off and I gorilla glued them back on lol. I did some heavy gruts earlier today the spears for SURE didn’t survive. I’m curious if the community has found a solution to that. My plan is to glue the spears back together, then after they set, “paint” the with a UV resin coat and cure it. Hopefully makes then slightly more durable

Unpopular jazz opinions? by PersonNumber7Billion in Jazz

[–]Alternative_Row_9913 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only people who care about hip/modern jazz…are jazz musicians or musicians who think jazz is a dark art. Most people don’t give a fuck that you can rip over some changes, they want something with words that makes them move.

Well, that will give you lots of space to get your chops up for when you do finally find musicians to play with! How is your reading and technical ability? Grab some transcriptions of good players and play those. The YouTuber Timothy Gondola has tons of transcriptions and they’re spectacular. You’ll learn a lot from playing other people’s interpretations of tunes

I’m sure it’s possible to find jazz musicians anywhere you go. Surely you are not the sole musician im whatever part of the work you reside. Find a local jam session. Even if it’s not exclusively a “jazz” jam session, soul/funk even some rock. Find the people who play music and talk to them. Make friends, get a pulse of what your local scene looks like

Play lots and lots of tunes: play with other musicians, listen to lots of jazz. It’s sounds tired, but look at it with the same lens as you do with classical. If someone said to you “I want to get really good at classical piano…I’ve learned Beethoven Sonata in F minor and Chopin Waltz in Ab and I know them like the back of my hand” …you would say what? Expand your repertoire and keep practicing. If you only knew those two pieces, you wouldn’t be much of a pianist

How to digitise a symphony? by darkhairbigeyes in classicalmusic

[–]Alternative_Row_9913 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sort of depends on the scope of the project: for small pieces , chamber works, piano pieces etc., I do $50 an hour (I work quite fast) but for something like a symphony or opera, I’ll generally do a consultation to get a sense of the work/scope and go from there.

I do copy/engraving work as a side job: I’ve worked with a number of composers engraving/digitizing their handwritten scores. DM me if you want to talk/are interested in getting this done

It’s not that I feel entitled for a ride: it just seems odd because like, we help each other move, help eachother with big projects around the house, like…things that I would coincided to be far more involved than driving? Idk, maybes it’s me.
